Slap on the Wrist: China’s TikTok Could Face $29 Million Fine from UK for Failing to Protect Children

The Chinese-owned social media app TikTok could reportedly face a $29 million slap on the wrist after the Information Commissioner’s Office said that it has provisionally found that TikTok breached the UK data protection law between May 2018 and July 2020 by failing to handle the personal data of minor children.

CNBC reports that TikTok could face a £27 million ($29 million) fine in the UK after privacy regulators found that the company failed to handle children’s data in an acceptable way. The Information Commissioner’s Office issued a “notice of intent” to  TikTok informing the company of its “provisional view that TikTok breached UK data protection law between May 2018 and July 2020.”

Canadian Province Refuses To Participate in Trudeau’s Federal Gun Confiscation

Alberta Justice Minister Tyler Shandro said his province will not participate in any attempts to seize firearms the federal government under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has recently prohibited, including so-called “assault rifles.”

Justice Minister Shandro explained that he did not want to see the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in Alberta go around confiscating firearms after claiming to have received a letter from the federal minister of public safety Marc Mendicino asking for resources to aid in confiscation efforts set to begin in the Autumn.

As Italy Election Dust Settles, Looking at the State of European Conservatism Today

The apparent victory of the Giorgia Meloni, Matteo Salvini, and Silvio Berlusconi coalition in Italy’s election may mark a new high point for the broader right in Europe, which has been in a back and forth battle with the left-liberal establishment across the continent since 2016.

Meloni, of the national conservative Brothers of Italy (FdI), secured less than five per cent of the vote in 2018, but now leads the largest party in her country and appears set to become its first female prime minister, backed by Matteo Salvini’s League (Lega) and elder statesman Silvio Berlusconi’s Forza Italia.

An unabashed anti-mass migration social conservative who owes at least some of her surge in popularity to a refusal to back the previous technocratic government like most every other major party in the country, branding its imposition of punishing restrictions and mandates on the unvaccinated “state blackmail”, Meloni’s election could truly overturn the established order in the European Union — more perhaps than even Brexit in 2016.

BALTOPS 22: A Perfect Opportunity for Research and Resting New Technology

A significant focus of BALTOPS every year is the demonstration of NATO mine hunting capabilities, and this year the U.S. Navy continues to use the exercise as an opportunity to test emerging technology, U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa Public Affairs said June 14.

In support of BALTOPS, U.S. Navy 6th Fleet partnered with U.S. Navy research and warfare centers to bring the latest advancements in unmanned underwater vehicle mine hunting technology to the Baltic Sea to demonstrate the vehicle’s effectiveness in operational scenarios.

Experimentation was conducted off the coast of Bornholm, Denmark, with participants from Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific, Naval Undersea Warfare Center Newport, and Mine Warfare Readiness and Effectiveness Measuring all under the direction of U.S. 6th Fleet Task Force 68.

BALTOPS is an ideal location for conducting mine hunting experimentation due to the region’s unique environmental conductions such as low salinity and varying bottom types. It is also critical to evaluate emerging mine hunting UUV technology in the Baltic due to its applicability with allied and partner nations. This year experimentation was focused on UUV navigation, teaming operations, and improvements in acoustic communications all while collecting critical environmental data sets to advance the automatic target recognition algorithms for mine detection.

“In prior BALTOPS we demonstrated advanced capabilities to detect, reacquire and collect images of mine contacts, and transfer those images in near real-time to operators through the use of a specialized Office of Naval Research UUV,” said Anthony Constable, Office of Naval Research science advisor to U.S. 6th Fleet. “This year, through the work of NIWC Pacific and NUWC Newport, we are showing that this capability can be integrated into programs of record by executing complex multi-vehicle UUV missions with modified U.S. Navy fleet assets.”

An additional critical objective was to continue to increase the communication range and data transfer capability to give the operators more flexibility in mine hunting operations. Advancements in communication technology, demonstrated this year, have shown a significant improvement in operating ranges over currently used systems. This provides additional standoff flexibility to the U.S. Navy in conducting safe mine hunting operations.

BALTOPS also provides a unique opportunity for the U.S. research, development and acquisition communities to exercise the current and emerging UUV technology in real-world operational environments. This year featured the current and future programs of record for mine hunting UUVs in the Mk18 and Lionfish systems. Both systems were put through the paces over 10 days of mine-hunting operations, collecting over 200 hours of undersea data.

