Today’s Top 5:

Invasion, shmasion … what border wall? And why NOW?

1.Greg Abbott Touts Razor Wire, River Barriers as Border ‘Invasion’ Declared

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has said that there is an invasion taking place in the state as an influx of migrants arrive at the southern border.

Abbott spoke as Texas officials continue to disagree with the White House over the crossings where the Lone Star State meets Mexico. The border city of Eagle Pass is one of several areas experiencing a surge in the number of migrants, many of whom are reported to be from Venezuela, attempting to cross the border.

Border officials in Eagle Pass confirmed around 4,000 people arrived at the border on Wednesday, per NewsNation, and that, at one point, the queue stretched for five miles. Newsweek has yet to confirm this figure, and there is no official total.

a.)Everything Is Bigger In Texas, Including This Sprawling Migrant Enclave and … it looks like Abbott is “in on it”!

The largest illegal alien “colonia” in the United States is getting bigger. Located just north of Houston, the massive Colony Ridge development is home to more than 75,000 residents, nearly all of them migrants.

The booming but sketchy assemblage of cheap single-family houses, mobile homes and hastily constructed shacks has been dubbed “The World’s Biggest Trailer Park.” Ten years ago, the area was mostly forested wetlands. Today it’s 10,000 acres of denuded residential lots, stretching mile after mile.

The hyper-growth at Colony Ridge is stressing nearby towns, waterways and, as reported by FAIR, local schools. Conditions don’t figure to improve as the developer clear-cuts even larger swaths of woodlands to accommodate an unending wave of new arrivals.

b). Abbott Donor Funds Illegal Alien Housing Project Near Houston

“Colony Ridge Communities” markets land to illegal aliens through loan loopholes, while stakeholders contribute to Abbott yearly.

Pretty soon, this fracas will erupt into civil unrest …

2.Staten Island Protesters Arrested After Blocking Bus Carrying Illegal Immigrants

Police made 10 arrests after fed-up Staten Island residents took to the street Tuesday night and physically blocked the arrival of a bus carrying dozens of illegal immigrants to a residential school that had recently been converted into a shelter.

“The police are arresting law-abiding American citizens to protect law-breaking non-citizens,” Mark Fonte, a lawyer who has filed a lawsuit on behalf of residents of Staten Island trying to stop the city from relocating illegal immigrants to the borough, told The Epoch Times. “The mayor is using his emergency powers to place these unvetted immigrants in residential communities against the will of the people, and the people are angry.”

“The residents are trying to send a message to the migrants that they are not welcome here,” added Mr. Fonte.

Yeah … let’s not play nice at the polls  in 2024 … that’s what you call “bringin’ it home!”

3.IN-DEPTH: Republicans Embrace Ballot Harvesting for 2024, Some Foresee Legal Battles

After years of condemning ballot harvesting and early voting, Republicans are switching course for 2024 and embracing both policies wholeheartedly. The results, experts say, can bear good and bad consequences. Some foresee legal challenges.

“Ballot harvesting” is a practice where third-party individuals or organizations collect completed mail-in ballots and deliver them to election officials on a voter’s behalf.

Hans von Spakovsky—Election Law Reform Initiative Manager and Senior Fellow at The Heritage—prefers to call the practice “Ballot Trafficking.”

And the hand-slap of insurrectionist Ray Epps continues …

4.Ray Epps Pleads Guilty to Single Petty Misdemeanor Count

James Ray Epps Sr. pleaded guilty on Sept. 20 to a single misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge, bringing to a close a lightning-quick prosecution for his actions in Washington D.C. on Jan. 6, 2021.

Appearing remotely before Chief U.S. District Judge James Boasberg, Mr. Epps pleaded guilty to disorderly or disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds, a Class A misdemeanor with a maximum one-year prison term.

A 14-page plea agreement (pdf) filed by federal prosecutors said Mr. Epps would face no more than six months in jail and a fine in the range of $2,000 to $20,000. The document was dated Sept. 6 and gave Mr. Epps until Sept. 15 to accept or reject the plea offer. The agreement was filed with the court on Sept. 20.

