The Next Crisis Is Anyone’s Guess, But the Government Is Ready to Lockdown the Nation

John Whitehead’s Commentary – First came 9/11, which the government used to transform itself into a police state.

Then the COVID-19 pandemic hit, which the police state used to test out its lockdown powers.

In light of the government’s tendency to exploit crises (legitimate or manufactured) and capitalize on the nation’s heightened emotions, confusion and fear as a means of extending the reach of the police state, one has to wonder what so-called crisis it will declare next.

It’s a simple enough formula: first, you create fear, then you capitalize on it by seizing power.

Frankly, it doesn’t even matter what the nature of the next national emergency might be (terrorism, civil unrest, economic collapse, a health scare, or the environment) as long as it allows the government to lockdown the nation and justify all manner of tyranny in the so-called name of national security.

Cue the Emergency State.

Armed Georgia teen fatally shot by cops after killing K-9 officer during eight-hour manhunt

A Georgia teenager was shot dead by cops after he gunned down a police dog during an eight-hour manhunt, according to authorities.

Stephon Ford, 17, died Saturday hours after the Jonesboro Police Department was called to investigate “suspicious activity” at a hotel, where authorities said they found Ford and two other men with marijuana and a cache of weapons.

The nearby Clayton Police Department was among those helping, deploying K-9 officer Waro, a German shepherd, to help track down the teen.

Waro managed to find the hiding suspect, who refused to surrender — with Ford instead firing at officers with a handgun, hitting the K-9 in the back.

Austin Cops Tell ‘Unfortunate’ Robbery Victims to Dial Non-Emergency Number amid Rampant Crime

Police in Austin, Texas, are asking residents to call 311 if they become victimized by robbers as crime plagues the leftist-run city, Fox News reported Monday.

“Did you get robbed on your way back from a bank or ATM? Call 3-1-1 or make an online report,” the Austin Police Department said in an infographic shared Friday:

“Even if you are cautious & follow all the safety advice, you may still become the unfortunate victim of a robbery. Do you know what your next steps should be?” the post reads.

The number 311 is typically for non-emergency calls, the Fox News article noted, adding the directive was shared as the state’s capital city suffers from rising crime.

‘It’s just a big rattlesnake farm’: Wind-farm waste creates ‘hazardous’ new problem

‘The county doesn’t have and cannot find millions of dollars to clean this up’

Some small town residents in Texas and Iowa are frustrated by mounting piles of wind farm waste in their communities, according to Texas Monthly.

The turbines that onshore wind developments use to generate power can be up to 200 feet in length, and the material that they are made of is rigid, according to Texas Monthly. These attributes make the equipment difficult to remove or recycle after they are decommissioned, a reality which can lead to these turbines piling up in communities like Sweetwater, Texas, and irritating some of the locals who have to live in close proximity to the waste.

Discarded turbines now occupy about 30 acres of land in Sweetwater, according to Texas Monthly. Locals worry that there may not be a viable plan for getting rid of the equipment, leaving the piles of material to sit as dens for rattlesnakes and mosquito breeding hotbeds.

Illinois Tops List of States Americans Left in 2022: Report

For the fourth year in a row, Illinois has topped the list of states from which Americans are fleeing in droves, according to a new report from moving company Allied Van Lines.

The report, which tracks migration patterns in the United States, found that fewer Americans moved in 2022 compared to 2021, as rents and interest rates soared and wages struggled to keep up with rising inflation, resulting in a roughly 20 percent decrease year over year.

However, those who did relocate appeared to move to Arizona, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas—specifically to Austin, Charlotte, Nashville, Sarasota, and Tucson, the report found.

Meanwhile, Illinois was the state in which the most number of Americans fled in 2022, with approximately 66.1 percent more Americans moving out of the state compared to just 33.9 percent moving in.

Following Illinois, California, New Jersey, Michigan, and Pennsylvania were the top four states from which Americans fled in 2022, according to the report.

Anaheim, Chicago, New York City, Riverside, and San Diego were the most fled cities, Allied Van Lines said.

Report: 90% Of Online Content May Be AI-Generated Garbage by 2026

A recent report from Europol warns that by 2026, as much as 90 percent of online content could be generated by artificial intelligence, raising concerns that the web might be even more jammed with useless garbage in a few short years than it is today.

Futurism reports that a recent study by Europol suggests that by 2026, up to 90 percent of online content could be artificially generated. This staggering figure has sent ripples through various sectors, from journalism and art to technology and law enforcement. Synthetic media, which refers to content generated or manipulated using artificial intelligence, is not a new phenomenon. However, its rapid proliferation has raised eyebrows and concerns alike.