“The major benefit of the BALTOPS experimentation is to provide advanced mine hunting capabilities to the operator in the field. By exercising the future capabilities, U.S. 6th Fleet can provide valuable feedback to help guide the Navy acquisition community responsible for mine hunting UUV development and procurement,” said Lt. Joshua Lynn, U.S. 6th Fleet experimental lead for BALTOPS. “This year we have seen the near- and long-term future in mine hunting UUV technology and we are excited to see how quickly the technology and capabilities are improving.”

2 Million Floridians Without Power as Weakened Ian Batters Peninsula

More than 2 million are without power Wednesday night as a weakened Hurricane Ian batters the Florida Peninsula after making landfall hours earlier over the state’s west coast as a Category 4.

As of 11 p.m. local time, Ian decreased to a Category 1 system with top sustained wind speeds of 90 mph, continuing to cause storm surges, wind, and flooding as it moves north-northeast at around 8 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The system is expected to move across central Florida overnight and Thursday morning and emerge over the western Atlantic at near-hurricane strength by late Thursday, before approaching the northeastern Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina coasts.

According to PowerOutage.us, there are more than 2 million reported outages as of 11 p.m. Duke Energy, Florida Power and Light Company, and Tampa Electric also reported significant outages.

Florida Reporter Defends Condom on Microphone: ‘Can’t Get These Mics Wet’

Florida reporter Kyla Galer of NBC2 became a viral sensation on Wednesday when she defended having a condom over her microphone on live TV.

Speaking from a parking lot in Fort Myers, Florida, Galer addressed the elephant in the room as viewers wondered if the plastic wrapping on her microphone was indeed what they thought it was.

Ron DeSantis Bashes Media Trying to Politicize Storm: ‘Give Me a Break’

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) this week sharply dismissed establishment media attempts to politicize Hurricane Ian as they seem to salivate over the possibility of the DeSantis administration botching the response.

A reporter asked the governor about supposed concerns over Florida lacking response to the storm thus far, and DeSantis immediately questioned the validity of the inquiry.

National Hurricane Center chief shuts down CNN’s Don Lemon trying to link Hurricane Ian to climate change

CNN’s Don Lemon was shut down by acting director of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) National Hurricane Center on Tuesday after he asked about the effect climate change had on Hurricane Ian.

Jamie Rhome joined CNN’s “Don Lemon Tonight” to talk about Hurricane Ian, which is nearing Florida’s cost as it possibly strengthens to a Category 5 storm.

Lemon noted that meteorologists have said Hurricane Ian could enter “another period of rapid intensification” and asked Rhome what effect climate change had has on the “phenomena.”

US Military Base Schools Indoctrinating Children in Left-Wing Ideology: Report

U.S. troops serving overseas may find that government schools are indoctrinating their children and teaching them to keep secrets from their parents.

According to a report from the Claremont Institute, classes from the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) teach children radical activism, gender ideology, and hiding gender questions from families.

The lesson plans aren’t about teachers helping children learn the basics; instead, they’re about teachers helping children hide facts from their parents.

“Maybe that student is not ‘out’ to other students in their gender identity,” seventh-grade humanities teacher Genevieve Chavez says in a video provided to Claremont by a whistleblower. “They may be out at school; but they may not be out at home.”

Chavez was teaching at David Glasgow Farragut Middle/High School in Rota, Spain, which serves the nearby U.S. naval base.

Debate Over Virginia’s New Transgender Student Policies Highlights Parental Rights Battle

Over 20,000 comments—strong support and objections—were registered during the first two days of the public comment period for Virginia’s new transgender student policies. The new guidelines, released on Sept. 16, overhauled the 2021 version by ensuring parents’ consent to their children’s name or gender identity change and requiring school bathroom use according to students’ biological sex.

In addition, a student LGBT advocacy group—the Pride Liberation Project—organized walkouts in about 100 schools across Virginia on Tuesday, asking the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) to revoke the new guidelines and their school districts to reject the VDOE model policies. The demonstrations mainly concentrated in Fairfax County, where the student group is based, and the remaining northern Virginia counties: Loudoun, Prince William, and Arlington.

The 2021 VDOE model policies, finalized in March 2021 under the former administration, allowed students to pick their names, pronouns, and gender identities without their parents’ involvement. Therefore, the guidelines were controversial in the state. As of early September, only 10 percent, or 13, of the total 132 school districts adopted them, according to Equality Virginia, an advocacy group for the LGBT community. And nine school districts rejected the model policies.

