China Flies 38 Fighter Jets, 6 Navy Vessels Near Taiwan

More than 38 fighter jets and other warplanes from China’s military flew near Taiwan in the latest chapter of military escalation from the regime since it staged war games around the island earlier in April.

The Taiwanese defense ministry announced the incident on Friday in its daily update of Chinese military activities from the previous 24 hours.

Six Chinese navy vessels were also seen around Taiwan from Thursday 6 a.m. to Friday 6.a.m., the ministry added, in what appears to be part of the Chinese regime’s effort to intimidate Taiwan.

The latest flight display comes after the Chinese regime on April 8 sent 42 warplanes and eight naval vessels toward Taiwan as part of three days of military exercises that simulated sealing off the island.

Invading Chinese Ship Nearly Crashes into Philippine Patrol — ‘David and Goliath’ Encounter

A Philippine patrol vessel nearly collided with a Chinese coast guard ship near the Spratly Islands on Sunday, the latest in a series of incidents showing that the Philippines are standing up to Chinese territorial aggression.

The Sunday incident occurred while a literal boatload of international journalists was watching, having been invited on a tour of the Spratlys by the Philippine Coast Guard. Reporters watched as Chinese ships followed and harassed two Philippine ships over the course of six days, culminating in a Chinese ship violently maneuvering to block one of the much smaller Philippine vessels near Second Thomas Shoal.

China Expands Anti-Espionage Law Targeting Foreign Companies and Dissidents

The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) passed its newly revised anti-espionage law, which will come into effect on July 1 this year.

The revision has expanded the definition of espionage, making it broader and vaguer. Human rights observers believe that it is an escalation in the repression of the Chinese people and will be used to further target foreign individuals and companies in China.

The regime’s rubber-stamp legislature published the revised law on its website on April 26. It was the first modification from its November 2014 release.

The expansion of the law’s definition of espionage has attracted much attention from the outside world. For example, the scope of subjects of stealing secrets is expanded to “other documents, data, materials, and items related to national security and interests.”

The newly revised anti-espionage law also classifies selling out to espionage organizations and their agents as espionage, as well as “conducting cyberattacks against state organs, secret-related units, or key information infrastructure” as espionage.

The new revision also includes “establishing a management system for key anti-espionage and security units.”

North Korea Launches Space Program

North Korean state media on Thursday declared that “building the space industry is an indispensable project for national development and the improvement of people’s lives.”

Dictator Kim Jong-un boasted last week that his military now has the capability to put a spy satellite in orbit, but no such launch has taken place.

Drone Attack Suspected as Russian Oil Reservoir in Crimea Set on Fire

A massive fire erupted at an oil reservoir in Crimea after it was hit by a drone, a Russia-appointed official there reported Saturday.

Was It Really a Good Death? Or Murder?

Tens of thousands of people in the U.K. have allegedly been murdered via involuntary euthanasia in hospitals and care homes run by the U.K.’s National Health Service (NHS)

The involuntary euthanasia involves the administration of midazolam, a sedative drug often used in the U.S. for execution via lethal injection, and morphine

Victims’ families allege the NHS is responsible for the involuntary euthanasia of up to 457 people per day, without the consent of patients or their caregivers — deaths often attributed to COVID pneumonia

The process typically begins with a do-not-resuscitate (DNR) or do-not-attempt-resuscitation (DNAR) form, which is often recommended simply based on a person’s age

The protocol stems from the Liverpool Care Pathway for the Dying Patient (LCP), a government-backed “pathway to euthanasia,” during which patients were drugged and deprived of food, water and medical treatments, even in cases when recovery may have been possible

LCP was abolished in 2014, but its practices continued and accelerated during the COVID-19 pandemic

‘One Health’ — The Global Takeover of Everything

The World Health Organization is seeking to cement its control over global health through amendments to the international health regulations (IHR) and its pandemic treaty

The pandemic treaty will grant the WHO power over far more than pandemic responses. It emphasizes the “One Health” agenda, which combines human health, animal health and environmental concerns into one

Under the One Health agenda, the WHO would have power to make decisions relating to diet, agriculture and livestock farming, environmental pollution, movement of populations and much more

Private interests wield immense power over the WHO, and a majority of the funding is “specified,” meaning it’s earmarked for particular programs. The WHO cannot allocate those funds wherever they’re needed most. This too massively influences what the WHO does and how it does it. So, the WHO is an organization that does whatever its funders tell it to do