And about that place called Colony Ridge …

5.Inside Colony Ridge: The ‘Fastest Growing Development’ In The U.S. Is A Magnet For Illegal Immigrants

A Texas land developer has established a sprawling settlement north of Houston where thousands of illegal immigrants are believed to have settled, raising concerns among experts and elected officials that the development 400 miles in the interior of the United States could become a strategic asset for cartels.

Located in Liberty County, Texas near the small town of Plum Grove, the Colony Ridge development is a sprawling community that, based on an analysis of publicly available information, is now over 60 square miles and nearly the size of the nation’s capital, Washington, D.C. Its population is estimated to be anywhere between 50,000 to 75,000, and it is growing rapidly thanks to a marketing plan targeted at Texas’ hispanic population.

Vietnam to Require Biometric Authentication for Some Online Money Transfers to Cut Fraud

Activist Post Editor’s Note: As you’ll read, the “authentication for some” will become “authentication for all.” The increasing requirements to use biometrics for nearly everything is going to create a complete loss of privacy and likely a new level of threat for identity theft and other forms of cybercrime, despite claiming to thwart those invasions. Remember, the current systems were put in place to supposedly counter the threats of the old systems. The same rationale is always used to seize more control.

The State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) plans to introduce biometric authentication for major online money transfer operations as a way of putting the rising wave of online financial fraud in the country in check.

According to Vietnam Plus, the deputy head of the SBV’s payment department, Le Anh Dung, said during a recent seminar that as part of the plan, authentication using fingerprint, iris or face biometrics would soon be needed for all online money transfers possibly exceeding 10 million Vietnamese dong (US$411).

The seminar was dedicated to discussing ways of better protecting bank accounts from increasing online fraud.

Biden Grants Quasi-Amnesty to 470,000 More Venezuelan Migrants

President Joe Biden’s border chief is providing quasi-amnesty and work permits to 470,000 more Venezuelan illegal migrants who are now crowding New York and other cities.

Biden’s Temporary Protected Status (TPS) expansion will add one worker for every nine Americans who will begin to seek jobs this year.

GOP Governors Demand Biden Disclose Where DHS Is Resettling Illegal Aliens

Republican governors are calling on President Joe Biden to “provide honest, accurate, detailed information” on where his administration is resettling tens of thousands of border crossers and illegal aliens released into the United States every month.

In a letter to Biden, Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte (R), along with 24 other Republican governors, is urging Biden to divulge the locations of the millions of illegal aliens that have entered American communities since he took office in early 2021.

And you thought there was only one invasion at the Southern Border?

Congressional Hearing Sounds the Alarm on Chinese Communist Influence in K-12 Classrooms

A congressional hearing sounded the alarm about the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) using Mandarin language programs to spread communist ideology and grow its soft power in America’s K-12 classrooms.

Confucius Classrooms, the K-12 version of Confucius Institutes (CI) in universities, are language programs for which the CCP provides funding and controls curriculum and teacher vetting. In August 2020, the State Department designated the CI program’s D.C.-based headquarters as a “foreign mission” of China based on its “skewed Chinese language and cultural training for U.S. students as part of Beijing’s multifaceted propaganda efforts” and that the CI language programs were under guidance from the CCP’s United Front Work Department, the leading agency in charge of influence operations.

“[The CCP] are not paying for these books because they want us to learn,” Mike Gonzalez, a senior fellow at the Washington-based Heritage Foundation, said at the Tuesday hearing organized by the Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education under the House Education Committee.

Mexican Railway Overrun by Illegal Immigrants Suspends Some Service

Mexican railroad operator Ferromex has suspended some service in the northern part of the country following the “regrettable” injuries and deaths of about a half-dozen illegal immigrants who tried to hop aboard its freight cars.

Ferromex halted 60 trains on northern routes that have the capacity to carry enough cargo to fill 1,800 tractor-trailers, the company said in a Sept. 19 statement.

The company, owned by Grupo México, stated that the number of illegal immigrants occupying its trains and rail yards had increased significantly in recent days, totaling more than 4,000 across several cities.