“In most cases, synthetic media is generated for gaming, to improve services or to improve the quality of life,” the report states. While AI-generated content has its merits — such as enhancing user experience in gaming or streamlining customer service — it also opens the door to more nefarious uses. “The increase in synthetic media and improved technology has given rise to disinformation possibilities,” the report adds.

The report states: “On a daily basis, people trust their own perception to guide them and tell them what is real and what is not. Auditory and visual recordings of an event are often treated as a truthful account of an event. But what if these media can be generated artificially, adapted to show events that never took place, to misrepresent events, or to distort the truth?”

The report also raises existential questions for artists, writers, and other content creators. In a world increasingly dominated by AI-generated content, what is the role of human creativity? Will artists and writers adapt to this new landscape, or will they be overshadowed by algorithms that can produce content at scale?

Revealed: how US immigration uses fake social media profiles across investigations

Records from the Department of Homeland Security show it sought to expand undercover operations online despite pushback from Facebook

US immigration officials sought to expand their abilities to monitor and surveil social media activity and allowed officers to create and use fake social media profiles in a wide range of operations, including covertly researching the online presence of people seeking immigration benefits, new documents show.

Authorities within several Department of Homeland Security (DHS) immigration agencies, including Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice), have repeatedly discussed using “aliases”, or undercover online accounts for investigations, according to records obtained through an open records request by the civil rights non-profit Brennan Center for Justice and shared with the Guardian. Officials have also expressed concern about social media sites’ policies that prohibit the use of fake profiles and discussed bypassing those rules.

Black Seed Oil and Hashimoto’s

Black seed oil shows promise for positively influencing thyroid health and lowering thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). It may also play a role in addressing some of the individual root cause issues that contribute to Hashimoto’s, including gut health, blood sugar imbalances, and metabolic health. Let’s explore some of the recent evidence in further detail.

Thyroid Function

Although there is a lot of data on black seed oil, there had been little study in the Hashimoto’s population, until a 2016 Iranian study looked at the therapeutic use of black seed oil in people with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis.

A 2020 study on patients with Hashimoto’s showed that treatment with black seed oil significantly increased total antioxidant capacity, which is important because those with Hashimoto’s typically have a lot of oxidative stress. The study also showed that participants receiving the black seed oil saw a reduction in body mass and a reduction in LDL cholesterol, while HDL cholesterol levels improved.

Other recent studies have solidified black seed oil’s ability to improve thyroid hormones. A study conducted on hypothyroid rats in 2022 found that black seed oil raised T3 levels, and another study showed that a powder of black cumin seed was able to raise T3 levels over a period of eight weeks, while also reducing the synthesis of anti-TPO antibodies. A 2020 study on hypothyroid rats showed that oral administration of black seed oil over four weeks was able to improve TSH levels.

Black seed oil may also be protective for the livers and kidneys. In Hashimoto’s, impaired detoxification is a common issue, so this is another way in which we can support our systems. One study showed that TQ was able to restore normal liver function in hypothyroid rats who displayed nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.

Another study showed that TQ’s antioxidant properties may have a protective effect against hypothyroidism-induced kidney injury.

Lastly, black seed oil has also been shown to have a gastroprotective effect on the formation of stress-induced gastritis. One study found that administration of black seed oil to rats over a period of 15 days showed a reduced number of ulcers and lesions in their guts. The study attributed this to the antihistaminic effects of black seed oil, as well as its potent antioxidant effects. Supporting the gut is one of the most important things you can do for Hashimoto’s, as every person with Hashimoto’s will have some level of gut dysfunction.

Cut your risk of “Breaking Bad:” Natural ways to protect bone health

Breaking Bad isn’t just the name of a popular program on TV.  For many, the phrase can also summon up a potential consequence of osteoporosis.  An age-related condition in which bones become more porous, brittle, and prone to fractures, osteoporosis affects one out of every five women over age 50 and one out of twenty men in that same age bracket.

In many instances, osteoporosis is a “silent” disease.  You may not even realize you have it until a fracture occurs – and this can result from actions as innocuous as coughing or stepping down from a curb.  Fortunately, research has shown that good nutrition and lifestyle habits can increase bone mineral density and help to guard against this debilitating disease.  To see how you can cut the odds of “breaking bad,” read on.