The globalist takeover hinges on the successful creation of a feedback loop of surveillance for virus variants, declaration of potential risk followed by lockdowns and restrictions, followed by mass vaccinating populations to “end” the pandemic restrictions, followed by more surveillance and so on. The funding for this scheme comes primarily from taxpayers, while the profits go to corporations and their investors

16 Species of Insects Approved for Human Consumption

While it’s not uncommon for insect parts to accidentally make it into processed food, Singapore has approved the sale of 16 insect species for human consumption. Insects that haven’t historically been eaten by humans will undergo approval through a different framework

The industry is unsure how consumers will accept eating whole insects, but proponents anticipate that campaigns to normalize the behavior will make it more acceptable; globalists cloak the idea in sustainability rhetoric and hope to elevate eating insects to “cool kids” status

Eating insects is justified by saying it may address an impending food crisis. This is the same justification used for reclaiming sewage water for drinking water and cannibalistic practices, such as culturing human cells for meat

The “green agenda” cherry-picks flawed ideas and presents them as fact, such as the idea that nitrogen fertilizer is a pollutant that can only be reined in by eliminating farming. Yet, regenerative solutions allow people to eat meat, fruits and vegetables while supporting the environment

DARPA is also on the insect bandwagon with the project “Insect Allies,” in which genetically modified insects edit mature plants in real time. This leads to questions about what happens to animals and humans bitten by those insects, wild insects that mate with infected insects affect the environment and natural life cycle, and the animals and humans who eat the plants and insects

EXCLUSIVE: 21K Venezuelan Migrants in 12 Days Crossed Border into One Texas Sector

A Texas Department of Public Safety official told Breitbart Texas that Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol agents took nearly 21,000 Venezuelan migrants into custody during a 12-day period. The spokesman compared the current Venezuelan migrant surge to that of the 2021 Haitian migrant crisis in Del Rio, Texas. During the 2021 crisis, nearly 20,000 Haitian migrants crossed into Del Rio from Mexico during a 17-day period.

DPS spokesman Lt. Chris Olivarez told Breitbart Texas that Rio Grande Valley agents working with DPS troopers and Texas Military Department soldiers took 20,865 migrants into custody during a 12-day period ending on Friday, April 27. Most of these Venezuelan migrants cross the Rio Grande from Mexico in the immediate vicinity of Brownsville, Texas. The current surge of Venezuelan migrants appears to have no end in sight.

Josh Hawley Calls on FBI to Launch ‘Full-Scale’ Probe into 85K Migrant Children Missing on Joe Biden’s Watch

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) is calling on the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to launch a “full-scale” investigation into the whereabouts of 85,000 migrant children who have been released into the United States under President Joe Biden but whom the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has lost all contact with.

Since Biden took office, HHS officials have lost contact with some 85,000 Unaccompanied Alien Children (UACs) released to adult sponsors after arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border. At the same time, Biden officials have reportedly ignored warnings that many UACs are ending up in a widespread labor trafficking pipeline as well as sex trafficking.

Texas shooting: Suspect accused of killing 5 neighbors after request to stop firing rifle

A Mexican national is suspected of killing five neighbors in southeast Texas after one of them asked him to stop shooting his rifle late Friday, saying that a baby was trying to sleep.

The suspect in the execution-style killings is Francisco Oropeza, 39, a Mexican national, according to San Jacinto County Sheriff Greg Capers.

Capers said during a Saturday afternoon press conference that Oropeza “could be anywhere now.” Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation Houston Field Office said that Oropeza should be considered “armed and dangerous” and is a “threat to the community.”

Exclusive: Mexican Migrant Wanted for Murder of Five Hondurans Deported 3 Times, Says Texas Sheriff

Immigration officers deported the Mexican man wanted in connection to Friday night’s alleged murder of five Honduran nationals on three occasions, according to the Texas sheriff leading the investigation. The most recent removal came in 2016.

San Jacinto County Sheriff Greg Capers told Breitbart Texas on Sunday that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers deported 38-year-old Francisco Oropeza, a Mexican national now wanted for five alleged murders, in three separate incidents. Sheriff Capers and other sources advised that the last time ICE officers removed Oropeza was in 2016.

