Today’s Top 5:

1.Harassment, Death Threats Against Web Designer Surge Since Supreme Court Decision Upholding Freedom of Speech

Lorie Smith, the Colorado website designer at the heart of the Supreme Court’s landmark 303 Creative v. Elenis June 30 decision upholding every American’s freedom of speech, is receiving a barrage of increasingly intense harassment, including serious death threats, following the 6–3 ruling.

“Especially in the last week, despite the victory last week, I do continue to face horrific attacks, people saying they hope I would be raped; they want to burn my house down; they know where I live, and they want to come kill me and my family,” Ms. Smith told The Epoch Times on July 5 in an exclusive interview.

“Our security team is monitoring all of the comments that come in very, very closely to determine the best way to protect Lorie and to take action consistent with the threat,” said Kellie Fiedorek, Senior Counsel and Government Affairs Director for the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), the public interest law firm that has represented Ms. Smith throughout her case.

“We cannot share any more about the internal conversations we are having, but it is deeply disheartening to see Lorie experience vicious harassment and death threats over her stand for all Americans’ free speech and the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision that just affirmed both those who agree and those who vehemently disagree with Lorie have the right to say what they believe without fear of government punishment,” Ms. Fiedorek said.

  1. More Mar-a-Lago search warrant information released in Trump classified docs case

Federal agents investigating former President Donald Trump‘s connection to classified materials told the judge who signed the search warrant for his Florida estate last year that they were concerned that the whereabouts of some documents were unknown, a new court filing shows.

A less redacted version of the search warrant affidavit made public Wednesday indicated that Justice Department officials became concerned after they viewed security camera video from Mar-a-Lago that they’d obtained from Trump’s company.

3.RFK Jr. Decries Biden Admin’s Withholding of Some JFK Assassination Records

On the afternoon of Friday before arguably one of the busiest holiday weekends in America, the Biden administration issued a memo announcing that due to national security, it was going to postpone the release of certain classified documents relevant to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy (JFK).

Despite the quiet announcement on the eve of the July 4th weekend, it sparked off outrage led by  Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (RFK Jr.) who has in recent times openly speculated that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) was behind his uncle’s assassination and that he could be in danger from the agency.

In a barrage of Twitter posts, Kennedy, who is gaining momentum against Joe Biden for the 2024 Democratic nomination for president, suggested a coverup.

4.Ninth Circuit Court Of Appeals Declares Ban On Recording Without Consent Unconstitutional

On Monday, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that a law prohibiting the recording of individuals without their explicit consent is unconstitutional, as it violates the First Amendment. The decision came after James O’Keefe, the former CEO of Project Veritas and Project Veritas Action Fund, filed a lawsuit in Portland, Oregon three years ago, arguing that the law in Oregon violates the US Constitution, particularly in the context of undercover investigative journalism.

5.Watchdog Group Warns Universities of Lawsuits If They Fail to Observe Supreme Court Affirmative Action Rulings

The Supreme Court has spoken on the constitutionality of using affirmative action in higher education admissions.

On June 29, the court ruled, in two separate cases, that for colleges and universities to use race in making admissions decisions is unlawful, violating the Equal Protection clause of the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Students for Fair Admissions was the plaintiff in the lawsuits, one against Harvard College (the undergraduate college of Harvard University) and one against the University of North Carolina.

The suits charged that the universities “employed and are employing racially and ethnically discriminatory policies and procedures in administering the undergraduate admissions program.”

The court’s conservative majority prevailed in both cases, with each decided along ideological lines: 6-2 in the action against Harvard University and 6-3 in the University of North Carolina suit. (Liberal justice Ketanji Brown recused herself from sitting on the Harvard case because she is a former member of the Harvard University Board of Overseers.)

Belarus president outlines deal with Wagner

Alexander Lukashenko says he doesn’t expect the private military company to cause any trouble in his country

Wagner troops could be used to defend Belarus after they relocate from Russia, where they took part in a failed revolt last month, President Alexander Lukashenko has said.

Military personnel attached to Evgeny Prigozhin’s private military company are being transferred to the country subject to “certain conditions,” including that they can be deployed instantly if they’re needed to “defend the state,” he explained.

