Russia Scales Back Victory Day Celebrations After Alleged Assassination Attempt on Putin

Russia announced on Wednesday that security would be increased across Moscow, and Victory Day celebrations scaled back, due to the possibility of attacks by alleged Ukrainian saboteurs.

Soon after this announcement was made, Russian officials claimed Ukrainian operatives tried to assassinate Vladimir Putin with a drone attack on the Kremlin.

Russia accuses Ukraine of attempted Kremlin drone attack on Putin

Russia said Wednesday it had shot down two drones at President Vladimir Putin’s Kremlin residence in what it called a Ukrainian “terrorist” assassination attempt.

Kyiv insisted it had “nothing to do” with the alleged attack, suggesting it was “staged” by Moscow, while the US said the report should be taken with a “shaker of salt”.

Biden Implicated In Bribery Scheme, Grassley And Comer Allege In New Subpoena Demand To FBI

The demand comes just one month after Comer warned that Republicans’ investigation into Biden’s corruption ‘doesn’t look good for POTUS.’

Republicans Sen. Chuck Grassley and Rep. James Comer subpoenaed the FBI on Wednesday for an unclassified document they say alleges a criminal scheme between now-President Joe Biden and a “foreign national” during his years in the Obama White House.

The record reportedly details the former vice president’s arrangement to receive money in exchange for pushing certain policy positions. The Republicans were only made aware of Biden’s potential criminal enterprise because of an unnamed whistleblower.

Police Get a Green Light to Use Force Against Unarmed Individuals Who Have Already Surrendered or Complied

The U.S. Supreme Court has once again refused to hold police accountable for using force on unarmed individuals who have already surrendered or complied with police orders. Despite a series of high-profile incidents involving the use of unnecessary and excessive force by police against unarmed individuals, the Court declined to narrow the scope of qualified immunity granted to officers who assault non-violent suspects who have ceased to resist arrest.

Attorneys for The Rutherford Institute and Cato Institute had filed a joint amicus brief before the Supreme Court in Salazar v. Molina, challenging a lower court ruling that essentially gives police a green light to punish and harm suspects solely based upon their initial nonviolent resistance or flight. The legal coalition warned that the ruling by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, which granted qualified immunity to a police officer who tased a non-violent suspect in the back after he lay down to surrender, undermines public safety by discouraging suspects from surrendering or complying with police commands.

“The old police motto to ‘protect and serve’ has become ‘comply or die,’” said constitutional attorney John W. Whitehead, president of The Rutherford Institute and author of Battlefield America: The War on the American People. “This is how we have gone from a nation of laws—where the least among us had just as much right to be treated with dignity and respect as the next person (in principle, at least)—to a nation of law enforcers (revenue collectors with weapons) who treat ‘we the people’ like suspects and criminals.”

On World Press Freedom Day, State Department Refuses to Acknowledge Julian Assange Is a Journalist

The State Department refused to acknowledge on Wednesday, which marked World Press Freedom Day, that WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is a journalist.

State Department spokesman Vedant Patel was asked by AP reporter Matt Lee if he considers Assange to be a journalist. “Matt, I am just not gonna offer a prescriptive assessment from here. Our view on Mr. Assange is that he’s been charged with serious criminal conduct,” he said.

Lee retorted by pointing out that anyone can face criminal charges, including Evan Gershkovich, a Wall Street Journal reporter recently arrested by Russia. Patel said the cases were “completely different” and refused to say whether the State Department considers Assange a journalist.

New York subway rider killed performer via chokehold, authorities say

A 30-year-old Black man who regularly danced in the Times Square transit hub was killed on Monday by a rider who put him in a chokehold on the New York City subway.

The confrontation took place as an F train traveling north reached the Broadway-Lafayette station in SoHo. Witnesses say Jordan Neely, recognizable to some New Yorkers as a Michael Jackson impersonator, was behaving erratically at the time. Video footage captured by Juan Alberto Vazquez, a freelance journalist, and shared on Facebook, showed Neely kicking as he was held down by passengers.

The man who pinned down Neely has not been identified but has been described in local reports as a 24-year-old former US Marine. The man held Neely in a chokehold with his legs wrapped around his body; Neely lost consciousness during the struggle and later died in the hospital.

Judge denies Kim Gardner’s motion to dismiss Missouri AG case

A judge denied a motion from St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner to dismiss the Missouri attorney general’s case that attempts to remove her from office.

