China will not accept US ‘theft’ of TikTok: State media

China Daily says pressure on ByteDance to sell US operations to Microsoft or risk closure amounts to a ‘smash and grab’.
Al Jazeera – China will not accept the United States’ “theft” of a Chinese technology company, state media said, adding that Beijing has ways to retaliate against Washington’s pressure on Chinese-owned app, TikTok.
The Trump administration’s pressuring of ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company in China, to sell its US operations to Microsoft or risk closure amounts to a “smash and grab”, the state-run China Daily newspaper wrote in an editorial on Tuesday.
While Beijing will likely be “cautious” in imposing equivalent restrictions on US companies in China, it has “plenty of ways” to retaliate, the paper said.
Microsoft said on Monday it was in discussions with ByteDance to buy parts of TikTok after US President Donald Trump gave the companies 45 days to reach a deal.
Trump has threatened to ban TikTok in the US on national security grounds by September 15, whether or not a deal with Microsoft is reached.
Coronavirus: Melbourne police ‘assaulted and baited’ over lockdown rules
BBC – Authorities in the Australian city of Melbourne have warned of a “dangerous” rise in people resisting lockdown measures, sometimes violently.
Police said this trend included so-called “sovereign citizens” – who espouse an anti-government ideology – confronting officers.
In one case a woman repeatedly smashed a policewoman’s head into the ground.
Authorities have increased fines for repeated rule breaches as Melbourne endures a deadly virus second wave.
More than half of Australia’s 18,300 cases have been recorded in the past month in Victoria, of which Melbourne is the capital. There have been 226 deaths nationally.
Melbourne has recently mandated wearing masks and tightened a stay-at-home order to reduce transmissions.
But authorities said many people were breaking rules, including some who claimed to be “above the law”.

Paris’ authorities plan to make mask-wearing mandatory in some outdoor areas – report

RT – Paris wants to make the wearing of face masks mandatory in certain outdoor areas in order to prevent a new spike of coronavirus infections, Le Monde daily wrote on Tuesday.
The newspaper said that mayor Anne Hidalgo would put in a formal request with the Paris prefecture about ordering the use of face coverings in specific areas. The government on Friday gave local authorities the power to order the wearing of masks in outdoor public spaces, Reuters said.
The outdoor areas targeted would be shopping streets, the banks of the river Seine, parks and gardens, open food markets and all areas where people have to stand in line, according to the report.

Report Finds 250 US Collaborations With Chinese Military-Tied Researchers

Epoch Times – The U.S. academic community has extensively collaborated with Chinese researchers affiliated with the Chinese military, jeopardizing national security, according to a new report.
Analysts at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University found 254 papers in which U.S. researchers collaborated with counterparts from seven top universities in China affiliated with the regime’s military, the People’s Liberation Army (PLA). The think tank identified 115 U.S. universities and government-backed research labs that worked with these PLA-linked organizations, collaborating on research topics from new energy technologies to aeronautical engineering.
The report released July 30 found instances where the Chinese researchers allegedly tried to conceal their ties to the defense institutes. Some Chinese coauthors also appeared to have worked in classified weapons programs, it said.
It concluded that such collaborations compromised national security because it allowed the PLA-linked institutions to “harvest U.S. S&T [science and technology] research at its source, and divert it to PRC [People’s Republic of China] defense research and weapons program development.”
“The risks to national security are serious since such diversions could erode or eliminate U.S. military superiority with lethal consequences in the event of an armed conflict,” it said.
Any collaboration with these defense universities boosted the regime’s “civil-military fusion” strategy—a military development plan that seeks to integrate private-sector innovations into the PLA’s industrial base, the report said. It added that research partnerships are contrary to U.S. national interest “even if the relevant research is unclassified, considered basic or fundamental, and is ultimately published in open sources.”
The findings came as the Trump administration ramps up efforts to counter Chinese state-sanctioned theft of American research. Last week, it ordered the closure of the Chinese consulate in Houston, accusing of it being a center for espionage. U.S. officials said consulate staff there were involved in numerous efforts over the years to recruit researchers at local biomedical institutions to join Chinese state-backed talent plans, which incentivized them to transfer U.S. intellectual property and know-how to China.
The justice department has also brought a spate of prosecutions against Chinese and American researchers for allegedly hiding their ties to Chinese talent plans and work for Chinese universities. Recently, at least four Chinese researchers were arrested and charged with visa fraud, with prosecutors alleging they were actually undercover PLA officers. The Federal Bureau of Investigation has interviewed suspected undercover officers in more than 25 cities.