Alternate Trump Electors Push Back Against State Racketeering Charges in Federal Court

Three alternate presidential electors who argue their efforts to support former President Donald Trump in Georgia in the 2020 election were shielded by federal law, urged a federal judge on Sept. 20 not to return state racketeering charges against them to state court.

The federal removal hearing before Judge Steve C. Jones of the Northern District of Georgia is apparently the first test in federal court of alternate electors’ argument that they are immune to state prosecution because they were acting as federal officers. The judge was appointed in 2011 by President Barack Obama.

The evidentiary hearing in Atlanta lasted a little under three hours.

Rupert Murdoch steps down as Fox and News Corp. chairman, sending shockwaves through media and politics

Rupert Murdoch, the powerful right-wing media mogul who built and oversaw one of the world’s most influential news empires, announced Thursday that he will step down as chairman of his companies, Fox Corporation and News Corporation.

“For my entire professional life, I have been engaged daily with news and ideas, and that will not change,” Murdoch, 92, wrote in a memo to employees. “But the time is right for me to take on different roles, knowing that we have truly talented teams.”

As the leader of Fox and News Corporation, which publishes influential broadsheets such as The Wall Street Journal and tabloid New York Post, Murdoch has for decades commanded considerable influence in the Republican Party, matched by only a select few.

Zelenskiy secures $325m in new US aid even as Republican support wanes

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy worked to shore up US support for Ukraine on a whirlwind visit to Washington on Thursday, delivering an upbeat message on the war’s progress while facing new questions about the flow of US dollars that for 19 months have helped keep his troops in the fight against Russian forces.

The Ukrainian leader received a far quieter reception than the hero’s welcome he was given last year from Congress, but also won generally favorable comments on the next round of US aid he says he needs to stave off defeat.

Biden names Harris to lead first federal gun violence prevention office

The Biden administration has announced the nation’s first federal Office of Gun Violence Prevention. In a statement released Thursday, the White House said the office will be overseen by Kamala Harris’s office, directed by Stefanie Feldman, a longtime Biden gun policy adviser, and deputy-directed by Greg Jackson and Rob Wilcox, who have led national prevention efforts through the Community Justice Action Fund and Everytown for Gun Safety respectively.

The creation of this office is a continuation of the administration’s work on preventing high-profile mass shootings and local homicides that primarily affect lower-income Black and Latino communities.

“In the absence of that sorely-needed action, the Office of Gun Violence Prevention along with the rest of my Administration will continue to do everything it can to combat the epidemic of gun violence that is tearing our families, our communities, and our country apart,” Biden said in the announcement.

Detroit Three automakers enter final hours to avoid wider UAW strike

The Detroit Three automakers and the union representing the companies’ U.S. hourly workers on Friday entered the final hours to reach new labor agreements before the current coordinated strike expands to include more plants.

The UAW last week launched unprecedented, simultaneous strikes at one assembly plant each of General Motors (GM.N), Ford (F.N) and Chrysler parent Stellantis (STLAM.MI), but analysts expect any wider strike will include plants that build highly profitable pickup trucks such as Ford’s F-150, GM’s Chevy Silverado and Stellantis’ Ram.

McDonald’s to raise royalty fees for new franchised restaurants for first time in nearly 30 years

franchisees who add new restaurants will soon have to pay higher royalty fees.

The fast-food giant is raising those fees from 4% to 5%, starting Jan. 1. It’s the first time in nearly three decades that McDonald’s is hiking its royalty fees.

The change will not affect existing franchisees who are maintaining their current footprint or who buy a franchised location from another operator. It will also not apply to rebuilt existing locations or restaurants transferred between family members.

However, the higher rate will affect new franchisees, buyers of company-owned restaurants, relocated restaurants and other scenarios that involve the franchisor.

“While we created the industry we now lead, we must continue to redefine what success looks like and position ourselves for long-term success to ensure the value of our brand remains as strong as ever,” McDonald’s U.S. President Joe Erlinger said in a message to U.S. franchisees viewed by CNBC.

