Today’s Top 5:

1.Federal Judge Deals Blow to Biden’s Immigration Plans

A federal judge has blocked the White House’s new rules for people seeking asylum at the U.S.–Mexico border, handing a win to left-wing immigration groups.

U.S. District Judge Jon Tigar—an Obama appointee—in Northern California found the rules unlawful because the mandate imposes conditions that Congress did not intend. Judge Tigar stayed his own ruling for 14 days, allowing the Biden administration to appeal before his order takes effect.

2.DeSantis Involved in Car Accident on Way to Event in Tennessee: Campaign

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis was involved in a car crash on Tuesday while campaigning in Tennessee, according to his campaign.

The Republican 2024 presidential candidate was not injured in the incident, spokesman Bryan Griffin said in a statement. Members of Mr. DeSantis’s campaign were also in the vehicle, he suggested.

“We appreciate the prayers and well wishes of the nation for his continued protection while on the campaign trail,” Mr. Griffin said.  He also said that “this morning, the governor was in a car accident while traveling to an event in Chattanooga, Tennessee … he and his team are uninjured.”

3.US citizens will need visa to travel to Europe in 2024: What to know

Anyone looking to travel to Europe in 2024 should be aware of a new requirement that will go into effect for U.S. passport holders.

If you previously traveled to Europe without a visa, you will now need to apply for authorization through the European Travel Information and Authorization System, or ETIAS, before visiting.

Here’s what you need to know.

Today, American travelers have visa-free access to 184 global destinations, according to the Henley Passport Index. And while the U.S. passport is currently ranked eighth-most powerful passport to own, that could be set to shift when the European Union adds its new documentation requirements for U.S. visitors.

4.IRS Destroyed 30 Million Taxpayer Docs–Republicans Demand Explanation

Republicans on two major congressional panels responsible for oversight are demanding answers from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) about its decision to destroy more than 30 million taxpayer documents.

In a letter to IRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (R-Mo.) and Ways and Means Subcommittee on Oversight Chairman David Schweikert (R-Ariz.) reiterated a past request for a memorandum detailing the reasoning behind the 2021 decision (pdf).

5.Judge Demands Explanation From Hunter Biden’s Lawyers Over Alleged Lie to Court Clerk

Lawyers for Hunter Biden may face legal sanctions for allegedly misrepresenting themselves to the court clerk in order to have information related to IRS whistleblowers removed from the case record.

A member of Mr. Biden’s legal team is accused of falsely identifying herself while requesting the removal of amicus materials. According to the court clerk, Jessica Bengels, a New York-based Latham and Watkins litigation services director, contacted the clerk and asked to have the information kept confidential.

In a July 25 letter, Theodore Kittila informed Delaware Judge Maryellen Noreika of the alleged trick, and that the clerk’s office had “advised that someone contacted the court representing that they worked with my office and that they were asking the court to remove this from the docket.”

The heat is not helping. Already four years into a drought, Monday’s peak of 50 degrees Celsius (122 degrees Fahrenheit) has left water short in supply and the future uncertain.

Conditions for farmers are getting progressively worse, she says. However, between government policy and climate change, they are becoming impossible.

“There’s a serious water scarcity here,” Naffef told Al Jazeera. “The wells are getting dry and the government is putting too many restrictions on water policies.”

“You’re now banned from irrigating your vegetables using water from those old wells,” she said, though cautioning that water remained for animals and trees. “Of course, farmers will disobey these new orders. They need to save their lands. We’re now trying to help each other.”

US Lawmaker Wants Answers as ‘Militarized’ IRS Gets $10 Mln in Guns, Ammo and Gear

The Internal Revenue Service received a $80 billion boost in funding last year as part of the $1.2 trillion Inflation Reduction Act, and announced plans to hire tens of thousands of agents and spend billions of dollars on “enforcement.” The move comes amid decades-old concerns about the growing militarization of law enforcement in the US.

A US lawmaker has sounded the alarm about the millions of dollars’ worth of weapons and tactical equipment purchased by the IRS in recent years, and has asked the agency to account for the purchases.