Mark Levin: Arrest of peaceful anti-abortion protesters in DC is example of the left’s ‘totalitarian purification’

The two students were detained for writing in chalk ‘Black Pre-Born Lives Matter’
Fox – The recent arrest of two anti-abortion protesters in Washington, D.C., is an example of the “totalitarian purification” of America being engineered by the left, according to Mark Levin.
The two students were detained over the weekend after writing in chalk “Black Pre-Born Lives Matter” in front of a Planned Parenthood office, an act for which they reportedly had obtained a city permit.
Levin said he is proud of the people arrested, adding that it shows the First Amendment now essentially only applies to Democrat-endorsed messaging.
“It doesn’t apply to conservatives, it only applies to colleges and universities that radicalize their students and have radical groups, not to conservative speakers that might be invited on campus,” said the Fox News host on his “The Mark Levin Show on Westwood One” podcast.
“In many ways, the last two or three months, we’ve lost significant freedoms right under the First Amendment — freedom of speech freedom of association and freedom of the press. There is a totalitarian purification process going on and I’ve warned you about this for two decades that this day would come — and it’s here,” he added.

BODY CAM FOOTAGE SHOWS GEORGE FLOYD REPEATEDLY RESISTING ARREST

No wonder they waited so long to release the footage
Infowars – Long-awaited footage finally released Monday shows Black Lives Matter martyr George Floyd repeatedly refusing officers’ orders and resisting arrest during his final moments before he died at the hands of police.
The police body cam footage, which documents the crucial moments that led up to the 8-minute knee-on-neck video that sparked months of protests, starts with an officer approaching Floyd’s vehicle, tapping on the window, opening his door, and asking him to put his hands up, which Floyd appears reluctant to do even as the officer trains his gun on him.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” Floyd tells the officer, who continues to tell him to put his hands up. “Please, I didn’t do nothing. I didn’t do nothing,” he tells the officer.
When the officer tells Floyd to exit the vehicle, he begins sobbing and begging not to be shot claiming he was shot in a previous police encounter. Meanwhile, he stays put in the driver’s seat refusing multiple orders to get out.
After having much difficulty getting Floyd out of his car, police are finally able to handcuff him and place him against a wall, as they proceed to interview two passengers who were in the vehicle with him.
At this point, previously-released store surveillance footage appears to show Floyd dispose of small baggies appearing to contain white powder.
“Are you on something right now?” an officer asks Floyd as they hoist him to his feet. “Because you’re acting erratic.”
“No,” he responds.
Footage next shows Floyd being escorted across a street where he’s ordered to enter the back of a police SUV, but he resists efforts to be placed in the car, claiming he’s scared.
“I am claustrophobic, for real,” Floyd tells the officers, agreeing to enter the vehicle only if an officer stays with him.
But despite his assurances, Floyd continues to resist being put inside the vehicle and struggles against officers’ attempts to force him in, saying, “I’m going to go in. I’m going to go in. Why you don’t believe me officers? I’m not that kind of guy. I’m not that kind of guy. Please man. Y’all, I’m-a die in here.”
“Man, I don’t want y’all to win. I don’t want y’all to win. I don’t want to win,” Floyd says. “I’m claustrophobic and I have anxiety. I don’t want to do none of this.”
After still refusing to enter the vehicle, the footage shows an officer go around the other side of the transport to help pull Floyd in from the other side.
Floyd begins screaming erratically as police attempt to place him in the vehicle, then kicks his way out of the other side of the car, saying, “I’m-a lay on the ground.”
The rest of the footage, showing officer Derek Chauvin kneeling on Floyd’s neck for about eight minutes until he passes out, is what the media have chosen to focus in on.
While Floyd’s death is a clear-cut tragedy, the footage demonstrates he was behaving erratically and was non-compliant with officers’ demands, suggesting he may have survived the situation had he obeyed officers’ orders, rather than struggle against their repeated efforts to place him in custody.
Essentially, the footage destroys the left’s narrative that portrayed Floyd as an innocent saint. That’s why they waited so long to release it.