Sean Hannity’s Ratings Plunge After Tucker Carlson’s Fox News Exit

Carlson’s finale a week ago drew 2.65 million viewers, according to Nielsen. The data shows that Brian Kilmeade’s substitute hosting gig for “Fox News Tonight” saw ratings of 2.59 million on Monday, 1.7 million on Tuesday, and 1.33 million on Wednesday, respectively. Last Wednesday, Carlson drew about 3 million viewers, Nielsen figures show.

But the 9 p.m. Fox News program hosted by Sean Hannity drew about 2.5 million on Monday, 2 million on Tuesday, and 1.7 million on Wednesday night, according to Nielsen. In comparison, Hannity drew about 2.6 million viewers the Wednesday a week before, the ratings show.

Laura Ingraham’s “The Ingraham Angle” drew 2.156 million on Wednesday, April 19. But this past Wednesday, two days after Carlson was confirmed gone, her show drew 1.55 million viewers.

Jesse Watters’ show also saw a decline. For Wednesday, it saw an audience of 1.558 million, but a week prior, it generated 2.1 million.

In response to the Nielsen ratings numbers, Fox News said in a statement to news outlets that Fox has been cable news’ most-watched network for 21 years, with its team “trusted more by viewers than any other news source.” When reached for comment, a Fox spokesperson also told The Epoch Times that “Fox News led cable news on Monday and Tuesday across total day and primetime with viewers and A25-54,” referring to the 25-54 age demographic coveted by advertisers.

“Gutfeld,” hosted by Greg Gutfeld, was the only Fox News primetime show that actually saw an increase. Last Wednesday, the program drew 1.8 million viewers, but this past Wednesday, it was watched by 2.02 million, according to the figures.

‘Resign to run’ fix, sweeping election bill heads to DeSantis’ desk

Florida Republican lawmakers have sent to Gov. Ron DeSantis‘ desk legislation that gives him the OK to run for president without resigning and makes sweeping changes to election law.

Two days after the Senate passed SB 7050, the House approved it along party lines Friday, with dissenting Democrats filing dozens of amendments aimed at blunting a bill they call crippling. Those amendments all failed.

The legislation “clarifies” that the state’s “resign to run” law doesn’t apply to those campaigning for president or vice president, a topic that had received much debate and attention as DeSantis nears the likely launch of a presidential campaign. It also makes changes to election law that Democrats and voting rights groups say are unnecessary, harmful and would restrict votes from communities of color, which skews Democratic.

Appeals Court Upholds Election Integrity Law in Florida

A federal appeals court on Thursday upheld a law that, among other modifications of election rules, added security measures on the use of drop boxes and put restrictions on voting by mail in the Sunshine State.

On Thursday, the Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit reversed a lower court’s ruling that struck down a law passed by Florida’s Republican-majority legislature in 2021, siding mostly with Florida’s GOP lawmakers in a legal battle that lasted for two years.

That law (pdf) amended Florida’s election administration rules when it added identification requirements for voting by mail (including name, address, and date of birth); added monitoring requirements for drop boxes by election administrators; limited the locations on the use of ballot drop boxes; added identification requirements for voter registration updates; added requirements for third-party voter registration organizations; prohibited use of private funds for election-related expenses.

IN-DEPTH: Losing Your Home Over a Missed $588 Property Tax Bill—In 12 States Government Can Seize Your Home and Keep All Proceeds

It was a dream come true—or rather about to come true—when the Halls bought their forever home. It had everything they needed and more: five bedrooms, four bathrooms, a family room, a dining room, a roomy garage, good schools, and a good neighborhood. Sure, a fixer-upper, but they felt up to it. Prentiss Hall, a home improvement contractor, made it his life project, and everybody lent a hand—his wife, Tawanda, and six children, cousins, and friends.

“We were really excited,” Tawanda told The Epoch Times.

They negotiated the price down to $67,000—a bargain, perhaps, but the home demanded a daunting amount of “tender love and care.”

Last month Marina Adair returned to Bradenton desperate to save her home.

The 1925 house, located in the Village of the Arts neighborhood Adair helped found, had once been the location for her art space, Marina’s Village Studios and Gallery, which spotlighted local artists. But Adair, 63, had planned to move in and spend the rest of her life there.

The artsy neighborhood is home to more than a dozen studios and shops that are also artists residences. In Bradenton, the community is known for its vibrantly painted homes and Art Walk events that attract thousands of visitors every month.

