Founder of Crypto Firm FTX Sam Bankman-Fried Arrested in Bahamas

The Bahamas attorney general’s office on Monday announced the arrest of former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried pending extradition to the United States, weeks after the cryptocurrency exchange collapsed.

U.S. Attorney Damian Williams confirmed the arrest at the request of the U.S. government in a statement on Twitter.

“Earlier this evening, Bahamian authorities arrested Samuel Bankman-Fried at the request of the U.S. Government, based on a sealed indictment filed by the SDNY,” Williams said, referring to the Southern District of New York. “We expect to move to unseal the indictment in the morning and will have more to say at that time.”

Bankman-Fried, 30, was arrested after the United States notified the Bahamas attorney general’s office that it had filed criminal charges against the young former crypto billionaire and would likely request extradition. It’s unclear what charges he’ll face.

Bahamas Attorney General Sen. Ryan Pinder said that Bankman-Fried had been arrested and detained under the Bahamas Extradition Act.

“At such time as a formal request for extradition is made, The Bahamas intends to process it promptly, pursuant to Bahamian law and its treaty obligations with the United States,” Pinder said in a statement.

Bahamas Prime Minister Philip Davis said that the Bahamas and the United States share a common interest in holding responsible those people affiliated with FTX who may have betrayed the public trust and broken the law.

US Sanctions CCP Official for Persecuting Falun Gong

The United States has sanctioned a Chinese official for his role in persecuting Falun Gong, which the ruling communist regime in China has been targeting in an unrelenting eradication campaign for more than 23 years.

Tang Yong, formerly a deputy director of the Chongqing Area Prisons in southwestern China, is now designated as a gross human rights violator, which bars him and his immediate family from entering the United States.

The State Department said that Tang had been responsible for “gross violations of human rights, namely arbitrary detention of Falun Gong practitioners, which also amount to particularly severe violations of religious freedom.”

There’s little other information available about Tang from the State Department sanction sheet—which targets a long list of individuals engaged in corruption or human rights abuses—that was released on Dec. 9, the eve of Human Rights Day.

“All persons have these rights and should be free to exercise them, without discrimination, no matter what they believe, whom they love, or where they live,” Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a Dec. 9 statement.

“All means all.”

Lawsuit Filed After Children Stopped Eating and Sleeping to Play ‘Fortnite’

A Superior Court judge in Quebec, Canada, has authorized a lawsuit by parents from the region against Epic Games and its Canadian subsidiary, blaming the company for making children addicted to “Fortnite.”

According to the three parents who filed the lawsuit (pdf), their children showed symptoms of severe dependence after playing “Fortnite,” including forgoing showering, eating, and sleeping. They insisted that the game was deliberately made to be highly addictive. In his ruling, Justice Sylvain Lussier decided that the parents’ request for a class-action lawsuit “does not appear frivolous or manifestly ill-founded,” according to Global News. The court concluded that there is a “serious issue to be argued.”

One child played over 7,700 times in two years, with a minimum of three hours a day spent on the game. Another child, who played 6,923 games, got angry after the parents tried to restrict his gaming activities, even going so far as to put a lock on his computer.

Though the judge rejected the claim of “deliberate creation of an addictive game,” he allowed the possibility that the game is “in fact addictive” and that its developers and distributors are “presumed” to have known about it.

The company’s lawyers argued that video game dependence is not recognized as a condition in Quebec, and that it has not been classified as a unique mental disorder by the American Psychiatric Association.

Second Reporter Dies While Covering the World Cup in Qatar

A second sports journalist has died in Qatar while covering the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The Gulf Times initially reported the death of Qatari photojournalist Khalid al-Misslam who they say “died suddenly” over the weekend, Fox Sports reported.

Iranian soccer player sentenced to death after protesting against the death of Mahsa Amini

An Iranian professional soccer player has been sentenced to death after protesting against the death of Mahsa Amini, according to Iran Wire.

Amir Nasr-Azadani, 26, was arrested in November in relation to the killing of a police colonel and two volunteer militia members.

He has been accused of “waging war against God” and will be hanged, according to Iran Wire.