Trump Administration to Announce $35 Million Housing Grant for Trafficking Victims

Breitbart – The White House on Tuesday will announce a $35 million grant to help fund housing grants for victims of human trafficking.
The grants will be delivered by the Office for Victims of Crime, a component of the Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs. They will go to 73 different organizations across the country that offer housing assistance, transitional housing, and housing cost assistance.
“Shelter is the number one most requested service for all crisis cases on the national human trafficking hotline,” a senior administration official told reporters in a briefing including Breitbart News.
Attorney General William Barr will join a roundtable at the White House on human trafficking with Senior Advisor to the President Ivanka Trump, White House Special Adviser for Human Trafficking Heather Fischer, and leaders of organizations founded to help trafficking victims.
One official spoke to reporters about how Covid-19 lockdowns made it more difficult for victims to escape their traffickers and find shelter.
“We are hearing that many victims were living in quarantine with their traffickers,” the official said. “The anecdotal stories that we are hearing are horrific.”
Over 70 percent of victims of human trafficking who contacted the national trafficking hotline were born in the United States, the official noted.
“This is just another example of how the president is going to be empowering victims, empowering survivors, empowering these organizations that are providing this safe and stable environment,” an official said.

Seattle police chief implores council to do what is right after protesters visit her home

Police Chief Carmen Best has opposed efforts to defund the department by half
Fox – Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best is urging elected leaders to “stand up for what is right” after a group of protesters appeared outside her home over the weekend as pressures continue to mount over the enactment of police reform measures.
In a Monday letter to the nine-member City Council, Best said her home in Snohomish County was targeted Sunday night by “aggressive” protesters, prompting concerns from her neighbors. The crowd wasn’t able to trespass or engage in illegal behavior, Best said, despite their attempts to do so.
“These direct actions against elected officials, and especially civil servants like myself, are out of line with and go against every democratic principle that guides our nation,” she wrote. “Before this devolves into the new way of doing business by mob rule here in Seattle, and across the nation, elected officials like you must forcefully call for the end of these tactics.”
Protesters have held rallies outside the homes of several city leaders — including Mayor Jenny Durkan —  in recent weeks in an effort to spearhead the slashing of the Seattle Police Department budget by half. In addition to the gatherings, some council members have seen offensive messages written outside their residences.
The council is in discussions to cut the police budget, with several proposals being considered. One measure would result in the laying off of as many as 100 police officers.

Trump claims right to issue executive order on vote-by-mail

Politico – President Donald Trump on Monday claimed to have the authority to issue an executive order addressing the expected influx of mail-in voting in the November election and said he hadn’t ruled out doing so, in spite of the Constitution’s expressly giving states the right to run their elections.
“I have the right to do it,” Trump insisted, adding: “We haven’t got there yet, but we’ll see what happens.”
President Donald Trump on Monday claimed to have the authority to issue an executive order addressing the expected influx of mail-in voting in the November election and said he hadn’t ruled out doing so, in spite of the Constitution’s expressly giving states the right to run their elections.
“I have the right to do it,” Trump insisted, adding: “We haven’t got there yet, but we’ll see what happens.”
Trump made the assertion during a coronavirus briefing at the White House when pressed by a reporter from OAN, the far-right network that has been a vocal ally of the president, and as part of a broader tirade against mail-in voting amid a push to expand the practice during the coronavirus pandemic.

