Art made his first attempt for the U.S. Congress in 1984 for the 3rd Congressional District of Illinois, where he got 15% of the vote, and followed that up with a Chicago mayoral run, where he got knocked off the ballot on a minor technicality from an attorney hired by the GOP, and is now running again for the 3rd Congressional District of Illinois. Art won the GOP primary unopposed on March 20, 2018 and faces Democrat incumbent millionaire Dan Lipinski in the general election on November 6, 2018. Following Art’s primary victory, GOP party officials encouraged members not to vote for him, sabotaging his effort the same way they did—and do—to President Donald J. Trump. Art, a well-read, colorful character in the mold of Americans of yore, has been attacked by the corporate-controlled mainstream media in a way similar to their relentless attacks on President Trump.