  • Red sage can be an ally against osteoporosis
  • Silica-packed horsetail reinforces healthy bones
  • Study with thyme yields promising results
  • A team of vitamins, minerals, and plant chemicals all cooperate to build and preserve bone.  When it comes to nutrients that can fortify bones, most people think of calcium – with good cause.  After all, 99 percent of the body’s calcium is in the skeleton – and calcium-rich dairy products are well-known as bone-friendly foods.  But, the truth is that an entire ensemble of minerals and vitamins – including vitamin D, magnesium, phosphorus, boron, vitamin C, vitamin K, copper, and zinc – are needed to orchestrate bone growth and maintenance.

Polyphenols and plant pigments have been shown to play a role as well.  For example, cranberries contain natural plant pigments known as proanthocyanidins.  A study published in the journal Molecules showed that proanthocyanidins inhibited the function of osteoclasts (cells that break down bone).

Avocadoes are good sources of boron, which helps the body absorb magnesium and increases the bone-building power of vitamin D.  Watermelon, tomatoes, and guava also may help to inhibit bone loss due to their content of a pinkish-red plant pigment known as lycopene.

Another unlikely-seeming bone “hero” is the humble prune.  A recent study published in Nutrients found that 100 grams of prunes daily for 12 months increased bone mineral density in elderly men.  And extra-virgin olive oil – rich in antioxidant polyphenols – is linked with increased bone mineral density as well.

Finally, there are many organic fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin C, which supports cartilage formation and creates collagen used in bone marrow.  Keep in mind, many people are deficient in vitamin C … so supplementation is a good idea and most holistic healthcare providers suggest several thousand milligrams per day, depending on your health status.

Other natural steps you can take include steering clear of high-salt foods, limiting alcohol, and quitting smoking.  It’s also important to get sufficient exercise, particularly weight-bearing activities like walking, dancing, jogging, and weight lifting.

Remember, it only takes one fracture to threaten mobility and well-being.  With wise lifestyle choices, you can lower the odds of “breaking bad.”

Kids Intentionally Poisoned by Artificial School Lunches

Two Kraft Heinz ready-to-eat prepackaged Lunchables are being added to K-12 school lunch programs across the U.S. this fall

Kraft Heinz — which is primarily owned by institutional shareholders, the top four being Berkshire Hathaway, BlackRock, Vanguard and State Street — is a partner of the School Nutrition Association, and has been pushing to get their wares into the lunch program for some time

According to Katie Wilson, executive director of the Urban School Food Alliance, the fact that a processed, packaged food meets school lunch standards points to problems with the federal nutritional guidelines

Topping my list of concerns for the Lunchables extra cheese pizza product is the presence of soybean oil, which is loaded with harmful omega-6 linoleic acid (LA). Evidence suggests LA is a key contributor to chronic diseases, as it impairs mitochondrial function and energy production

“Vital wheat gluten” is another concern. This is pure gluten, which can contribute to or cause leaky gut. Other questionable ingredients include artificial flavors, preservatives, food coloring and “cellulose powder,” which is a fancy name for refined wood pulp. In addition to being an anticaking agent, wood pulp also provides bulk (cutting down on the amount of “real” ingredients required) and can have a laxative effect in sufficient quantity

Blue Legs: A New Long-COVID Symptom; How to Test for and Treat It

It started with an uncomfortable tingling and itchiness in his legs after standing for 10 minutes. Then, the he watched as his lower limbs turned blue right before his eyes. He was experiencing acrocyanosis, a pooling of blood in the extremities that had never afflicted him before.

Doctors attributed the 33-year-old man’s symptoms, which started 18 months prior, to a bout of COVID-19 he had suffered then, according to a recent case study in The Lancet. His case provides new evidence that the virus may cause lasting dysautonomia—dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system—that experts are only beginning to understand.

“This was a striking case of acrocyanosis in a patient who had not experienced it before his COVID-19 infection,” Dr. Manoj Sivan, associate clinical professor and honorary consultant in rehabilitation medicine at the University of Leeds’ School of Medicine, said in a press statement.

Dogs Love Bones, but Please Avoid This Mistake

This proved fatal to a 2-year-old miniature Schnauzer. But sadly, the whole tragedy could’ve been avoided had the owners paid attention to these 2 all-important rules for this highly engaging doggie activity. Instead, they evidently violated both of them.

Veterinarians are increasingly warning dog owners not to give recreational bones to their pets due to the danger they pose

While it’s true that for some dogs no bone is safe, most can be offered raw bones as long as the dog’s guardian is knowledgeable and careful

While cooked bones are a serious safety hazard, raw recreational bones can provide significant benefits to dogs

Two very important rules for feeding raw bones to your dog include insuring you’re offering the right size bone, and supervising your dog whenever he or she is working on a bone

Dog Vision: What Colors Do Dogs See?

Are dogs colorblind?