Report: Soros-Linked Group Wins $41M Contract from Biden to Help Illegal Aliens Evade Deportation

A non-governmental organization (NGO), with financial links to billionaire George Soros, has won a $41 million federal contract from President Joe Biden’s Department of Justice (DOJ) to help illegal aliens evade deportation from the United States.

The Acacia Center for Justice, an NGO with financial ties to the Soros-linked Vera Institute of Justice, scored a contract from Biden’s DOJ to provide “legal services” to border crossers and illegal aliens after they are released into the U.S. interior in the hopes of staying permanently.

Fox News’s Joe Schoffstall reports:

The Biden administration awarded $41 million in taxpayer-backed government contracts to a new liberal nonprofit working to help illegal immigrants fight deportation amid the escalating border crisis, Fox News Digital has discovered. [Emphasis added]

The Acacia Center for Justice, a Washington, D.C.,-based nonprofit born from a partnership between the Vera Institute of Justice and Capital Area Immigrants’ Rights (CAIR), has received six “legal services” contracts from the Department of Justice that carried start dates of Sept. 1, according to records. [Emphasis added]

The multimillion-dollar contracts began just months after the under-the-radar nonprofit received a July 29 determination letter from the Internal Revenue Service, which stated the group’s effective date of tax exemption was Dec. 29, 2021. [Emphasis added]

The Soros-linked Vera Institute of Justice, as Breitbart News previously reported, was recently awarded a $172 million contract from Biden’s DOJ to do the same work — help illegal aliens evade deportation from the U.S.

Trump Offers to Mediate a Peace Deal Between Russia, Ukraine, and US

Former President Donald Trump on Sept. 28 offered to step in to negotiate a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine, citing the recent damage that was reportedly done to the Nord Stream I and II gas pipelines.

The pipelines, which Trump wrote have been sabotaged, could lead to a “major escalation” between the United States, Russia, and Europe. Leaders in the United States, he added on Truth Social, should remain “cool, calm, and dry.”

“This is a big event that should not entail a big solution, at least not yet,” he wrote. “The Russia/Ukraine catastrophe should NEVER have happened, and would definitely not have happened if I were President. Do not make matters worse with the pipeline blowup. Be strategic, be smart (brilliant!), get a negotiated deal done NOW.”

“Both sides need and want it. The entire World is at stake. I will head up [the] group???”

The Epoch Times contacted the Department of State about Trump’s proposal.

During a Sept. 27 interview, Trump told podcast host John Catsimatidis said that “we could end up in World War III and it could be all of the horrible things that took place in Ukraine.”

“I think we’re at the most dangerous time maybe in, in many, many years—maybe ever—because of the power of nuclear,” Trump said.

Advocates Decry Attempts to Investigate DeSantis’ Illegal Immigrant Flights

News Analysis

Conservative advocates and observers are calling out Democrat attempts to criminally investigate the immigration policies that Florida’s Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis is following by transporting migrants to so-called sanctuary cities.

A week ago, Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar, a Texas Democrat, opened up a criminal investigation after DeSantis chartered two flights taking illegal immigrants from Texas to Martha’s Vineyard, the island haven off the coast of Massachusetts, which bills itself as a “sanctuary destination” for illegal immigrants.

Sanctuary cities pledge to support illegal immigrant communities, and limit or refuse to cooperate with law enforcement officials in removing illegal immigrants from the country.

Later California’s Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom, a rumored rival of DeSantis for the presidential election in 2024 along with Biden, called on the Department of Justice (DOJ) to open a criminal investigation into DeSantis over the incident.

“I’m formally requesting the DOJ begin an immediate investigation into these inhumane efforts to use kids as political pawns,” Newsom said in a tweet, which included the referral letter he sent to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland.

The House Homeland Security Committee also wrote to the DOJ and Department of Homeland Security requesting they open investigations into the flights.

One big DeSantis booster, who lost her 21-year-old son to an auto accident with an illegal immigrant in 2007, Kiyan Michael, is troubled by the implications for the country.

“Why don’t we investigate what we need to be investigating like why our borders are wide open?” Michael told The Epoch Times.

Michael noted that DeSantis swore an oath to protect the citizens of Florida and keep them safe, as did the officials in Texas.

Dozens of Ex-FBI Agents Back Whistleblower Who Accused Agency of Political Bias: Report

Messages of support from thirty former FBI agents defend suspended whistleblower Steve Friend, who alleged political bias at the agency over its handling of the Jan. 6 Capitol breach probe.

Among the former agents expressing support for Friend include a retired deputy assistant director and five former SWAT team members, according to the New York Post.