“While I recognize the Criminal Investigation division has a law enforcement role, recent reports have indicated that the IRS has made substantial purchases of weaponry and tactical gear. As a civilian agency whose stated mission is to ‘provide America’s taxpayers top-quality service by helping them understand and meet their tax responsibilities and enforce the law with integrity and fairness to all’, the increasing militarization of the IRS is of growing concern,” Representative Stephanie Bice wrote in an open letter to IRS commissioner Daniel Werfel.

Citing a recent watchdog report that the agency spent nearly $10 million on weapons, ammunition and gear including tactical lighting, optical sights and ballistic helmets since 2020, Bice asked the IRS chief to provide more information on the “quantity and type” of the weapons, ammunition, explosive devices, armored vehicles, drones, tear gas and other equipment in the agency’s possession.

“It is important for Congress to conduct thorough oversight of IRS,” Bice stressed.

Bice, a Republican from Oklahoma, is a member of the powerful House Appropriations Committee, the House Budget Committee, and the Committee on House Administration. The lawmaker expects a reply back from Werfel within five business days.

Just What Was Henry “Old Friend Of China” Kissinger Doing With Chairman Xi?

When Trilateral Commission sage Kissinger shows up in unexpected places, we should look closely to see what this 100 year-old snake is up to. This was not an official visit, but remember, it was Kissinger in 1972 who thawed relations with China, which made it possible for Zbigniew Brzezinski to induct them into the modern world in 1976- and subsequently feed them Technocracy’s dogma to build a giant global octopus.

What message could Kissinger have delivered to Xi in private?

Kissinger is the last remaining living legacy of the late David Rockefeller. Kissinger was always known as a “Rockefeller man” dating back to the 1960s. The Rockefellers had a century-long love affair with China and picked it as the perfect launching pad to build a model Technocracy for world domination. Have these goals been lost or is Kissinger merely reminding them of their proper place in the world?

Carlee, again, asks for your forgiveness and prayers.”

Outrage Ensues After Family of Marine Killed in Afghanistan Withdrawal Forced to Pay to Transport Her Body

With all that’s happened, much of it negative, during the Biden administration, it’s easy to forget just how bad the withdrawal from Afghanistan was. With time, things fade, but the disaster that unfolded remains one of the lowest points in American history. That it was completely preventable, caused by one arrogant, egotistical man only makes the situation more tragic.

IN-DEPTH: ATF ‘Zero Tolerance’ Forces Nearly 2,000 Gun Vendors to Close, Says Lawsuit

Having failed to pass gun bans to curtail Americans’ purchases of firearms, the Biden administration appears now to be attempting to restrict the supply of guns, with a new “zero tolerance” policy at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) that has put nearly 2,000 gun sellers out of business in the past two years, according to one lawsuit.

Starting in 2021, the ATF implemented an aggressive agenda in its inspections of Federal Firearms Licensees (FFLs), in many cases permanently revoking licenses over what defendants say are minor clerical errors.

“This is an end-around gun ban, because you start putting gun dealers out of business and now all of a sudden it’s very difficult for people to purchase firearms,” Erich Pratt, senior vice president of Gun Owners of America (GOA), told The Epoch Times. GOA filed a lawsuit on July 11 against the Biden administration in response to the ATF’s zero-tolerance enforcement.

When A First Gun Comes Home

In the twilight of last summer, just as I boarded a flight, I glanced down at my phone to see four missed calls from Frankie, a good friend in Los Angeles. I hurriedly called back.

“He’s dead,” she shrieked. “He’s dead, and I need to learn to protect myself.”

Once Frankie finally calmed down enough to articulate what was going on, I learned that one of her closest friends in the city’s downtown area was walking to the gym one sunny morning when an assailant struck him down in an apparent act of random violence. Frankie, who lived alone and just a few blocks from where this increasingly common L.A. incident happened, immediately knew she no longer wanted to be a sitting duck.