According to Missouri court records, special Judge John Torbitzky dismissed the motion Tuesday. This allows a quo warranto lawsuit against Gardner to advance to trail.

Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey originally filed a writ of quo warranto against Gardner on Feb. 23, accusing her of neglecting her duties as circuit attorney. He amended his petition last month to include additional allegations of neglect.

Scientists: Meat Is Absolutely Crucial For Human Health

Scientists have called for zealots to stop pushing vegetarian and vegan diets on to people, warning that meat is crucial for a healthy lifestyle.

Almost 1,000 academics from leading universities across the world have signed an initiative which argues that livestock farming is too important to ‘become the victim of zealotry’.

Publishing in the academic journal Animal Frontiers, as part of a collaboration between professional animal science societies, dozens of experts looked behind new claims that eating meat causes diseases, as well as being harmful for the planet.

It comes amid a bigger push from campaigners to take up a plant-based diet, with initiatives such as Veganuary and Meatfree Mondays.

Further to this, the medical journal The Lancet published a paper The Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries and Risk Factor Study in 2020, where they said a high red meat diet was responsible to 896,000 deaths globally.

Cornell Study: Nanoparticles in foods may harm gut microbiome

Would you like to enhance your mood, promote smoother skin, improve heart and immune function, enjoy better sleep, and increase your energy levels?  If you answered “yes,” you’ll want to take better care of your gut by avoiding metal nanoparticles being found within the food supply.

Decades of research show us that a healthy gut microbiome (the community of bacteria living inside your digestive tract) is linked to better health overall – and the reverse is true, as well.  When “bad” bacteria in the gut overpower the “good” bacteria, we tend to see health problems ranging from obesity to depression.

Unfortunately, it turns out that a hidden part of our diet may be negatively affecting our gut microbiome.

New Study: Food-Grade Metal Oxide Nanoparticles Exposure Alters Intestinal Microbial Populations, Brush Border Membrane Functionality and Morphology, In Vivo (Gallus gallus)

Want a healthy gut?  Here are four things you should keep in mind

Given what we know about the benefits of a healthy gut, keeping up some gut-friendly habits is definitely worth your while.  Here are four things you can be doing daily to promote improved gut bacteria and gut function:

  • Eat more fiber.  According to Johns Hopkins, most Americans eat only about half of the recommended 25 to 30 grams of fiber per day.  But fiber, especially from organic fruits, vegetables, and nuts and seeds (like chia seeds), is essential for supporting the “good” gut bacteria that can help you thrive.  So aim to get your fiber from food rather than supplements.  (And if you are going to invest in dietary supplements of any kind, read the ingredients carefully, look for third-party testing, and be willing to pay a little more if it means the quality is better.)
  • Add in probiotic foods.  Things like fresh yogurt, sauerkraut, kimchi, kefir, and pickled ginger are known to support a healthy digestive system.  Meanwhile, avoid highly-processed foods with added sugar, as this has been linked to increased inflammation and fewer “good” bacteria in the gut.
  • Stay well-hydrated.  In addition to eating a diet rich in fiber and whole foods, drinking enough clean water promotes bowel regularity and may even promote beneficial diversity in your gut bacteria, according to a 2021 article published in The Journal of Nutrition.  The best way to tell if you’re drinking enough water is to look at your urine: it should be pale yellow in color.  Aim for about half your body weight in fluid ounces per day.
  • Get enough sleep.  Sleep helps manage stress and provides an essential opportunity for your body and gut to repair itself.  8 hours per night on average is best for most adults!

ECONOMY & BUSINESS

Fed raises interest rates a quarter point, hints at possible pause

The Federal Reserve on Wednesday raised its benchmark interest rate by a quarter of a point but opened the door to a long-awaited pause in its most aggressive tightening campaign since the 1980s.

The widely expected and unanimous decision puts the key benchmark federal funds rate at a range of 5% to 5.25%, the highest since August 2007, from near zero a little more than one year ago. It marks the 10th consecutive rate increase aimed at combating high inflation and slowing the economy.

But for the first time in a year, policymakers signaled that future rate increases are not a given, suggesting that additional policy moves will hinge on “incoming information.”

“In determining the extent to which additional policy firming may be appropriate to return inflation to 2% over time, the Committee will take into account the cumulative tightening of monetary policy, the lags with which monetary policy affects economic activity and inflation, and economic and financial developments,” the Fed said in its post-meeting statement.