FIFPRO, the international soccer players union, said in a statement on Monday that it was “shocked and sickened” by the news.

“We stand in solidarity with Amir and call for the immediate removal of his punishment,” it said.

IMF agrees to Ghana $3bn debt bailout

On my last flight I was searching for a seat and a kind woman who appeared to recognize me, smiled at an open seat next to her. I sat down and learned she is married to a prominent government official with whom she was traveling. As we talked she told me her story of taking one of the mRNA COVID-19 vaccines and then developing membranous nephropathy.

This is a disorder caused by auto-antibodies directed against the phospholipase A2 receptor on podocytes, which are critical cells in the kidney’s filtration apparatus. Membranous nephropathy like so many side effects is due to the Spike protein and can occur with SARS-CoV-2 infection and with vaccination.

Ma and coworkers recently described five cases with the infection and 37 more after COVID-19 vaccination—all with the genetic vaccines except for one with a killed virus vaccine.

The woman developed significant edema and renal failure requiring escalating treatment including rituximab. More than a year later, she is not out of the woods and may face the need for dialysis in the future. She told me her doctor was honest with her and agreed her condition was caused by the vaccine.

While the majority of cases reported by Ma et al had partial recoveries, the prognosis remains uncertain. I was delighted to see this woman sitting with her husband in the gallery of the Kennedy Caucus Room at the recent US Senate Roundtable chaired by Senator Ron Johnson on December 7, 2022.

UK endures worst strikes in a decade

Official figures show a sharp rise in the number of working days lost over labor disputes

The UK has been experiencing its most widespread public-sector strikes in more than a decade, data released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) on Tuesday shows. In October alone, 417,000 working days in the public sector were lost.

This was overshadowed only by November 2011, when nearly a million workers walked out over austerity measures. The October figure dramatically outpaced the 209,000 registered in September, when some labor actions were postponed due to the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

The five-month period of June-October saw more than 1.1 million working days lost, the most in the UK since 1990. The figures are expected to grow even further, as strikes have continued throughout Britain in recent weeks, with a further 40,000 railway workers beginning their latest round of walkouts on Tuesday.

The latest ONS figures also revealed a record-breaking wage disparity between public- and private-sector workers. In the three-month period to October, the wages of some 5.8 million state workers grew only by 2.7%, while those in the private sector enjoyed a rise of around 6.9%.

US-Africa Leaders Summit: Biden to Announce Support for African Union’s Admission to G20?

Certainly it can be described as an irreversible historical landmark as United States President Joseph R. Biden Jr. and his administration are set to renew their commitments and hold discussions relating to the global economy, democracy and governance, climate change, health and security, women, youth and education during the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit scheduled for December 13-15 in Washington.

According to various authentic reports monitored by the Modern Diplomacy, Biden is expected to announce American support for the African Union’s admission to G-20 as a permanent member. By joining the G-20, it would enable Africa the chance to discuss more forcefully pertinent issues, existing challenges and possible ways to achieve its sustainable development across Africa.

The G-20 members include Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Britain, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the United States, and the European Union. Our careful and systematic monitoring has also revealed that out of 55 African countries, South Africa is the only member of the group from the continent.

Therefore, Biden and his administration’s latest push further for ultimate ascension is highly appreciable. This final significant move comes after African Union Chair and Presidents of Senegal and South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa and Macky Sall, humbly requested Biden to expand their participation in the G-20.

White House reports say Biden has not scheduled one-on-one meeting with any of the 50 African leaders attending the U.S.-Africa Leaders’ Summit and has not invited Western Sahara, Eritrea, Somaliland, Sudan, Guinea, Mali and Burkina Faso.

Ilhan Omar defends Qatar’s slavery while trashing America (again)

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) hasn’t made the news for trashing the United States in some time, so she decided the World Cup was the perfect opportunity to return to her favorite habit. In the process, she decided to defend Qatar’s use of slave labor.

Omar, along with Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT), attended the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and spoke about the balance between human rights concerns and enjoying one of the greatest sports spectacles in the world. Murphy focused his comments on foreign policy, noting that Qatar is an “imperfect partner” but that “in many ways, they are our best partner in the region.” Omar took a noticeably different tact.