Friend alleged in a declaration made public on Sept. 26 that the FBI has been using heavy-handed tactics with respect to some Jan. 6 Capitol breach suspects, citing a case where a SWAT team was used to make an arrest on misdemeanor charges, which he called “inappropriate.”

The whistleblower also accused the agency of violating the Justice Department’s guidelines for the FBI’s domestic investigations (pdf) by resorting to “atypical” procedures in the handling of Jan. 6 probes.

He claimed that the FBI had diminished the role of field offices and field agents in the Jan. 6 investigations by centralizing case management to the FBI’s J6 Task Force.

“Resultantly, there are active criminal investigations of J6 subjects in which I am listed as the “Case Agent,” but have not done any investigative work,” Friend stated.

ECONOMY & BUSINESS

Spookflation: Pumpkin Prices Soar as Halloween Approaches

As the Halloween season approaches, pumpkin prices are expected to increase due to inflation, drought, and higher production costs.

The average price of a large pumpkin this year is $5.68, up from $4.92 last year, meaning this year’s jack-o-lantern decorations may be a bit pricier for some families.

Farmers and experts attribute skyrocketing fuel, fertilizer, and seed prices as examples of inflation contributing to higher pumpkin costs. Labor shortages have also been noted to have an impact to some extent.

America’s Economic Downturn Could Be Worse Than ‘Average Garden Variety’ Recession: Stanley Druckenmiller

Billionaire investor Stanley Druckenmiller said at an investor summit in New York City on Sept. 28 that he’s worried that the economic downturn stalking the United States could be worse than an “average garden variety” recession.

Druckenmiller said at the Delivering Alpha Investor Summit that he’s convinced it’s impossible for the U.S. economy to experience a so-called “soft landing,” which is a situation when growth slows but the economy avoids falling into a recession.

Instead, his base-case scenario is for a “hard landing” by the end of 2023, driven by the Federal Reserve’s aggressive rate-hiking fight to curtail soaring inflation.

“We are in deep trouble,” the iconic investor said, arguing that years of the Fed’s ultra-easy money policies fueled an asset bubble that is now deflating as the Fed engages in quantitative tightening in a desperate bid to tame runaway prices.

Druckenmiller added that he wouldn’t be surprised if the U.S. downturn isn’t “larger than the so-called average garden variety” recession.

“I don’t rule out something really bad,” he said.

Even though the U.S. economy met the rule-of-thumb definition for a recession when it recorded two consecutive quarters of negative gross domestic product (GDP) growth earlier this year, it has not yet been officially designated as such by the official recession shot-callers at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER).

Synthetic Salvation: On Genomics, Mind Uploads, and the Quest for Immortality

Fear of death is intrinsic to human life. As our years accumulate, we watch friends and family drop off, one by one, disappearing from our presence and lingering only in memories.

Barring some miracle, divine or otherwise, we’re all soon to follow, down to the sweetest baby ever born.

Unfazed by this horror, the faithful are emboldened by belief in resurrection or reincarnation—a direct participation in the eternal. For religious people, the body is just a vehicle for a transcendent soul. The mystery of death is a rite of passage.

For the materialist, there is only this world, beyond which the dying meet total annihilation. The brain dissolves into black nothingness. Consciousness stops with the Big Zero at the end of our lives. And for all sentient beings, and all memory of our existence, there awaits the Big Zero at the end of the universe.

The cosmos is nothing but atoms and the void. To make matters worse, the atoms are slowly freezing to death.

Wallowing in this trance of sorrow, our elites, and most anybody else, would pay anything to live forever—or just a little longer. Held in thrall by old age, disease, and death, they put faith in biomedical protection racketeers who swear they can keep the Reaper at bay.

Today, it’s the vaxx-addicts and maskholes.

Tomorrow, it’ll be needle-pocked mutants with blinking devices stuck all over them, who pray to AI for a place in the cloud.

Transhumanism offers synthetic salvation through three basic methods—bio longevity, bionic continuity, and digital immortality.

Genomics will stop aging on the cellular level. Bionics will keep the body running with replacement parts. Once artificial intelligence is sufficiently advanced, mind uploads will allow eternal communion with the digital deities whom techies are busy creating.

“I think that there’s a good probability,” the human-reptile hybrid, Jared Kushner, recently said, “that my generation is—hopefully with the advances in science—either the first generation to live forever, or the last generation that’s gonna die.”

A more likely scenario? This is the first generation to merge with machines, and the last generation to regret it.