Oklahoma Blacklists 13 Financial Institutions Deemed to Be Boycotting Energy Companies

Oklahoma State Treasurer Todd Russ (R) announced on Wednesday that the Sooner State is blacklisting 13 financial institutions deemed to be boycotting the energy industry within the state.

Russ is blacklisting 13 financial institutions, including asset managers BlackRock and State Street, for engaging in ESG (environmental, social, and corporate governance) investing and are deemed to be participating in energy boycotts and, under a recently passed Oklahoma law, will be banned from doing business in Oklahoma.

‘Dynamics of Downtown’ San Francisco Leads to Nordstrom Exit from City

Nordstrom will be shuttering its two stores in downtown San Francisco after 35 years due to a change in “the dynamics of the downtown,” the retailer announced Tuesday.

Nordstrom Rack will close July 1 and the Westfield Mall Nordstrom will close at the end of August, the San Francisco Standard reported. Between the two stores 375,000 square feet of retail space will be completely vacant by the end of summer, according to the report.

Nordstrom Leaving San Francisco, Will Open Store in City With Less Crime

Nordstrom is the latest company to flee deteriorating economic conditions in San Francisco.

On Tuesday, the retailer confirmed that it would close both of its stores downtown, blaming the changing dynamics in the San Francisco market over the past few years. The company’s chief stores officer said the changing dynamics have negatively affected foot traffic to the stores and Nordstrom’s “ability to operate successfully,” according to The San Francisco Standard, an online outlet.

Crime has become an increasingly important topic in political campaigns nationwide, with cities like San Francisco and Chicago often listed as areas that are struggling with the problem. Increasing crime in San Francisco led to the recall of then-District Attorney Chesa Boudin in 2022, amid accusations that he wasn’t being tough on crime. San Francisco’s incidence of crime has included an increase in looting, and businesses in California have had to deal with looters ransacking stores.

Skynet Rising: Robot Dog Merged With ChatGPT Brain

A team of artificial intelligence engineers equipped a Boston Dynamics robot dog with OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Text-to-Speech voice, creating what could be a real-life Skynet-like robot.

In a recent video posted to Twitter, machine learning engineer Santiago Valdarrama showed how the robo-dog can interact with humans via a voice interface faster than control panels and reports.

“These robots run automated missions every day,” Valdarrama said in a Twitter thread, noting that each mission could be “miles-long, hard-to-understand configuration files” and “only technical people can handle them.” When paired with ChatGPT and Google’s Text-to-Speech voice, a user can ask simple questions to the robot about “configuration files and the mission results.”

“We can now ask the robots about past and future missions and get an answer in real time. ChatGPT interprets the question, parses the files, and formulates the answer,” he said.

The ChatGPT brain means anyone can talk to the robo-dog.

Tertiary Prepper Skills – Reconnaissance

The world of prepping is constantly evolving.  Just look at how far technological advancements in the past five to ten years have come and how it has benefitted not only the military and law enforcement but the prepper community as well.  But alas, with every technological advance, the prior way of doing things and that knowledge tends to slowly slip away into an abyss.

One major change has been in how we view defensive operations.  In the “ole” days one would have to reconnoiter if you needed to gather intel.  Fast forward to today and you ask any MAG, tribe, or prepper group, and more than likely they will have one, if not two, drones along with highly skilled and knowledgeable operators.  In essence, drones have become a force multiplier for not only the military but civilians as well.  The “eye-in-the-sky” is the new way of performing reconnaissance, but is it always the best way?

New York Passes Gas Ban in New Buildings; Strain on Electricity Grid

New York State became the first state in the nation on Tuesday to ban natural gas and other fossil fuels in new buildings, mandating a shift to renewable energy and electricity as the state’s power grid runs short of capacity.

The Washington Post reported:

New York has become the first state in the nation to pass a law banning natural gas and other fossil fuels in most new buildings, a move that could inspire other states and further erode the residential future of the gas industry.

The law effectively requires all-electric heating and cooking in new buildings shorter than seven stories by 2026, and in 2029 for taller buildings. And although it allows exemptions for manufacturing facilities, restaurants, hospitals and even carwashes, the measure does not do what some climate activists had feared: give cities and counties license to override the ban.

The ban also extends to heating oil and propane, raising questions about the future of these fuels in New York state’s more rural communities.

Natural gas currently accounts for 46% of New York’s power supply, the Post notes. The state also infamously banned hydraulic fracturing, or “fracking,” which has fueled an oil and gas boom in neighboring Pennsylvania.