Whitney, my seeing eye dog, and I visited a school on the North Side of Chicago recently, and for some reason, the first and second graders seemed particularly interested in color blindness. When one of them asked me if it’s true that dogs can only see black and white, I explained that dogs do see some colors, but they can’t tell the difference between red and green.

In a way, yes. A dog’s vision is similar to that of a human who has red-green color blindness. To dogs, red may appear gray or dark brown, while yellow, orange, and green all look like varying shades of yellow, and violet appears to be just another shade of blue. Research is still ongoing to determine if dogs can distinguish between red and green, although some scientists believe canines may use context clues to tell the difference, such as understanding that red objects tend to be darker than green ones.

Why can’t dogs see specific colors like red and green?

When researching what colors dogs can see, I found that dogs can see colors, but not the same way humans do. People can see a rainbow of variations, including violet, blue, green, yellow, orange, and red. Dogs can only see blue, yellow, and some shades of gray. See the color chart below for an approximate idea of what colors dogs see best.

How does a dog’s brain process colors?

Dog eyes work much like a camera. Light enters through the pupil. The iris, a structure that can expand and contract, controls the amount of light allowed in. Light then passes through the clear cornea and lens, which focus the light on the retina, a light-sensitive layer. The retina contains color-sensitive cones and motion- and light-sensitive rods, all of which convert light into electrical signals. The cones and rods send these signals via the optic nerve to the brain, which constructs an image from them.

Fun Facts About Dogs and Color

Although dog color vision is much more limited than that of their human parents, dogs tend to be very attentive to the colors they are able to perceive, and some evidence suggests that dogs may even be able to see some colors that humans cannot

Certain colors improve a dog’s agility.

Dogs do better at agility training when the weave poles, tunnels, jumps, and boards are painted in colors they can easily discern, such as blue and yellow.

Dogs are nearsighted.

Dog eyesight is 20/75, which makes them quite nearsighted. So, while your dog is likely better at detecting movement and seeing in dark rooms, their vision may be much blurrier than yours.

The best dog toy color is…

Based on what we know about dogs’ color vision, the best color for dog toys is blue, which will stand out on most backgrounds, such as grass, which only appears yellowish or brown to dogs.

Can Cats See Color? Short answer: Yes — but not the way we do.

While cats can certainly see color, the full vibrant spectrum of a rainbow is a bit more muted in their eyes. Similar to dogs, cats’ vision is much more limited than human vision, but they have stronger senses in other areas, such as seeing in low light. But just how many colors can cats see compared to their human parents?

What colors can cats see?

Cats don’t see as many colors as humans do, but what colors can cats see best? Your beloved feline can likely make out varying shades of blue, green, and yellow, but red, orange, and brown are imperceptible to their eyes. And even the colors that cats do see don’t appear in the same richness of hues and saturation that human eyes perceive, making the cat color spectrum much more muted than the human one.

Why can’t cats see red?

The color-detecting cones in a cat’s eyes are most sensitive to blue-violet and yellow-green wavelengths of light. Unlike humans, cats don’t have cones sensitive to red light wavelengths, which prevents them from seeing the color red. So, if your cat enjoys chasing a laser pointer around the house, they don’t actually see the color of the light. Instead, they’re just responding to the rapid movement.

Can cats distinguish between different shades of blue and green?

Just like dogs, cats’ color vision is primarily in shades of yellow, blue, and gray, although cats tend to perceive more blue and greenish-yellow hues, while dogs’ vision focuses more on blue and yellow.

Does a cat’s color vision affect their behavior?

Cats tend to rely more on their ability to detect movement, as well as seeing in dim lighting, than their color vision. While your cat may not be aware of the bright colors that you can see each day, they can still sneak up on you in the dark (and give you a fright) and practice their hunting skills by chasing moving toys. Most likely, your cat doesn’t know what they’re missing and gets through their days just fine with the vision they do have, muted colors and all.

How does this affect cats?

Cats’ vision is not as good as humans’ vision in terms of color perception, so cats don’t perceive the rich colors that we do. However, cats have other senses that help them to compensate for this lack, such as their hearing and their sense of smell.

As a cat parent, you may be tempted to choose toys with bright colors because they appeal to your vision spectrum, but your cat likely won’t be excited by a bright red mouse. Instead, look for toys that move to engage your cat’s hunting instincts, and if you want to choose colorful toys they can enjoy, stick with shades of yellow and blue.

Can cats see in the dark?

It’s a common belief that cats can see in the dark, which may contribute to their often spooky reputation. While cats can’t see in complete darkness, they are able to see six times better than humans in low light because they have a much larger number of rod cells in their eyes.