Isaias Spawns Deadly Tornado, Burns Homes in North Carolina, Knocks Out Power to Hundreds of Thousands

The Weather Channel – Tropical Storm Isaias flooded cars and homes, knocked out power to hundreds of thousands and spawned deadly and destructive tornadoes from the Carolinas into Virginia and Maryland Tuesday morning.
The storm made landfall at 11:10 p.m. Monday at the South Carolina-North Carolina border as a Category 1 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 85 mph. It was racing toward the northeast, and tropical storm warnings were raised as far north as Maine.
One person was killed, three others missing and at least 20 injured Tuesday when a tornado scoured a mobile home park overnight in Windsor, North Carolina, Bertie County Commission Chair Ron Wesson told WITN. Aerial video from WRAL showed debris scattered over several hundred yards.
Bertie County Sheriff John Hadley told WRAL the scene was the worst thing he had seen in his 38 years with the department.
“It’s bad,” Hadley said. “It doesn’t look real, it looks like something on TV. Nothing is there.”
He said at least 10 homes were destroyed, and one is blocked by a tree. First responders are searching for the missing people.
“All my officers are down there at this time,” Hadley said. “Pretty much the entire trailer park is gone.”
Two people were reportedly injured by a possible tornado that severely damaged several homes near White Stone, Virginia, on the Chesapeake Bay. Possible tornadoes damaged homes and overturned a vehicle in Maryland, also.
More than 750,000 homes and businesses were without electricity as of 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to poweroutage.us. More than 336,000 were in Virginia and over 275,000 were in North Carolina. Maryland had more than 56,000 outages.

Your Phone Is Spying On You, And Companies Are Generating Secret “Surveillance Scores” Based On That Information

Michael Snyder – Nothing that you do on your phone is private.  In this day and age, most of us have become extremely dependent on our phones, and most Americans never even realize that these extremely sophisticated little devices are gathering mountains of information on each one of us.  Your phone knows what you look like, it knows the sound of your voice, it knows where you have been, it knows where you have shopped, it knows your Internet searches and it knows what you like to do in your free time.  In fact, your phone literally knows thousands of things about you, and all of that information is bought and sold every single day without you knowing.  And as you will see below, there are lots of companies out there that use information collected from our phones to create secret “surveillance scores” that are used for a whole host of alarming purposes.
It is really important to understand that your phone is a surveillance device.  The reason why the advertisements on your phone seem so perfectly tailored for you is because of all the information that your phone has gathered on you previously.
To this day, many people are still amazed when they see an ad pop up for something that they were just talking with a friend about, but that doesn’t happen by accident.  The following comes from Fox News
Perhaps you’ve been talking to a friend about an island vacation, when suddenly deals for the Maldives or Hawaii pop up on your Facebook feed. Or you are talking to your co-worker about yard renovations when advertisements for lawnmowers litter your Twitter, or maybe you were talking about why you stopped drinking and a random sponsored article about the growing trend of “elective sobriety” is suddenly in front of your eyes.
Industry experts insist that our phones are not actively “eavesdropping” on us, but they do admit that our phones are “actually spying on us” in other ways…
“It’s easy to feel like our phone is spying on us. It is actually spying on us, but it is not eavesdropping,” Alex Hamerstone, Government, Risk and Compliance practice lead at information technology security firm, TrustedSec, told Fox News via email. “The reason why we see ads pop up that seem to be correlated to the exact thing we were just talking about is because technology and marketing companies gather extensive amounts of personal and behavioral data on us, but it’s not from eavesdropping — it’s from surfing the web, shopping, posting on social media, and other things people do online.”
Most Americans have come to accept targeted ads as a part of life, but what most people don’t realize is that the information our phones gather is being used for far more intrusive purposes.
“Surveillance scores” are being created, and these “surveillance scores” seem quite similar to the “social credit scores” that China has been compiling since 2014.
In China, if you do good things like paying your taxes or taking a parent to the doctor, your social credit score will go up.
But there are also lots of things that will cause your social credit score to go down…
It aims to punish for transgressions that can include membership in or support for the Falun Gong or Tibetan Buddhism, failure to pay debts, excessive video gaming, criticizing the government, late payments, failing to sweep the sidewalk in front of your store or house, smoking or playing loud music on trains, jaywalking, and other actions deemed illegal or unacceptable by the Chinese government.
And if your social credit score gets too low, the consequences can be quite dramatic
Punishments can be harsh, including bans on leaving the country, using public transportation, checking into hotels, hiring for high-visibility jobs, or acceptance of children to private schools. It can also result in slower internet connections and social stigmatization in the form of registration on a public blacklist.
Here in the United States, private companies are doing something very similar.  Information collected from our phones is being used to create secret “surveillance scores”, and selling those scores has become very big business.  The following comes from the Houston Chronicle
Operating in the shadows of the online marketplace, specialized tech companies you’ve likely never heard of are tapping vast troves of our personal data to generate secret “surveillance scores” – digital mug shots of millions of Americans – that supposedly predict our future behavior. The firms sell their scoring services to major businesses across the U.S. economy.
And just like China’s system, high scores come with rewards and low scores come with punishments.
For example, your scores can determine whether or not someone will rent a property to you, whether or not you will be hired for a job, and even how long you will have to wait for customer service
CoreLogic and TransUnion say that scores they peddle to landlords can predict whether a potential tenant will pay the rent on time, be able to “absorb rent increases,” or break a lease. Large employers use HireVue, a firm that generates an “employability” score about candidates by analyzing “tens of thousands of factors,” including a person’s facial expressions and voice intonations. Other employers use Cornerstone’s score, which considers where a job prospect lives and which web browser they use to judge how successful they will be at a job.
Brand-name retailers purchase “risk scores” from Retail Equation to help make judgments about whether consumers commit fraud when they return goods for refunds. Players in the gig economy use outside firms such as Sift to score consumers’ “overall trustworthiness.” Wireless customers predicted to be less profitable are sometimes forced to endure longer customer service hold times.
To me, all of this is extremely creepy.
Eventually, it may get to a point where you are basically a societal outcast if you are not willing to conform to a particular set of politically-correct standards, values and behaviors.
You may not get thrown in jail the moment you do something “unacceptable”, but your phone will be watching you every step of the way.