“Anybody could come to my door anytime,” she lamented breathlessly.

A few private-range classes later and Frankie—a foreign national who had come to America a decade ago with European-entrenched anti-gun views—was the dignified owner of a SIG P229.

“I get it now,” she tells me. “I get why anyone, women especially, should have this as a means to protect themselves.”

Statistical case in point …

Between 2020 and 2022, as per a recent report from the gun-control-promoting National Opinion Research Center (NORC) at the University of Chicago, one in five American households bought their first-ever firearm, which expanded the percentage of American adults living in a residence with a gun to an estimated 46%.

“Over this period, one in 20 adults in America (5%) purchased a gun for the first time,” the report stated. According to the FBI, an average of 13 million guns were legally sold in the U.S. each year between 2010 and 2019, increasing to about 20 million annual gun sales in both 2020 and 2021.”

Further, NORC reports that both new and pre-pandemic gun owners showed similar levels of support for their Second Amendment rights and were proponents of concealed carry and tended to back enabling educators and school officials to carry concealed on campuses. The findings also pointed out that new gun owners are much more likely to be younger and to be people of color when compared to pre-pandemic gun owners in America.  Moreover, data from the Statista Research Department indicates that Americans between 35 and 54 were more likely to own a gun than those in both the 18-34 and the 55-and-over brackets. And, within the burgeoning demographic of new owners, women stand out from the pack. The National Firearms Survey found that about 42.2% of gun owners are women, a significant leap from decades past in which women comprised only 10-20% of all U.S. gun owners. Minority groups are also flocking to gun stores; for example, the NSSF’s 2020 surveys found a 58% increase in black people buying guns compared to a year earlier. The following year, retailers witnessed a 44% spike. And, of the pandemic-induced growth, women made up almost one-third of all first-time gun buyers.

Intruder Meets His Match: How an Elderly Man Defended His Home Without Firing a Shot

There are many misunderstandings about the use of a firearm to defend one’s life or property. Those who are not familiar with the concept of defensive gun uses (DGUs) tend to assume that these incidents typically result in someone getting shot.

However, the assumption that most DGU incidents result in violence is far from the truth. In fact, a recent incident in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, illustrates how most individuals who use guns to defend themselves do not have to shoot anyone. This heartening story highlights the potential effectiveness of responsibly armed citizens in thwarting criminal activities without resorting to violence.

This story is one of those situations. An elderly man in Jacksonville Beach recently used his gun to defend himself and his wife during a home invasion:

A homeowner held a man who was attempting to rob an elderly couple’s Jacksonville Beach home at gunpoint until police arrived, according to Neptune Beach police.

Police said Antonio Grant, 36, broke into an elderly couple’s home on Florida Boulevard on July 19 by forcing open the back door. To his surprise, the homeowner got a gun and held Grant at gunpoint until police arrived to arrest him.

Grant was just released from prison after committing an attempted forcible sexual battery in 2018 in Jacksonville Beach. He was arrested and charged with second-degree forcible felony for burglary.

UFO whistleblowers to testify unknown objects are ‘far superior’ to US tech, govt ‘operating with secrecy’

The witnesses include former USAF intelligence officer David Grusch, former US Navy F-18 pilot Ryan Graves and retired US Navy Commander David Fravor

Three witnesses who are set to appear Wednesday morning before the House Oversight Subcommittee on National Security, the Border, and Foreign Affairs are expected to testify that the United States government should share information and intelligence it has with the American people concerning unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), previously known as unidentified flying objects (UFO).

The witnesses include David Grusch, an intelligence officer for 14 years in the U.S. Air Force at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency; Ryan “FOBS” Graves, a former F-18 pilot with over a decade of service in the U.S. Navy; and David Fravor, a retired commander in the U.S. Navy who was also the commanding officer of Strike Fighter Squadron 41, the world-famous Black Aces.

Grusch and Graves are expected to testify about how the government keeps its knowledge of UAPs secret, even to lawmakers, while Fravor is expected to talk about the advanced technologies — which are potentially extraterrestrial — that intelligence services have witnessed in recent years.