Kushner is not alone. Many of our credulous elites, from Wall Street to the World Economic Forum, have been ensnared by a techno-religion. Its unfrocked priests are the scientists and futurists who push radical gene therapies, brain-computer interfaces, and various life-logging gadgets. As the actual technology becomes more and more sophisticated, you can be sure every atheist and his lapsed uncle will fall prey to this cosmic scam.

And for those who can’t afford it? Well, you know, there’s only so much room on the lifeboat.

SURVEILLANCE STATE

Executive Order Advances Biotech-Transhumanist Agenda

I predicted this ‘no testing required’ formula would spread beyond COVID shots, and according to the executive order Biden just signed, that’s exactly what’s about to happen.

September 12, 2022, President Biden signed the “Executive Order on Advancing Biotechnology and Biomanufacturing Innovation for a Sustainable, Safe and Secure American Bioeconomy”

Specified in that order is the development of genetic engineering technologies and techniques “to be able to write circuitry for cells and predictably program biology in the same way in which we write software and program computers,” as well as genetic technologies to “unlock the power of biological data” using “computing tools and artificial intelligence”

This executive order establishes a fast-tracked pipeline of mRNA shots and other gene therapies that will further the transhumanist agenda to create augmented humans and bring us into a post-human world

Drug makers have clearly expected this free-for-all as they have loads of mRNA candidates in their pipelines. September 14, 2022, Pfizer initiated a Phase 3 study that will test a quadrivalent mRNA-based flu shot on 25,000 American adults

Moderna began its Phase 3 mRNA flu jab trial in early June 2022. Ultimately, Moderna wants to create an annual mRNA shot that covers all of the top 10 viruses that result in hospitalizations each year

Amazon Device Tracks How You Breathe While Sleeping

Amazon.com Inc. on Wednesday announced a contactless device to monitor customers’ sleep as well as a new version of the Kindle which allows users to write on the e-reader.

Amazon said the $139.99 sleep device, known as Halo Rise, tracks room temperature, humidity and light, plus the breathing patterns of the person closest to it. The goal is to provide insight to users on why they may or may not feel well-rested when they wake up.

Like many technology companies, Amazon has invested in health-tracking gadgets for consumers, at times drawing regulatory scrutiny for sensitive information it aimed to collect like body fat percentage via a fitness wristband called Halo.

Amazon has said privacy is foundational to its work and that the sleep tracker will encrypt health data.

Sleep Experts Warn Against Giving Melatonin to Children

Use of the over-the-counter sleep aid melatonin is increasing among young people, and calls to poison control centers and visits to the emergency room are also on the rise.

This is mostly because young children and teens are accidentally ingesting more of the supplement than is safe, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

In response, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) has issued an advisory urging parents to talk to a doctor before giving children melatonin or any other dietary supplement.

“The availability of melatonin as gummies or chewable tablets makes it more tempting to give to children and more likely for them to overdose,” said Dr. Muhammad Adeel Rishi, a critical care specialist at Indiana University Health.

While melatonin can be useful in treating certain sleep-wake disorders, like jet lag, there is less evidence that it can help healthy kids or adults fall asleep faster, he explained in an academy news release. The new advisory said that there is little evidence that it is an effective remedy for insomnia in healthy kids.

“Instead of turning to melatonin, parents should work on encouraging their children to develop good sleep habits, like setting a regular bedtime and wake time, having a bedtime routine, and limiting screen time as bedtime approaches,” Rishi advised.

Melatonin is a natural hormone that helps control sleep-wake cycles. It is sold over the counter as a sleep aid. Because melatonin is marketed a supplement, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has less control over where and how it is sold and research has shown that the dose can vary. One study found that the amount of melatonin in chewable tablets, which children are most likely to take, varied the most.

From 2012 to 2021, the number of cases reported to U.S. poison control centers involving kids ingesting melatonin rose by 530%. By 2020, melatonin was the most common substance that children ingested, according to the CDC.

More than 4,000 reported cases resulted in hospitalization, and 287 children needed intensive care, the CDC said.

Taking too much melatonin can cause a sudden headache, dizziness or episodes of unprovoked anger.

The AASM recommends that melatonin be treated like any other medicine and kept away from children.

FDA Proposes New Rules for Packaged Foods to Qualify as ‘Healthy’

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Wednesday proposed new rules for labeling packaged foods as “healthy,” as it seeks to help people make informed nutritional choices which can help lower the risk of chronic diseases.

The proposed changes to food labeling come on the day of the first White House summit on hunger, nutrition and health in more than 50 years.