“I’m absolutely not worried and not troubled that we’ll have a certain number of these fighters stationed here [in Belarus],” Lukashenko told journalists on Thursday.

How China Is Destroying American Farmland

North Carolina is the home of more than 2,000 large-scale hog farms, primarily clustered in the rural eastern region of the state. More than 200 of them are owned or operated by Smithfield Foods, the largest pork producer in the world

In 2013, Smithfield was sold to the WH Group, a Chinese pork conglomerate accused of feeding its hogs illegal chemicals. WH Group takes direction from the Chinese government, as “pork is considered a national-security issue in China”

The Chinese government uses private entities as proxies for state power. In 2011, it directed Chinese companies to buy foreign food producers and farmland. Over the next two years, Chinese nationals went from owning $81 million worth of American farmland to nearly $1.4 billion

Smithfield was an attractive acquisition because the cost of raising pork in North Carolina is about half that of raising them in China, due to lax environmental protections. In China, hog farmers must pay for wastewater treatment, digester systems to convert manure into a natural gas, and odor control systems to shield nearby residents from the stench

In 2014, hundreds of residents filed more than two dozen lawsuits against the WH Group arguing that the hog farms “made life unbearable.” Smithfield lost the five bellwether cases and settled the remaining cases out of court. Still, while sending a message of discontent, it doesn’t change how hogs are raised in North Carolina or anywhere else in the U.S.

89% of Frenchmen condemn the violence committed against security forces, leaving left-wing riot apologists in the tiny minority. A man was killed by a flash-bang grenade in Marseille. The GoFundMe for the police officer involved in the deadly shooting of Nahel M. reached €1.6 M. The Macron government proposed cracking down on free speech instead of the rioters.

The situation in France calmed Tuesday night, on the 8th night of unrest since the officer-involved death of 17-year-old driver Nahel, with only 16 arrests, including 7 in the Paris region. There were 116 fires on public roads, 78 vehicles burned and 8 buildings set on fire. 1,243 people have been indicted since June 30. Traveling overseas this summer? There’s huge demand for passports, so get yours ASAP

If you’re planning a summer getaway outside of the country, make sure you get your paperwork in order sooner rather than later.

Passports are in “unprecedented demand,” U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Thursday during a House Appropriations subcommittee budget hearing. In 2022, the State Department issued a record 22 million passports — and 2023 is “on track to break” that record, Blinken said.

The U.S. State Department is fielding half a million passport applications a week, Blinken said. “That’s 30 to 40% above last year, so it’s dramatic.”

The standard processing time for a passport is 10-13 weeks, and an expedited request takes about seven to nine weeks. That doesn’t include mailing time, which can take up to two weeks each way.

“Processing times fluctuate throughout the year depending on demand and we anticipate that they will rise, especially as we approach the busier travel season,” according to a State Department news release.

Going to a Show? Prepare to Surrender Your Data

You may be listening, but Big Business is watching — and collecting your data to learn your concert-going habits

CUSTOMER DATA IS a goldmine in the live music industry as promoters, venue operators, ticket marketplaces, and the artists themselves seek to learn more about their audiences and their habits to better serve them — and get them to spend more.

From the moment fans check out online all the way to when they walk through security and buy a beer, data collection is everywhere. Some venues use giveaway prompts at concerts to get concertgoers to provide their phone number, while something as simple as an admission bracelet can track which parts of a festival get the most foot traffic.

Google Declares It Will Scrape Entire Internet For AI ‘Learning’

Google updated its privacy policy over the weekend, explicitly saying the company reserves the right to scrape just about everything you post online to build its AI tools. “Google uses information to improve our services and to develop new products, features and technologies that benefit our users and the public,” the new Google policy says. “For example, we use publicly available information to help train Google’s AI models and build products and features like Google Translate, Bard, and Cloud AI capabilities.”

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Along with $25M Rate Increase, Utility Will Enforce Controversial “Time-of-Use” Billing Programs

According to a report published earlier this year, most utility consumers are NOT signing up for Time-of-Use (TOU) billing programs, which penalize consumers for using energy during “peak demand” hours.  This being the case, some American utilities have started to mandate them.