The committee hearing titled “Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena: Implications on National Security, Public Safety, and Government Transparency” is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 26.

A Democrat’s obsessive quest to change the way America is farmed and fed

Earl Blumenauer has been on a 26-year quest to pass a bill to reform farming to center people, animals and the environment

Supported by

Each year for the last 26 years – nearly his entire tenure in the US Congress – Earl Blumenauer has advocated for a law that would utterly transform US agriculture.

Nearly every time, though, his proposals have been shut down. Even so, he persists.

Blumenauer, a Democrat from Oregon, wants to see a version of US agriculture that centers people, animals and the environment, rather than the large-scale, energy-intensive commodity crop farms that currently receive billions of dollars in subsidies. In effect, he has a completely different vision for how 40% of the country’s land looks and works.

“Every year is an uphill battle. We’re up against entrenched, wealthy, strong interests,” said Blumenauer, known for his signature bowtie, circular glasses and bicycle enamel pin. He’s the spitting image of a progressive environmentalist and doesn’t shy from discussing some of agriculture’s most divisive issues.

But he remains optimistic and steadfast in his vision for the American food system. Now more than ever, he feels momentum and support surrounding the future of farming and food production. People care about where their food comes from and what kind of impact their food is having on the climate, he says.

Blumenauer’s newest plan, the Food and Farm Act, was introduced earlier this year, as an alternative to the farm bill – the package of food and agricultural policies passed every five years that is up for renewal this fall. His proposal would redirect billions of dollars away from subsidies for commodity farms towards programs that support small farmers, climate-friendly agriculture and increasing healthy food access.

The bill also prioritizes food waste management and animal welfare – areas that have been completely neglected by previous iterations of the farm bill.

“We simply pay too much to the wrong people, to grow the wrong foods the wrong way, in the wrong places,” Blumenauer said.

What Can You Do to Help Prevent Cataracts?

Cataracts is an eye condition that causes your vision to blur due to a buildup of proteins on the lens of your eye. Left untreated, cataracts can result in progressive loss of vision and, ultimately, blindness

The most common treatment for cataracts is surgery, but it’s not without risks. In 42% of cases, cataract surgery results in dry eyes, and in 20% of cases, it leaves the patient with a droopy eyelid

Your eyes are significantly affected by blood sugar. Chronically high blood sugar from poor nutrition and lack of exercise can trigger long-term damage to your body and make you more prone to eye diseases, including cataracts, glaucoma and blindness

Antioxidants found in leafy greens and colorful berries and vegetables can help prevent and/or treat cataracts. Key nutrients include carotenoids like lutein, zeaxanthin, astaxanthin and vitamin C.

Other natural remedies for cataracts include N-acetylcarnosine (NAC) drops and N-acetylcysteine amide (NACA) drops

SCSO issues warning over fraudulent arrest warrant scam

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a fraudulent arrest warrant scam that is making the rounds again.

Unsuspecting victims are receiving phone calls from individuals who identify themselves as law enforcement officers. The caller claims the victim has an outstanding warrant for their arrest that needs to be paid immediately, or the victim will be arrested.

These threats are followed by requests for the victim to travel to locations with stand-alone Bitcoin ATMs, transfer funds, and then turn themselves in at the jail with their ATM receipt. Unfortunately, some of these criminals have succeeded with unsuspecting victims.

Here are some tips from SCSO to assist the public in avoiding these scams:

  1. Do not confirm any identifying/personal information.
  2. Law enforcement will not threaten you and your families with additional criminal charges.
  3. Law enforcement will not ask for payment over the phone and will never ask in the form of wire transfers, bitcoin, gift cards, or websites not affiliated with law enforcement.
  4. If you do not recognize the alleged criminal or civil accusation, it most likely is not valid.
  5. “Verify” — SCSO strongly urges anyone to contact their respective law enforcement agencies to determine if the call was legitimate.

If you feel that you have been victimized by a similar scam, contact your local law enforcement agency.