Under the new proposal, packaged products will be allowed to carry the “healthy” label subject to them containing a certain amount of food from at least one of the groups, recommended by the current dietary guidelines, with specified limits on saturated fat, sodium and added sugars.

More than 80% of the U.S. population has not been eating enough vegetables, fruit and dairy, while consuming unhealthy amounts of added sugars, saturated fat and sodium in their diet, the FDA said.

“Too many people may not know what constitutes healthy food. FDA’s move will help educate more Americans,” U.S. HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra said in a statement.

Cancer Cells Can Be Starved to Death, Here’s How

Just like how people survive on food, cancer cells survive on sugar.

Around one century ago, Otto Warburg, well-known German physiologist, discovered that cancer cells are addicted to sugar.

Normal cells depend on oxygen for their growth. Cancer cells, however, grow by devouring large amounts of glucose, even in an oxygen-rich environment. This phenomenon occurs in as many as 80 percent of cancers.

The metabolic way cancer cells use sugar as an energy source is called glycolytic metabolism. This phenomenon is known as the Warburg effect.

Cancer Cells Consume 100 Times More Sugar Than Normal Tissue Cells

The metabolism and growth rate of cancer cells are much faster than normal cells, and their consumption of sugar is also faster than we can imagine. It can be said that cancer cells are constantly thirsty for sugar.

In a 2014 paper published in BMC Biology, American scientists showed that many cancer cells specifically choose glucose as their food and consume glucose 50 to 100 times faster than normal tissues.

Cancer cells desperately absorb sugar and consume it rapidly in order to grow, multiply, and spread rapidly.

Sugar can produce carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, which to cells are like bricks, cement, and insulating materials with which to build homes. In addition, sugar also makes DNA and RNA for cells as their genetic blueprints.

Inspired by the Warburg effect, scientists have further developed a new way to diagnose cancer— positron emission tomography (PET).

It works by injecting the patient with a contrast agent (usually fluorinated deoxyglucose) and waiting an hour or so for the fluorinated deoxyglucose to enter the body’s metabolic system, at which point imaging scans are taken. When the glucose is concentrated in a certain area of the body, the image of that area will become brighter.

For example, when a patient is examined for pancreatic cancer, a normal pancreas does not light up on PET scans. However, when parts of the pancreas become brighter, it means that cancer is present.

A Diet High in Sugar Increases the Risk of Many Cancers

Cancer is not just one type of disease. It is a series of genetic or metabolic diseases caused by mitochondrial dysfunction of cells. Moreover, the organs or sites where cancer occurs are often places where the metabolism of the organisms is relatively vigorous.

Since cancer cells prefer glycolytic metabolism as their energy source, high consumption of sugar can lead to faster growth and spread of cancer. This explains why there is much epidemiological evidence that people with diabetes are more likely to develop cancer, especially breast, colon, prostate, liver, and pancreatic cancers.

A growing number of studies have found a direct correlation between sugar intake and increased cancer risk.

Sugar Restriction

Although we cannot completely cut out sugar and carbohydrates from our diet, we can prevent cancer by consuming sugar correctly.

Control the proportion of carbohydrates in the diet: Carbohydrates are a general term for monosaccharides, disaccharides, and polysaccharides (such as starch). After being consumed, starch is broken down into glucose.

Our body needs carbohydrates, but a diet high in sugar and carbohydrates is dangerous for both healthy people and cancer patients.

To reduce the incidence of cancer, we can use the “plate method” to control the proportion of carbohydrates in each meal.

With the plate method, a typical meal is represented by the amount of food on a plate. We should fill one quarter of the plate with carbohydrate foods, another quarter with protein, and the second half with vegetables (as low on the glycemic index as possible). In the middle of the plate, there can be foods rich in healthy fats, such as avocado.

Choose complex carbohydrates:  Complex carbohydrates are dietary fiber and starch. Starch, not easily digested by the body quickly, includes beans, whole grains, and sweet potatoes. They are not quickly converted into sugar in the body and are extremely rich in diverse nutrients.

Due to deep processing, the ratios of fiber, vitamins, minerals and protein in refined carbohydrates decrease. Once in the body, they are quickly broken down into large amounts of glucose. Typical refined carbohydrates include pasta and bread with fine flour, and baked goods, such as cakes and cookies.

We should eat fewer refined carbohydrates. We may want to replace half of our white rice with brown rice or mixed rice, replace white breads with whole wheat breads, or occasionally use steamed corn, sweet potatoes, pumpkins, or taros as staple foods.