McDonald’s will also stop calling the payments “service fees,” and instead use the term “royalty fees,” which most franchisors favor.

George R. R. Martin, Jodi Picoult and other famous writers join Authors Guild in class action lawsuit against OpenAI

A group of famous fiction writers joined the Authors Guild in filing a class action suit against OpenAI on Wednesday, alleging the company’s technology is illegally using their copyrighted work.

The complaint claims that OpenAI, the company behind viral chatbot ChatGPT, is copying famous works in acts of “flagrant and harmful” copyright infringement and feeding manuscripts into algorithms to help train systems on how to create more human-like text responses.

George R.R. Martin, Jodi Picoult, John Grisham and Jonathan Franzen are among the 17 prominent authors who joined the suit led by the Authors Guild, a professional organization that protects writers’ rights. Filed in the Southern District of New York, the suit alleges that OpenAI’s models directly harm writers’ abilities to make a living wage, as the technology generates texts that writers could be paid to pen, as well as uses copyrighted material to create copycat work.

COVID-19 Virus Levels in Wastewater Have Dropped, According to Analysts

Wastewater COVID levels have shown a decline in recent weeks while the number of hospital admissions due to infections have seen an uptick.

The levels of SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes the COVID-19 infection, has dropped by 5 percent in the two weeks between Aug. 30 and Sept. 13, according to data from Biobot Analytics, a platform that tracks COVID-19 through wastewater. The presence of the virus rose in the Northeast, Midwest, and West, but declined in the South.

Amy Kirby, team lead for the National Wastewater Surveillance System at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), said in February 2022 that 40 to 80 percent of people with COVID-19 shed viral RNA in their feces, making wastewater and sewage “an important opportunity for monitoring the spread of infection.”

CDC data shows obesity prevalence more common in a growing number of states

According to data from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the prevalence of obesity is rising all across the nation.

The CDC data found that 22 states had a prevalence, or “proportion of adults with a body mass index (BMI) equal to or greater than 30,” of obesity over 35 percent in 2022. In comparison, 17 states had a prevalence of obesity over 35 percent in 2021.

“Obesity is a disease caused by many factors, including eating patterns, physical activity levels, sleep routines, genetics, and certain medications. This means that there is no one size fits all approach,” Dr. Karen Hacker, director of the CDC’s National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, said in a statement to CNN.

Other findings in the survey note differences in U.S. regions and their prevalences of obesity in 2022, with the Midwest having the highest at 35.8 percent, followed by the South at 35.6. The Northeast and the West had

White House to propose removing medical bills from credit reports

The Biden-Harris administration announced Thursday it has begun looking into removing medical debt from consumer credit reports in an effort to lessen the impact unexpected medical costs can have on people and help them recover from the expenses, which can be immense.

In a press release, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) said the proposal would help to “stop debt collectors from coercing people into paying bills they may not even owe, and ensure that creditors are not relying on data that is often plagued with inaccuracies and mistakes.”

Contact Lenses Can Hurt as Well as Help Your Vision

Contact lenses are a popular choice for vision correction, as they provide an unobstructed and natural view compared to glasses. However, like any medical device, they also carry a certain degree of risk to your eyesight—and can even cause blindness—if not used properly.

Contact Lenses and Infection Risk

One of the most common risks of wearing contact lenses is infection. Though serious infections leading to vision loss are rare, affecting 1 in 500 users annually, contact lenses can be the perfect breeding ground for harmful bacteria because they rest directly on the eye.

Colored Contacts Can Damage Sight

Colored contact lenses—a popular feature in Halloween costumes—can permanently damage eyesight, especially those bought online without a prescription.

Corneal Ulcers Carry Severe Consequences

Another risk associated with contact lens use is corneal ulcers, or open sores on the cornea. They can severely impair vision and, in rare cases, cause blindness.

Not Everyone Can Safely Wear Contacts

Some people are at higher risk for contact lens complications, according to Dr. Allen.

Those with one functioning eye face greater vision loss risks if issues occur. Also, people with dry eye disease or severe allergies may worsen their conditions with contacts.