From KCUR:

Evergy’s Missouri customers will default to rates that spike up dramatically in late afternoon starting in October. While the company says most of its customers will save money, others will pay more. And all customers will have to watch when they use more power.

Variable rate time-of-use pricing will soon be inescapable for Evergy customers in Missouri. In one billing plan, the top rate will be roughly four times as expensive as the base rate, forcing consumers to pay close attention to the way they buy and use electricity.

You know how holiday stuff is expensive when you most want to buy it, but cheaper after the holidays?

The same dynamic will soon apply to what you pay for electricity on the Missouri side of the Kansas City area.

All of Evergy’s Missouri customers will see a steep price hike for the electricity they burn during the peak demand hours of late afternoon and early evening.

It’s called time-of-use pricing and Jim Busch, the director of industry analysis at the Missouri Public Service Commission, said it makes sense.

“When you look at the overall benefits to the consumers and the company and society as a whole,” he said, “it’s a better path to go down.”

Power companies already send out bills based on time-of-use rates in much of the western U.S. Evergy has allowed customers in both Missouri and Kansas to voluntarily opt-in to variable price billing for years. And the method is catching on, Busch.

Some Missouri Evergy customers, on the other hand, will see rates fluctuate dramatically. Under the default plan, customers will be charged 9 cents a kilowatt hour most of the time. But the rate vaults up to 38 cents between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. on summer evenings. That’s a 322% spike.

“That is a huge increase,” said Daniel Zimny-Schmitt at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. “There’s no way around that.”

Making Elon Proud: Kentucky Requires State-Backed EV Charging Stations to Use Tesla’s Plug

Global Censorship Machine Accelerates To Silence Climate ‘Solutions’ Debate

Social media “climate misinformation” policies are targeting a wide range of people on both the Right and Left who dispute official narratives about climate “solutions” preferred by the government and its powerful corporate backers.

In May, LinkedIn suspended the account of Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy after he posted several climate-related campaign messages.

In one message, Ramaswamy asserted that “fossil fuels are a requirement for human prosperity,” and in another, he wrote that if adherents of the “climate religion” really cared about the climate “they’d be worried about, say, shifting oil production to places like the U.S. and China.”

Big Tech election interference has begun,” Ramaswamy said.

Research Finds A New Potential Early Sign Of Alzheimer’s To Add To Your Radar

Research Finds A Link Between The Gut Microbiome & Preclinical Alzheimer’s

Dementia is currently the seventh leading cause of death and one of the major causes of disability globally among older people, with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) making up 60 to 70% of dementia cases.

There is currently no cure for AD. But the earlier you can spot signs of it, the better—and new insights on the gut microbiome’s relationship to dementia may help with early detection.

A recent study published in Science Translational Medicine found that the gut microbiomes of symptomatic patients with Alzheimer’s differed from those of cognitively healthy control individuals who ate a similar diet.

For the cross-sectional study, researchers took gut microbiome samples from 164 individuals—49 of whom had biomarker evidence of early, preclinical Alzheimer’s. Those with preclinical AD were more likely to have some specific gut bacteria than those who did not have preclinical AD.

Artemisinin from sweet wormwood treats not just malaria but also CANCER

A unique class of antimalarial drugs known as artemisinins, or just artemisinin, shows promise as a novel anti-cancer therapy.

Research published in the journal Pharmacology & Therapeutics explains that repurposing drugs for other purposes, such as artemisinin for cancer, “can significantly shorten new therapeutic discovery pathways, ensuring greater accessibility and affordability globally.”

“Cancer is a leading cause of death globally and the majority of cancer related deaths occur in Low and Middle Income Countries (LMICs) where conventional treatment options are often limited by financial cost,” the study further explains.

“Artemisinins have an excellent safety and tolerability profile as well as being affordable for deployment in Low and Middle Class Income Countries at around USD1 per daily dose. Robust, well designed clinical trials of artemisinin drug repurposing are indicated for a variety of different cancers and treatment settings.”

Study: Drinking Water From Nearly Half of Faucets Has Potentially Harmful Chemicals

Drinking water from nearly half of U.S. faucets likely contains “forever chemicals” that may cause cancer and other health problems, according to a government study released Wednesday.