We should limit our intake of sugar, especially refined sugar. It is better to eat low glycemic index fruits instead of drinking fruit juices. We should also avoid eating foods with high added sugar. If we want to add sugar to our food, we can replace white granulated sugar with natural sugar substitutes, such as stevia and monk fruit sweeteners. However, we shouldn’t use synthetic sweeteners as sugar substitutes, because they can damage the probiotics in our intestines and harm our health.

When cooking, we should use herbs and spices that have a hypoglycemic effect, such as fenugreek, onions, garlic, shallots, chives, cinnamon, bay leaves, and cloves.

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Charging Electric Vehicles At Night Could Make Power Grid Unstable

Leaving your electric car charging overnight to have it ready in the morning seems like a good idea in theory. But in reality, research suggests doing so does more harm in the long run. Stanford scientists say that it’s more costly to charge your electric car at night and it could stress out your local electric grid.

Instead, researchers suggest drivers should switch to charging their vehicle at work or in public charging stations. Another added benefit to charging in the daytime at a public station is that it reduces greenhouse gas emissions.

With the effects of climate change more apparent than ever—frequent forest fires, widespread flooding, and stronger hurricanes—car companies are expecting people to start investing in electric-powered cars in the future. For example, California residents are expected to buy more electric cars as the state is planning to ban sales of gasoline-powered cars and light trucks in 2035.

“We encourage policymakers to consider utility rates that encourage day charging and incentivize investment in charging infrastructure to shift drivers from home to work for charging,” says study’s co-senior author, Ram Rajagopal, an associate professor of civil and environmental engineering at Stanford University, in a statement..

So far, electric cars make up one million or 6% of automobile sales in California. The state’s goal is to increase that number to five million electric vehicles by 2030. However, the study authors say that the change from gas to electric will cause a strain in the electric grid when there’s 30% to 40% of cars on the road.

“We were able to show that with less home charging and more daytime charging, the Western U.S. would need less generating capacity and storage, and it would not waste as much solar and wind power,” explains Siobhan Powell, a doctor of mechanical engineering and lead study author. “And it’s not just California and Western states. All states may need to rethink electricity pricing structures as their EV charging needs increase and their grid changes.”

If half of vehicles in the western United States are electric, the team estimates it would take over 5.4 gigawatts of energy storage—equivalent to five large nuclear power reactors—to charge the cars. However, if people charged their electric cars at work instead of home, the electric demand is expected to go down to 4.2 gigawatts.

California currently uses time-of-use rates to encourage people to use electricity at night such as running the dishwasher and charging cars. However, the authors argue that with growing demand of electric cars, this strategy is outdated and will soon incur high demand with low supply. More specifically, the teams says if a third of homes were to charge their electric cars at 11 PM or whenever electricity rates go down, the local grid would become unstable.

“The findings from this paper have two profound implications: the first is that the price signals are not aligned with what would be best for the grid – and for ratepayers. The second is that it calls for considering investments in a charging infrastructure for where people work,” says Ines Azevedo, associate professor of energy science and engineering and co-senior author.

“We need to move quickly toward decarbonizing the transportation sector, which accounts for the bulk of emissions in California,” Azevedo adds. “This work provides insight on how to get there. Let’s ensure that we pursue policies and investment strategies that allow us to do so in a way that is sustainable.”

Biden Chases Windmills To Power America

The U.S. is making plans to boost its wind production to compete with other major players and become an international hub for the renewable energy source. The United States might be moving late, compared to major wind markets in Europe, but Biden is rapidly changing the face of the country’s wind energy sector, offering it the potential for rapid, widescale growth.  President Biden believes the U.S. could swiftly grow its wind power to rival that of Europe and Asia, which have both already established strong wind energy sectors over the past few decades. The government is now aiming for 15GW of floating offshore wind capacity by 2035. The White House recently released a statement saying, “The Biden-Harris Administration is launching coordinated actions to develop new floating offshore wind platforms, an emerging clean energy technology that will help the United States lead on offshore wind.”

This new aim builds upon Biden’s existing target of 30 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030, mainly coming from fixed-bottom installations. The government expects 15 GW could power over 5 million homes with clean energy. By investing heavily in the rollout of floating wind installations, the cost of the technology is expected to be reduced by around 70 percent by 2035, to $45 per megawatt-hour.

The floating wind turbine technology means that the installations can be installed in deeper water than the fixed-bottom versions. This would expand America’s wind potential by allowing energy companies to access wind resources in untapped waters. The Department of Energy (DoE) believes there are around 4.3 terawatts (4,300GW) of potential wind energy off the U.S. coastline, with only 1.5 terawatts available in areas where fixed-bottom turbines could be constructed.