Adair’s retirement plan was put in jeopardy, however, after the city filed suit against her last August to foreclose on the house over unpaid code enforcement fines.

Bill defining biological sex in restrooms to become law in Kansas

Reverse Engineering the Propaganda Machine

We fight against a truly unprecedented disinformation campaign, where the liars are claiming that everyone else is giving out misinformation, basically turning truth on its head

While propaganda takes many forms, mainstream media play a crucial role. The good news is that people are starting to catch on, and trust in mainstream media has dropped to an all-time low

By the early 1900s — literally a century ago — journalists like Upton Sinclair and George Seldes were discussing the corruption of the media, how they were owned by big business with a profit agenda, and how they were not dealing squarely with investigative reporters

For propaganda to be effective, there needs to be central coordination of narratives, and that’s where public relations agencies come in. Few appreciate the power that these companies have. Two-thirds to 80% of the content broadcast and published by corporate media comes from public relations firms, so most of the so-called “news” is actually brainwashing propaganda

Other common PR tools include “public protests,” which are actually made up of people hired by the PR company, and media will of course be sent there to cover it, and front groups, which are paid by industry to promote a particular view that benefits that industry

Study: Vitamin D Deficiency in Pregnancies During Lockdowns

Lockdowns during the pandemic confined people in their homes for extended periods of time, making it more difficult to get regular sun exposure — the best source of vitamin D

Strict lockdowns increased the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in pregnant women as a result

Overall, 55.5% of pregnant women in the region studied were vitamin D deficient, but among those on strict lockdown the prevalence was significantly higher at 77.8%

Research has linked vitamin D deficiency with adverse effects in pregnancy, including preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, preterm birth and caesarean delivery

Other studies also suggest that lockdowns negatively affected pregnant women; in China, pregnant women who experienced a Level I lockdown had shorter gestational length and a higher risk of preterm birth than women who did not

Anti-Aging Breakthrough Will Excite Transhumanists

“I don’t see why it cannot be applied to more complex organisms,” said the study’s senior author.

Scientists have achieved a significant breakthrough in the effort to slow the aging process with a novel technique that increased the lifespans of yeast cells by a whopping 82 percent, reports a new study.

By programming cells to constantly switch between two aging pathways, researchers were able to prevent them from fully committing to either deteriorative process, a method that nearly doubled the lifespan of the cells. In other words, rather than the entire cell aging at once, the aging process was toggled between different physical parts of the organism, extending its life. This synthetic “toggle switch” offers a potential roadmap toward treatments that could one day extend human longevity, though that future is highly speculative at this time.

We are born, we age, we die—so goes the story of humanity since time immemorial. However, this familiar progression could be shaken up by enormous advances in genetics that have opened new windows into the underlying biological mechanisms that cause us to age, raising the possibility that they could be rewired to extend our lifespans.

Now, a team of scientists at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), have developed a new solution to this age-old problem that essentially tricks cells into waffling between two common deteriorative processes in cells. Using synthetic biology, the researchers genetically reprogrammed a circuit that chooses between these divergent paths toward death, causing it to constantly oscillate between its fates instead of actually dedicating itself to one.

These “oscillations increased cellular lifespan through the delay of the commitment to aging,” a result that establishes “a connection between gene network architecture and cellular longevity that could lead to rationally designed gene circuits that slow aging,” according to a study published on Thursday in Science.

ChatGPT, AI, and the future of privacy

The first month of 2023 has brought brutal layoffs from Big Tech

The chatbot can produce remarkably human-sounding text and, depending on the prompt, even generate creative responses that sound like they could not possibly have come from a computer:

The pace of progress is staggering. And, if past technology is any model, it will only accelerate. The current generation of chatbots has already shattered the Turing test, making it very likely that AI-powered chatbots will soon be applied to all kinds of jobs, tasks, and devices in the near future. It’s only a matter of time before interacting with AI is a regular part of our daily routine. This proliferation will only further accelerate AI’s development.

This is all good news! AI is a powerful tool that could lead to all sorts of new developments and breakthroughs. However, as with any tool, we must make sure it’s used and developed responsibly. At Proton, we’ve noticed that for all the publicity around ChatGPT, there’s been little examination of the privacy questions that AI raises.

We’re going to explain how AI, like ChatGPT, needs data to develop and how AI in the future could present new challenges to our privacy.

We even interviewed ChatGPT about the future of privacy, and it came up with some good answers.