Kari Lake, Abe Hamadeh, Mark Finchem Formally Contest Arizona Election Results

Three Republican nominees for state government positions in Arizona have filed lawsuits to formally contest the results of their midterm election races that saw their Democratic opponents win.

Kari Lake, running for governor, Abe Hamadeh, running for attorney general, and Mark Finchem, running for secretary of state, filed separate lawsuits on Dec. 9 after the state’s top officials on Dec. 5 certified Arizona’s election results in most races.

Candidates have five days following certification to formally contest election results in court.

Vote Recount Flips Massachusetts Midterm Race From Republican to Democrat by 1 Vote

A recount of votes in a Massachusetts state House of Representatives race has placed a Democratic challenger ahead of a Republican incumbent by a single vote after the latter was initially leading following the Nov. 8 elections.

Democrat Kristin Kassner, a first-time candidate, is now leading her Republican opponent Lenny Mirra in the race for the newly redrawn North Shore district, a coastal region between Boston and New Hampshire.

Prior to the recount, Mirra, a five-term Republican, had led Kassner by 10 votes out of the 24,155 votes that were cast across the district, according to the original certified results from Election Day.

However, the 10-vote margin is within the legal threshold that allows for a recount, and Kassner later submitted a petition asking for a district-wide recount of the Nov. 8 election.

Secretary of State Bill Galvin agreed to the hand recount, which was ordered on Nov. 30, as well as another in the First Middlesex District race.

After officials recounted the votes on Dec. 8, the results flipped to put Kassner up 11,763 votes to Mirra’s 11,762.

Kassner picked up a total of 19 additional votes, including 10 in Ipswich, four in Rowley, three in Topsfield, one vote in Newbury, and one vote in Georgetown, according to data provided by Galvin’s office (pdf). Mirra, meanwhile, added five votes in Ipswich, three in Topsfield, and one in Newbury.

The Republican candidate also lost a single vote in Rowley, according to the data.

Politicians Make New Attempt to Ban Supplements

Proposed legislation is calling for a federal database for dietary supplements, which requires supplement makers to submit information to the FDA

Known as mandatory product listing (MPL) for dietary supplements, supporters claim it’s a way for the FDA to know what products are on the market and what ingredients they include

Opponents suggest the move, which is redundant and burdensome for small supplement companies, could ultimately give the FDA more power to ban supplements from the market

MPL could pave the way for the FDA to gain premarket approval power — changing access to supplements as we know it

Multinational companies like Bayer, Nestle, Unilever, Proctor & Gamble and Clorox have also been buying up supplement companies at a frenzied pace. In 2018, there were 83 such transactions; this rose to 137 in 2021

Lies Surrounding the Ukraine War

Jeffrey Sachs, a professor of economics who’s been involved in diplomacy in more than 100 countries for decades, spoke to Russell Brand, an English comedian and actor, about lies surrounding the Ukraine War

Extreme censorship has silenced any open discussion that goes against the official narrative on the war in Ukraine

The mainstream media is clear in its message that the Ukraine war is the result of an unprovoked and unjustified invasion, but there’s a history to it

Western officials and media have by and large blamed Russia for blowing up the Nord Stream pipelines, but the other side to the story suggests the U.S. did it

Leftist Lobbying Groups Receive over $6 Million in Taxpayer Funds

A bombshell investigation found that at least $6.6 million in taxpayer dollars went to leftist organizations in San Diego that engage in lobbying, issue advocacy, and other political activities.

Taxpayer funds went to at least ten different leftist organizations in San Diego county that are engaged in political activities, the report from The Transparency Foundation (TF) found. These organizations received a mix of local, state, and federal funding.

SEC charges Bankman-Fried for alleged ‘massive, years-long fraud’

SEC action against FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried is separate from charges from federal prosecutors in Southern District of New York

The Securities and Exchange Commission announced they have brought charges against Samuel Bankman-Fried for allegedly violating the Securities Act and the Securities Exchange Act.

The complaint, filed Tuesday, accuses Bankman-Fried of carrying out “a scheme to defraud equity investors in FTX Trading Ltd,” his cryptocurrency trading platform. The court filing describes the alleged operation as “a massive, years-long fraud, diverting billions of dollars of the trading platform’s customer funds for his own personal benefit and to help grow his crypto empire.”