While the U.S. is fairly new to the offshore wind game, in November 2021 ground was officially broken on the country’s “first commercial-scale offshore wind farm”, showing the potential for rapid growth in the sector. Annual electricity in consumption in the U.S. stands at around 3.9 trillion kilowatt-hours, meaning that the country’s wind energy potential could go a long way to meeting this demand.

Experts Warn of Carbon Monoxide Dangers Ahead of Hurricane Ian

As Florida and nearby states brace for the potential impact of Hurricane Ian, residents in the storm’s path should also think about the hazards they may face in its aftermath.

If high winds take out your electricity, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) offers tips for staying safe.

First, be cautious about using a generator. The carbon monoxide (CO) from a portable generator can kill someone in minutes. Each year about 85 Americans die from CO poisoning from portable generators, the CPSC estimates. Click here for tips on using one safely.

GARDENING, FARMING & HOMESTEADING

Plant Hardiness Zone Map

The USDA created a standard to which gardeners can use to determine which plants can survive in which locations.  This data is based on the average annual minimum winter temperature divided into 10 degree Fahrenheit zones.  This map was created in 2012 and is a great guide for gardeners to use to decide what plants they can grow and survive through the winter. The plant hardiness zones also determine whether a plant will be an annual or perennial in your area. Learn more about the difference between annuals vs perennials.

At Plant Addicts we do our best to list the most accurate data on each plant page. So make sure you look to see which zones a plant can grow in before ordering. You can bend the guidelines somewhat by planting in more sheltered areas, or if you live in a micro-climate. But we recommend using the plant growing zones as your guide to decide what to plant outside.

Health Officials Admit Bill Gates Runs the World

September 14, 2022, Politico published a special report based on four dozen interviews with U.S. and European officials and global health specialists, who admit Bill Gates is running the global COVID response

Four health organizations — The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, GAVI, the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) and the Wellcome Trust — rapidly took a lead on the global pandemic response, and while all four claim to be independent organizations, they’re all actually founded and/or funded by Gates

During the earliest days of the outbreak, the Gates Foundation, GAVI, CEPI and the Wellcome Trust began a coordinated effort to identify vaccine makers, fund tests, drug treatments and mRNA shots, and develop a global distribution plan in collaboration with the World Health Organization. In the end, they failed to meet their own goals on all fronts

Gates is unqualified to make health recommendations, and he’s never been elected to represent the public

Gates has used his wealth, influence and sheer shrewdness to get him into a position where he can dictate global health policy for his own financial benefit

BREAKING: Fauci’s Net Worth Soared To $12.6+ Million During Pandemic – Up $5 Million (2019-2021)

Last night, our auditors at OpenTheBooks.com received Dr. Anthony Fauci’s FY2021 financial disclosures from the National Institutes of Health.

The documents contain a wealth of previously unknown information. For example, the Fauci household’s net worth now exceeds $12.6 million – up $5 million from 2019 through 2021.

In January 2022, U.S. Senator Roger Marshall forced open Dr. Anthony Fauci’s unredacted FY2019 and 2020 financial disclosures. The release followed a heated Senate exchange between Fauci and Marshall that concluded with Fauci calling the senator a “moron.”

It was Fauci’s “code red moment” when America’s ‘top doctor’ melted down on national television in the Senate hearing. (When Marshall cited ‘Forbes,’ that was our research on Fauci’s financials published in my then-column at Forbes.)

It’s been a dogfight to open the books on the Fauci finances. For example, our organization has filed four federal lawsuits versus NIH to open the books.

Google Silences Women: YouTube Removes Laura Loomer Speech, Claiming ‘Misinformation’

Google-owned YouTube took down a video featuring Republican politician and activist Laura Loomer, claiming her speech, which referenced the issue of voter fraud, violated its policy on misinformation.

Loomer was the Republican candidate in Florida’s 21st district in the 2020 election, losing to Democrat incumbent Lois Frankel. More recently, she contested the Republican primary in Florida’s 11th district.

Her speech, now censored by YouTube, covered a wide range of topics including voter fraud and attacks on the GOP establishment. Loomer also discussed the need for an immigration moratorium in the United States.

“Misinformation” is a frequent pretext used by tech companies that suppress political viewpoints, as well as leftist media, academics, and activist organizations that support censorship. Concerns about voter fraud in the U.S. are regularly shut down by the Big Tech companies, as well as concerns about the efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines and the benefits of lockdown policies.