Trump Vaccine Adviser Warns That Scrutiny Of Him Will Delay Arrival Of Coronavirus Vaccine

HHS assistant secretary Michael Caputo went even further, arguing the media doesn’t want a vaccine to succeed before the election. “I believe that all the way in my aorta.”
Buzzfeed- The chief adviser to Operation Warp Speed, the Trump administration’s program investing billions of dollars into discovering a coronavirus vaccine, says media scrutiny of his stock ownership may delay a vaccine or make its discovery less likely because it is distracting him from his work.
Moncef Slaoui made the remarks on the official Health and Human Services podcast, released Friday, while being interviewed by Michael Caputo, HHS assistant secretary of public affairs. The interview quickly descended into a lengthy rant about the media.
“The American people need to understand that the media often times are lying to them because they don’t want a vaccine, in order to defeat Donald Trump,” Caputo said at one point.
The two men took extensive issue with news stories about Slaoui. He is working as a contractor voluntarily, drawing payment of only $1. As news reports have outlined, this exempts him from ethics rules that would apply to federal employees.
Slaoui worked for 30 years in senior roles at pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline. He still holds significant stock in the company. The HHS inspector general ruled that he can continue to own stock in the pharmaceutical industry and is exempt from disclosure rules that would apply if he joined the government.
After introductions, the podcast interview pivoted to the media’s treatment of Slaoui. Caputo said that by joining Operation Warp Speed, Slaoui put a target on his back. Slaoui agreed and said he was naive. He said the media attention has distracted him and hurt the development of a vaccine.

Turns out ‘love-hormone’ Oxytocin may be secret weapon against Alzheimer’s

RT – The so-called “love hormone” oxytocin may normally be associated with memory impairment but new research indicates it might stave off at least some of the amnesic effects of Alzheimer’s disease.
The hormone oxytocin is known to have varying effects in people, in which it either strengthens or weakens a person’s memory, depending on their personality and genetic makeup.
Post-mortem examinations of people with Alzheimer’s disease found increased levels of oxytocin in memory-related areas of their brain, showing at least some link between the love hormone, memory and one of the most grim neurodegenerative diseases humans face.
People with Alzheimer’s experience a buildup of a toxic form of a peptide called beta-amyloid, the non-toxic form of which is believed to regulate, protect and repair the central nervous system.
The peptide’s toxic form, however, can form plaques on the brain which can, in turn, kill neurons and cause memory loss. Even short-lived exposure to this toxic form can trigger the brain’s own immune system and can cause it to harm neurons rather than protecting them.
This entire immune response can disrupt synaptic plasticity, the mechanism responsible for our ability to both learn and remember.
In a new study, researchers explored this nexus of memory, love hormone and neurodegenerative disease by treating male mice brains with toxic beta-amyloid to confirm the peptide’s negative effects on the aforementioned synaptic plasticity.
They then treated additional brain samples from the same set with a combination of toxic beta-amyloid and oxytocin, and found that the negative impacts of the beta-amyloid were stopped by the oxytocin.
However, when treated with just oxytocin, the researchers observed no effect on synaptic plasticity.
In other words, oxytocin itself cannot prevent or reverse cognitive issues associated with Alzheimer’s on its own, as there is a multitude of factors that lead to overall cognitive decline in a variety of different ways that extend beyond the formation of plaques from accumulation of toxic beta-amyloid.
It does, however, show early promise for mitigating some of the nastiest effects of Alzheimer’s disease, should the research findings be replicable in future clinical trials

