Institute of Medicine's (IOM) Committee on Gulf War and Health:
Updated Literature Review of Depleted Uranium will hold a public meeting from 1:00 to 2:30 PM on Thursday, March 22. This meeting will be held in Room 101 at the Keck Center of the National Academies, 500 Fifth St., NW (between E and F St.), Washington, D.C. Directions to the Keck Center can be found on the following website: http://www.nationalacademies.org/about/contact/nax.html.
This committee's task is to review, evaluate, and summarize scientific
and medical literature regarding the association between exposure to depleted uranium and chronic human health effects. The committee will focus on literature published since the IOM's 2000 report, Gulf War and Health, Volume 1: Depleted Uranium, Pyridostigmine Bromide, Sarin, and Vaccines was written. The committee will make determinations on the strength of the evidence for associations between exposure to depleted uranium and human health effects. The report might include recommendations for additional scientific studies to resolve areas of continued scientific uncertainty. The findings will not be limited to veterans of the 1991 Gulf War. They also will be applicable to veterans of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.
Additional information about the project can be found on the following
website: http://www8.nationalacademies.org/cp/projectview.aspx?key=48753.
If you are interested in presenting information to the committee, please
send your name and contact information to gulfwarandhealth@nas.edu. Please keep your remarks relevant to the committee's task (that is, health effects from exposure to depleted uranium).

meeting or send them via email (gulfwarandhealth@nas.edu), fax (202-334-2939), or mail (Abigail Mitchell, Keck Center of the National Academies, 500 Fifth St., NW, Washington, D.C., 20001).