The synthetic compounds known collectively as PFAS are contaminating drinking water to varying extents in large cities and small towns — and in private wells and public systems, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

Researchers described the study as the first nationwide effort to test for PFAS in tap water from private sources in addition to regulated ones. It builds on previous scientific findings that the chemicals are widespread, showing up in consumer products as diverse as nonstick pans, food packaging and water-resistant clothing and making their way into water supplies.

The Hidden Side of ‘Gender-Affirming Care’ Driving Transgender Mental Health Problems and Suicide

Rey is part of a growing number of “detransitioners” returning to the gender of their birth—now warning youth considering “gender-affirming care” not to do it. “While I understand transition does not go badly for everyone, many trans people can have health complications later in life. If you are young, please don’t do this to yourself. Transitioning is NOT for kids. Parents, don’t do this to your children! The risks are too high,” Rey wrote on Twitter.

“Gender-affirming care,” which includes the administration of hormones and sex reassignment surgery, is claimed by advocates to save lives, however, this proposed remedy may actually be what’s driving the high mortality rate in the transgender community.

Authors of a recent Danish study of transgender suicide wrote: “Transgender individuals may be exposed to systemic negativity regarding their trans identity in the form of bullying, discrimination, exclusion, and prejudice, which in turn may result in alienation and internalized stigma, mental health problems, and, ultimately, suicidal behavior.”

All these companies targeting kids with LGBT insanity

Members of the LGBT community largely have the same rights as other Americans, in light of the adoption in recent years of special protections for them. Rights for jobs, housing, health care and such are essentially the same. Of course one of the volatile battles just developing is over the rights of adults to decide children should have body mutilations to be transgender.

But they even, according to the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling just last week, cannot force others to adopt their beliefs, just like others are not allowed to do that, either.

So adults have wide latitude in adopting alternative sexual lifestyles and living them out.

But now, a report states, the promoters of the agenda are targeting children.

It is Just the News that said during the now-ended “Pride” month across America, multiple companies pushed the lifestyle choice to children through their products.

Caught with such promotions, and now the subject of boycott plans, were Target, Kohl’s and North Face.

A backlash to those offerings “resulted in Target removing some transgender merchandise,” the report said.

“Woke corporations can play ball with radical leftists all they want – it’s their right,” Doug Truax, of Restoration of America, said, “but they need to understand that vast numbers of Americans disagree with the fringe agendas and will take their spending elsewhere. The woke backlash already has begun, and I expect it to continue.”

One of the promoters of the leftist ideology was Build-A-Bear Workshop. It has a pride collection and promised to donate to support “diversity, equity and inclusion” campaigns.

Disney also has a pride collection for children, including Star Wars, Marvel, and The Little Mermaid rainbow-colored t-shirts,” the report said.

Further, the report said toy company Mattel has a “Pride” collection available for sale, of shirts, mugs and posters.

The former chief executive of Anheuser-Busch’s U.S. division warned that Bud Light will continue to see declines in sales if it avoids the controversy surrounding its decision to promote a campaign with a transgender influencer.

Why so Many Dogs and Cats Have Digestive Issues

Bad breath, foul-smelling poop, bloating, gas, diarrhea and vomiting, as well as food sensitivities, lack of energy and joint issues can all be signs of this common problem. The good news is, there’s an easy, fast-acting fix if you know what to look for.

Enzymes are tiny protein molecules found in every living cell; the two main types of enzymes most important to your pet’s well-being are metabolic and digestive enzymes produced by their own bodies. There are also enzymes found in live, fresh foods

Raw, fresh food contains enzymes; however, enzymes are fragile and easily destroyed by heat; pesticides and herbicides; food preservatives, additives, artificial colorings, and flavor enhancers; and other influences

Ultraprocessed pet foods lack healthy natural enzymes; production of both canned food and kibble requires very high temperatures that destroy any live enzymes present in the food

Symptoms of digestive enzyme deficiency in dogs and cats include a variety of digestion-related issues, along with food sensitivities, lack of energy, and compromised joint health

The best way to boost your pet’s digestive enzyme supply is to feed as much living, raw food as possible, along with supplemental enzymes, if needed
