Presumptions of service-connection were expanded to include exposure first to herbicides used in Southeast Asia (the Vietnam era) and more recently to possible nerve agents and other toxins that were present in the Persian Gulf Conflict.

Presumption of service connection now includes vaccinations against certain biological war hazards in preparation for operations in the Persian Gulf. Presumption of service-connection of inoculations was added in 38 U.S.C. 1118.