The SEC complaint details allegations that Bankman-Fried took funds from customers and diverted them to Alameda Research LLC, his crypto hedge fund, and used the money for personal purposes including buying real estate and making political contributions.

“Throughout this period, Bankman-Fried portrayed himself as a responsible leader of the crypto community,” the complaint says. “He touted the importance of regulation and accountability. He told the public, including investors, that FTX was both innovative and responsible. Customers around the world believed his lies, and sent billions of dollars to FTX, believing their assets were secure on the FTX trading platform.”

‘House Of Cards’: SEC Lawsuit Alleges Bankman-Fried’s Multibillion-Dollar Fraud On FTX Began ‘From The Start’

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) charged Sam Bankman-Fried, former CEO of cryptocurrency exchange FTX and billionaire Democratic donor, on Tuesday for allegedly orchestrating a conspiracy to defraud billions from investors on FTX’s trading platform.

Bankman-Fried, who was arrested Monday by Bahamian authorities pending a formal extradition request by U.S. prosecutors, used billions of dollars in investors’ funds to prop up Alameda Research, a trading house founded by Bankman-Fried, when crypto prices crashed in May 2022, the SEC alleged in a lawsuit. Meanwhile, Bankman-Fried allegedly made “false and misleading” statements that customers’ assets were secure and that Alameda was afforded “no special privileges” on the FTX exchange.

US Household Wealth Sees Second-Fastest Decline Since 1959

Household wealth in the United States fell by its second-fastest pace in history in the first three quarters of the year, but was buoyed by a positive performance in real estate, according to a Dec. 9 report by the U.S. Federal Reserve.

“The net worth of households and nonprofit organizations declined $0.4 trillion to $143.3 trillion in the third quarter. The value of stocks on the household balance sheet declined by $1.9 trillion, while the value of real estate increased by $0.7 trillion,” according to the Financial Accounts of the United States – Z.1 report.

Overall, there has been a net worth decline of about $6.84 trillion in the first three quarters of 2022, compared to the $18.78 trillion gain in 2021 and the $14.80 trillion in growth in 2020.

However, once inflation is accounted for, the loss of real wealth during the first three quarters stands twice as large at $13.5 trillion in current dollars, according to an analysis by MarketWatch. The 8.6 percent tumble in real worth in the three quarters is the second-fastest decline on record since 1959, surpassed only by the fall seen during the financial crisis of 2008–09.

The fall in household wealth coincides with a decrease in personal savings rate. Between January and October this year, the personal savings rate has more than halved, from 4.7 to 2.3 percent, according to data from the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. Last year, it peaked at 26.3 percent in March.

Annualized inflation has remained at or above 7.5 percent for each month of 2022.

Inflation Cools More Than Expected

Consumer prices inched higher in November, far less than expected, data from the Department of Labor showed on Tuesday.

The consumer price index rose just 0.1 percent compared with a month earlier. Analysts had forecast a 0.3 percent rise in CPI following the 0.4 percent a month earlier.

Compared with a year ago, the index is up 7.1 percent, the smallest year-over-year rise since December 2021.

Excluding food and energy prices, so-called core CPI rose 0.2 percent after rising 0.3 percent a month earlier. Compared with a year ago, core prices are up six percent. The energy index increased 13.1 percent for the 12 months ending November, and the food index increased 10.6 percent over the last year.

Digital Currency: The Fed Moves Toward Monetary Totalitarianism

The Federal Reserve is sowing the seeds for its central bank digital currency (CBDC). It may seem that the purpose of a CBDC is to facilitate transactions and enhance economic activity, but CBDCs are mainly about more government control over individuals. If a CBDC were implemented, the central bank would have access to all transactions in addition to being capable of freezing accounts.

It may seem dystopian—something that only totalitarian governments would do—but there have been recent cases of asset freezing in Canada and Brazil. Moreover, a CBDC would give the government the power to determine how much a person can spend, establish expiration dates for deposits, and even penalize people who saved money.