“Moreover, individuals with a history of eye infections are at increased risk of complications,” Dr. Allen added. “In such cases, careful consideration and consultation with an eye care professional are crucial to determine the most suitable vision correction options and to avoid potential complications.”

Though convenient, contact lenses carry potential health risks that require proper hygiene and care. Seek medical attention immediately for any unusual eye symptoms like pain, redness, or vision changes.

Study Shows Chemical in Licorice Fights Pancreatic Cancer

Think licorice and you probably imagine a chewy black rope with a unique sweet flavor. This humble confection has just been found to contain a cancer-killing chemical.

Scientists from Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) recently published findings that a flavonoid in licorice root can inhibit the progression of pancreatic cancer. Researchers showed that this same licorice-based chemical may also enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy drugs used to treat pancreatic cancer.

The research was published in the international academic journal Phytomedicine and presented at the Annual Congress of the European Association for Cancer Research 2023 in Torino, Italy.

Consuming Aspartame Could Harm Memory of Offspring

Researchers from Florida State University found that those who regularly consume the artificial sweetener aspartame could experience learning and memory problems – and their children could be affected as well.

According to the study, published in Scientific Reports, the offspring of male mice who consumed aspartame at levels lower than the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) deems safe exhibited spatial learning and memory deficits.

Previous research published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences found a link between aspartame consumption and anxiety in mice. And the findings extended up to two generations.

One Reason to Do Your Own Research? Scammers

A good chunk of our ideas and assumptions about reality are based on a carefully crafted mirage

Often, we live our lives very happily and don’t look to change our minds in any way — but then something happens that shakes us up and compels us to “do our own research”

“Doing our own research” can be life-saving as ultimately, the responsibility to protect ourselves is ours

As we start learning about “how the world works,” we may discover that even the most trivial things that we have been taking for granted are not what they seem

A good example is citric acid: many people think it’s made from citric fruits but in reality, more than 90% of this popular food additive is made with toxic mold

Federal Government Relaunches COVID-19 Testing Program

The federal government will again launch a program to distribute free COVID-19 home test kits to Americans, said the Department of Health and Human Services on Wednesday.

“We will once again begin our program to provide Americans with an opportunity to request tests,” HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra said during an event at a Washington CVS pharmacy location, where he also took COVID-19 and influenza vaccines.

“We want them to be able to use those tests during this viral season … fall, winter, respiratory viral season,” Mr. Becerra said. He added in a statement that such “critical investments will strengthen our nation’s production levels of domestic at-home COVID-19 rapid tests and help mitigate the spread of the virus.”

Pfizer-Funded Study Shows Poor Effectiveness for COVID-19 Vaccine in Young Children

A new study funded by Pfizer found the company’s COVID-19 vaccine did not perform well in children under 5.

Children aged 6 months to 4 years are supposed to receive three shots of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. The number was increased from two when early testing showed little effectiveness.

Three doses of the Pfizer vaccine provided little protection against emergency room visits, urgent care encounters, or outpatient visits, according to the new study.

6 Reasons Why Dogs Put Their Ears Back

The eyes may be the mirror to a dog’s soul, and careful observations of both the mouth and the tail can yield all sorts of information about a dog’s intentions and emotional state — but a dog’s ears are a more complicated matter. Dog ears are more challenging to read and understand, and they usually have to be assessed in conjunction with other visual signals to make a useful interpretation. That is especially true when the dog’s ears are pulled back or held close to the head.

As a general rule, a dog’s level of attention can be determined by watching their ears: Erect ears facing forward indicate that they’re engaged, and slightly pulled-back ears signal that they’re feeling friendly; but dog ears laid tightly back against the head suggest a fearful or timid reaction.

Researchers dumped tons of coffee waste into a forest. This is what it looks like now.

One of the biggest problems with coffee production is that it generates an incredible amount of waste. Once coffee beans are separated from cherries, about 45% of the entire biomass is discarded.

So for every pound of roasted coffee we enjoy, an equivalent amount of coffee pulp is discarded into massive landfills across the globe. That means that approximately 10 million tons of coffee pulp is discarded into the environment every year.