Transient vs. Resident Probiotics: What’s the Difference?

Dr. Edward Group – The popularity of probiotics is soaring, and for good reason: the tiny microorganisms living in your gut have a huge impact on your health.[1] But did you know that there are two different kinds of probiotic supplements? They are called resident and transient strains.
If you are wondering about the difference, resident strains set up home in your gut, and are the ones you most commonly hear of, like the Lactobacillus acidophilus found in yogurt. So-called transient strains are temporary visitors that pass through the gastrointestinal system, though they can stay for a couple of weeks. Transient probiotics target harmful organisms in your gut, destroying them, and allowing them to leave your body as waste.
One strain of transient probiotic, Brevibacillus laterosporus (B. laterosporus), targets yeast and fungus, like Candida. Candida albicans overgrowth can cause a host of unpleasant symptoms, from yeast infections to brain fog to fatigue. Using B. laterosporus or another transient probiotic during a cleanse — or for daily support — can help restore your gut balance and your overall health and wellness.
Transient vs. Resident Probiotics
As mentioned, probiotic supplements include resident and transient strains. Resident probiotics are strains of bacteria, bacteriophages, or fungi, or other microbes that will colonize your intestinal tract. They form part of your gut flora ecosystem or microbiome. Transient strains, on the other hand, pass through the gut but do not set up shop. In other words, they pass through within two to three weeks — but not without providing some benefits .
Many of your body’s resident microbes established themselves in your gut during infancy and early childhood. Babies get them from their mother, but young children also get them from putting things in their mouth, as toddlers tend to do. These microbes remain your gut gatekeepers throughout life, though the ecosystem can change for better or worse due to on diet, illness, and other issues.[5] Regularly consuming probiotic foods and supplements can help defend against harmful microorganisms that may make you feel unwell.[6, 7]
When transient probiotic strains like Brevibacillus laterosporus pass through the gut, they target harmful organisms in your body, including Candida albicans. Candida is a yeast that normally occurs in the digestive tract but can easily grow out of control. Candida overgrowth is common in people who eat too much sugar or simple carbohydrates like white bread, pasta, and the like. Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) can also be a concern. The best way to deter or get rid of Candida or SIBO is to change your diet.
If you have a diet high in meat, sugar, or gluten, your gut will contain unwelcome guests. You can help shift the balance with a colon cleanse. B. laterosporus can help during a cleanse by targeting these harmful organisms. Think of transient bacteria like tourists; they come for a short period only, and while they’re visiting, they give the local economy a boost.
The best long-term solution to gut issues is to eat a healthy diet — preferably plant-based, gluten-free, and with as many organic whole foods as possible. Fermented and probiotic foods play a vital role in keeping your gut microbes balanced.[1, 8]
What Is the Best Transient Probiotic?
Different types of probiotics have different effects on the body. Brevibacillus laterosporus is one of the best transient probiotic supplements around. Found in soil, freshwater, and seawater around the world, this bacteria is best known for its ability to temper fungal overgrowth.[9] It’s especially helpful during cleanses for detoxification and encourages balance throughout your digestive system and body.
Global Healing’s Latero-Flora™ probiotic supplement contains just this single strain — Brevibacillus laterosporus. Once B. laterosporus enters the body, it deters harmful organisms, resetting the balance, and allowing the helpful resident strains to take back over.[9] B. laterosporus bacteria stimulate the immune system and guard against unfriendly organisms.