The war on cash is also a reason why governments want to implement CBDCs. The end of cash would mean less privacy for individuals and would allow central banks to maintain a monetary policy of negative interest rates with greater ease (since individuals would be unable to withdraw money commercial banks to avoid losses).

Once the CBDC arrives, instead of a deposit being a commercial bank’s liability, a deposit would be the central bank’s liability.

In 2020, China launched a digital yuan pilot program. As mentioned by Seeking Alpha, China wants to implement a CBDC because “this would give [the government] a remarkable amount of information about what consumers are spending their money on.”

The government could easily track digital payments with a CBDC. Bloomberg noted in an article published when the digital yuan pilot program was launched that the digital currency “offers China’s authorities a degree of control never possible with cash.” A CBDC could allow the Chinese government to monitor mobile app purchases (which accounted for about 16 percent of the country’s gross domestic product in 2020) more closely. Bloomberg describes how much control a CBDC could give Chinese authorities:

The PBOC [People’s Bank of China] has also indicated that it could put limits on the sizes of some transactions, or even require an appointment to make large ones. Some observers wonder whether payments could be linked to the emerging social-credit system, wherein citizens with exemplary behavior are “whitelisted” for privileges, while those with criminal and other infractions find themselves left out.

Elon Musk’s Twitter to Relaunch ‘Twitter Blue’ Feature Today – With Higher Prices on iPhones

Elon Musk’s Twitter is set to relaunch its “Twitter Blue” feature today which will bring a number of changes to the company’s verification badge system. Along with some changes to its system, users who sign up via Apple iOS devices will pay a higher subscription price to account for the tech giant’s 30% “app tax.”

Mashable reports that Twitter recently announced in a tweet that it will relaunch Twitter Blue on December 12. The relaunch was previously delayed as the company tried to find a way to avoid paying Apple’s 30 percent fee on in-app purchases. As a result of the fee, Twitter will now charge $8 per month on the web and $11 through its iPhone app so Apple’s “app tax” doesn’t bite into profits.

White House defends Fauci from Musk

Twitter owner saying Biden’s Covid czar should be prosecuted is “dangerous and disgusting,” press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre notes

The US government has come to the defense of President Joe Biden’s Covid-19 czar, saying that Dr. Anthony Fauci is a paragon of public service and that Elon Musk’s suggestions that the octogenarian bureaucrat should be prosecuted are dangerous “personal attacks” divorced from reality.

The Tesla and SpaceX magnate took over Twitter in October and has been sharing details of the platform’s operations under the previous management. Teasing revelations about the pandemic-related censorship, Musk tweeted on Saturday that his pronouns are “Prosecute/Fauci.” The post went beyond viral, garnering more than 1.2 million likes so far – and attracting the attention of White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.

“These attacks, these personal attacks that we have been seeing, are dangerous – on Dr. Fauci and other public health professionals as well. They are disgusting, and they are divorced from reality,” Jean-Pierre told reporters on Monday.

Fauci has “given his almost entire career to civil service, public service, as a public servant. His work on infectious disease, from HIV/AIDS to Covid, has saved countless lives,” said Jean-Pierre, and America is fortunate he has devoted “his exceptional talent” to public health. “And that’s what should be discussed right now,” she concluded.

Smoking banned nationally for future generations

New Zealand has prohibited the selling of tobacco products to people born after January 2009

A bill that bans those currently aged 14 or under from ever buying tobacco has been approved by New Zealand’s parliament. The move comes as part of the nation’s campaign to phase out smoking in just three years.

The new law, which was passed by the legislature on Tuesday, prohibits ever selling smoking tobacco products to anyone born on or after January 1, 2009. Violations will be punishable by a fine of up to 150,000 New Zealand dollars ($140,000).

The idea behind the law is to steadily increase the minimum age for purchasing cigarettes. The new restrictions do not apply to vaping, however.

The measure also introduces severe cuts to the number of retail stores that can sell tobacco, scaling it back tenfold from around 6,000 to 600, and also decreases the amount of nicotine legally allowed in tobacco products.

Air Purifiers Boost Heart Health in People With COPD

Having COPD can make it hard to breathe as it taxes both the lungs and the heart, but a new study offers a possible solution: Using an air purifier helped patients’ hearts work better.