When disposed of improperly, the waste can cause serious damage soil and water sources.

However, a new study published in the British Ecological Society journal Ecological Solutions and Evidence has found that coffee pulp isn’t just a nuisance to be discarded. It can have an incredibly positive impact on regrowing deforested areas of the planet.

In 2018, researchers from ETH-Zurich and the University of Hawaii spread 30 dump trucks worth of coffee pulp over a roughly 100′ x 130′ area of degraded land in Costa Rica. The experiment took place on a former coffee farm that underwent rapid deforestation in the 1950s.

The coffee pulp was spread three-feet thick over the entire area.

Another plot of land near the coffee pulp dump was left alone to act as a control for the experiment.

“The results were dramatic.” Dr. Rebecca Cole, lead author of the study, said. “The area treated with a thick layer of coffee pulp turned into a small forest in only two years while the control plot remained dominated by non-native pasture grasses.”

In just two years, the area treated with coffee pulp had an 80% canopy cover, compared to just 20% of the control area. So, the coffee-pulp-treated area grew four times more rapidly. Like a jolt of caffeine, it reinvigorated biological activity in the area.

The canopy was also four times taller than that of the control.

Teen with a fishing magnet found a safe full of cash. And then he returned it all to its owner.

A new trend in treasure hunting called magnet fishing has blown up over the past two years, evidenced by an explosion of YouTube channels covering the hobby. Magnet fishing is a pretty simple activity. Hobbyists attach high-powered magnets to strong ropes, drop them into waterways and see what they attract.

The hobby has caught the attention of law enforcement and government agencies because urban waterways are a popular place for criminals to drop weapons and stolen items after committing a crime. In 2019, a magnet fisherman in Michigan pulled up an antique World War I mortar grenade and the bomb squad had to be called out to investigate.

Fifteen-year-old George Tindale and his dad, Kevin, 52, of Grantham, Lincolnshire in the U.K., made an incredible find earlier this month when they used two magnets to pull up a safe that had been submerged in the River Witham.

George has a popular magnet fishing YouTube channel called “Magnetic G.”

After the father-and-son duo pulled the safe out of the murky depths, they cracked it open with a crowbar and found about $2,500 Australian dollars (US$1,800), a shotgun certificate and credit cards that expired in 2004. The Tindales used the name found on the cards to find the safe’s owner, Rob Everett.

Everett’s safe was stolen during an office robbery in 2000 and then dumped into the river. “I remember at the time, they smashed into a cabinet to get to the safe,” Everett said, according to The Daily Mail. “I was just upset that there was a nice pen on my desk, a Montblanc that was never recovered.”

The robber, who was a teenage boy, was apprehended soon after the crime because he left behind a cap with his name stitched inside.

The father and son met up with Everett to return his stolen money and the businessman gave George a small reward for his honesty. He also offered him an internship because of the math skills he displayed in the YouTube video when he counted the Australian dollars. “What’s good about it is, I run a wealth management company and… I’d love him to work for us,” Everett said.

Although the safe saga began with a robbery 22 years ago, its conclusion has left Everett with more faith in humanity.

“I was just amazed that they’d been able to track me down,” he said. “There are some really nice and good people in this world. They could have kept the money, they could have said they attempted to get hold of me.”

Missouri v. Biden: Massive “Whole-Of-Government” Illegal Censorship Conspiracy Exposed

This is a rat’s nest. This court case has surfaced at least 67 federal employees representing a dozen agencies, perhaps exposing the largest conspiracy in the history of our nation. This fish stinks from the head down because Biden is the only person who can call for a “whole-of-government” operation, who has been wont to do on multiple occasions.

Part of this conspiracy sought to run Dr. Joseph Mercola out of business, among others. In addition, the illegal attacks against Free Speech and the First Amendment are absolutely egregious.

But, this question needs to asked: what was the role of the Technocrats outside government? Were they willing participants or perhaps the drivers of the whole conspiracy in first place?  ⁃ TN Editor