Researchers found that when people with COPD, also known as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, consistently used air purifiers, their hearts were better able to adapt their heart rates in response to daily demands, something known as heart rate variability (HRV). HRV is a key measure of overall heart health. In fact, the participants who used air purifiers daily saw a 25% increase in their HRV.

Study author Dr. Sarath Raju, an assistant professor of medicine who specializes in lung diseases at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, explained that an increase in HRV is important.

2 People Rescued After Small Plane Crashes into Maryland Transmission Tower

Two people were rescued early Monday morning after a small plane crashed into a transmission tower in Maryland the previous day.

The Mooney Mike 20P single-engine plane crashed into the power lines at approximately 5:30 p.m. Sunday in the area of Rothbury Drive and Goshen Road in the Montgomery Village area of Gaithersburg, according to Fox 5 DC.

The plane was suspended approximately 100 feet in the air and it took around seven hours before the two individuals in the plane could be rescued at around 4:00 a.m., according to Pete Piringer of the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service. It took until Monday afternoon for the plane to be removed from the power lines and back on the ground.

WH Econ. Adviser on Spending as Fed Tries to Lower Demand: We Need to Focus on Clean Energy

On Monday’s broadcast of CNBC’s “Squawk Box,” White House Council of Economic Advisers member Heather Boushey responded to a question on whether the federal government should keep spending even as the Fed is trying to reduce inflation by stating that “we need to make sure that we are focused on this transition to clean energy for the sake of the environment, but also to make sure that we have that energy independence.”

Co-host Joe Kernen asked, “Would you continue to try to effect some of the president’s priorities knowing that it was counter to what the Fed is doing? Would you continue to have demand increase by spending on whatever, on whatever social programs you want to spend on, or at this point, do you think we really need to take a pause, let the Fed affect demand so [inflation comes] down? Should we keep spending, got more to do next year?”

Membranous Nephropathy After COVID-19 Vaccination

Spike protein induces autoimmunity against PLA2 receptor

Why Strange Clots Form After mRNA Jabs, Treatments to Consider

In our previous article, we provided an overview of COVID-19-related abnormal blood clots. This article will look at the white or brownish fibrous clots found in vaccinated individuals—how these clots form, and potential treatments.

An embalmer is a highly trained professional with a specialized skill set, who works in a funeral home, laboratory, or research facility; he or she is responsible for preparing the bodies of the deceased for funeral services.

Their daily work is to replace blood with embalming fluid in the blood vessels. Since the middle of 2021, an increasing number of embalmers have been talking about their inability to replace blood with embalming fluid in some dead bodies.

Seeking to discover the cause of this, the embalmers we interviewed and those featured in a video series on the topic looked for what was blocking the veins and arteries.

Richard Hirschman, a board-certified embalmer and funeral director in Alabama with more than 20 years of experience, recorded the process of removing clots from the arteries of dead bodies. Hirschman commented, “Normally, we don’t see clots in the iliac. Usually, they’re in veins…This is not normal.”

John O’Looney, the owner and director of the funeral home Milton Keynes Family Funeral Services, located outside Northampton in the United Kingdom, documented fibrous, rubbery, and firm blockages removed from the blood vessels of a young man who died suddenly. The blockages took the shape of blood vessels.

Anna Foster, an embalmer with 11 years of experience in Carrollton, Missouri, began seeing fibrous-looking clots in early summer 2021. She had never before in her career seen such clots.

Two of Foster’s close friends, also embalmers, had seen the same odd blood clots. An anonymous embalmer shared samples of rubber-like white, fibrous clots in an interview with Dr. Jane Ruby.

Serious Adverse Events and Death Reports for Major COVID Vaccines Increase on VAERS

According to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS), as of Dec. 2, 2022, a total of 906,544 adverse events had been reported regarding all approved COVID-19 vaccines in the United States, including 15,584 deaths.

These COVID-19 vaccines have led to more adverse event reports in the VAERS system than all reports made in the past three decades. Specifically, the number of COVID-19 vaccine-related deaths has exceeded 55 percent of all VAERS vaccine death reports.
