Next Bank to Fail? Shares in Credit Suisse Fall to All-Time Low After Bank Admits ‘Material Weakness’

Warnings have emerged of a wider banking collapse on the backs of the failure of the Silicon Valley Bank, with a financial expert who predicted the 2008 financial crisis warning that Credit Suisse may be the next to fall after the Swiss bank’s shares fell to an all-time low on Tuesday.

Switzerland’s second-largest bank, Credit Suisse, saw its shares fall by five per cent in early trading on Tuesday to a record low for the company after confirming some $8 billion (£6.6 billion) in losses in 2022 and admitting that there was “material weakness” in its accounting system for financial reports

‘Total Loss’ After ‘Reckless’ Russian Jets Collide With USAF Drone Over Black Sea, Says DOD

A U.S. drone was lost over international waters on Tuesday after a pair of Russian fighter jets flew dangerously close to the aircraft, dumping fuel onto the drone and then striking its propeller.

A MQ-9 ‘Reaper’ drone — an unmanned aerial surveillance and attack drone — was lost over the Black Sea on Tuesday, the U.S. European Command (EUCOM) said, with U.S. Air Forces Europe blaming the loss on what amounted to an attack by Russian fighter jets.

Xi Jinping: China Will Be ‘Active’ in Reforming ‘Global Governance’

Genocidal Chinese dictator Xi Jinping vowed in a speech at the conclusion of China’s annual legislative sessions on Monday that the Communist Party would seek a more prominent role on the world stage pursuing the “reform and construction of the global governance system.”

China under his third tenure as president – to which he was unanimously “elected” by the National People’s Congress (NPC), the federal-level legislature, last week – Xi said, would work to “create a favorable international environment for our country’s development.”

Trilateral Commission calls 2023 ‘Year One’ of new world order

As retired foreign ministers, ambassadors, CEOs, bankers and academics gathered at the secretive Trilateral Commission’s first global plenary meeting in India, perhaps the most influential individual sat quietly off to the side, listening.

James Baker, director of the Pentagon’s Office of Net Assessment, was not even on the list of participants at the Taj Palace Hotel in New Delhi. But his takeaways from the meeting could find their way into policies that shape the world.

Baker is the successor to legendary defense strategist Andrew Marshall, who headed the office for 42 years. He is responsible for providing the Secretary of Defense with an assessment of U.S. military capabilities relative to other actors 20 to 30 years down the road.

One particular speech may have caught Baker’s attention, for it captured the essence of the three-day discussion, held from Friday through Sunday. “The Biden administration is trying to convince the world that there is this titanic struggle between autocracies and democracies. I am skeptical about that,” a speaker said. Instead, the world is fragmented, with countries — including the U.S. — looking out for their self-interests, the speaker added.

The Trilateral Commission is a nongovernmental organization that seeks to deepen understanding between the U.S., Europe and Asia.

The speaker, who cannot be identified according to commission rules, went on: “Three decades of globalization — defined as integrated, free-market based and deflationary — has been replaced by what will be a multidecade period of globalization defined as fragmented, not-free-market-based but industrial-policy based and structurally inflationary. This year, 2023, is Year One of this new global order.”

At the core of this shift is the U.S. Instead of committing to a neoliberal, free-market economy, the U.S. government is driving the economy and key industries toward a set of objectives, such as domestic equity at home and competition with China, the speaker said.

The perpetrators at the top are eyes-wide-open, Those carrying out their evil schemes are just plain stupid. Welcome to Technocracy.

Evacuations Ordered as Federal Agency Warns California at ‘High’ Risk of ‘Catastrophic’ Flooding

Portions of Southern California were evacuated on Tuesday after yet another winter storm hit California, coming days after thousands of people were evacuated hundreds of miles to the north.

Officials in Santa Barbara County, located along the central-southern coast, said in an alert that residents who live near several burn scars should evacuate and said that roads could be cut off or destroyed. Combined with rain, burn scars from fires can trigger flash flooding and mudslides.

“An EVACUATION ORDER has been issued for the identified properties and areas in south Santa Barbara County associated with the Alisal, Cave, and Thomas Fires,” the alert said. “Residents in these areas should leave now.”

It advised to residents: “DO NOT attempt to drive while it is dark or raining heavily, roads may be damaged or your car may be swept away by moving water or debris” and that “roads leading in and out of the Sisquoc and Tepusquet areas could be damaged by this storm. Residents of those areas should either leave or prepare to sustain themselves in case roads become impassable.

James Comer: Treasury Reports Show Biden Family Made Millions from Chinese Company After 2016

The Biden family business received a $3 million wire transfer from a Chinese energy company and subsequent payments after President Joe Biden left the vice presidency in 2017, House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-KY) announced upon receiving suspicious activity reports from the Treasury this week.

U.S. banks have flagged over 150 SARs from Hunter and James Biden that included “large” amounts of money flagged for further review. According to a 2020 Senate report, SARs “often contain evidence of potential criminal activities, such as money laundering and fraud.”

Report: Private Equity Giants Circle SVB Assets

Equity giants Apollo Global Management Inc. and Blackstone Inc. have reportedly stepped forward to examine a book of loans held by Silicon Valley Bank (SVB), the failed California lender seized by federal regulators last week.

Bloomberg reports its sources say Apollo and Blackstone, between them two of the world’s largest alternative asset managers, are joining investors circling SVB, according to people who asked not to be identified discussing confidential information.

Shareholder Lawsuit Accuses Silicon Valley Bank Executives of Fraud

Shareholders of the collapsed Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) have filed a class action lawsuit against the institution, its CEO Greg Becker, and CFO Daniel Beck, alleging violations of securities laws by concealing the bank’s vulnerability to a bank run.

The shareholders claim in a complaint (pdf) filed Monday in federal court in San Jose, California that SVB and its executives failed to disclose how rising interest rates would undermine the bank’s business model and leave it worse off than banks with different client bases.

The lightning-fast collapse of SVB came after it took a $1.8 billion loss on a forced $21 billion bond liquidation last week and then announced it was looking to raise $2.25 billion in capital to fill the hole.

Spooked depositors rushed to withdraw their money in a classic bank run, sending SVB shares—and those of other banks—plunging.

Judge Denies Requests From Jan. 6 Defendants to Cross-Examine FBI Agent on Leaked Messages

Defendants in the ongoing Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol Breach trial suffered a defeat on Monday, as the court ordered that the defendants may not cross-examine an FBI agent for most of the defense attorneys’ allegations that spawned from internal FBI messages inadvertently leaked in court.

Judge Timothy Kelly, a Trump-appointed judge, on Monday addressed allegations made by attorneys of the Jan. 6 defendants that targeted leaked internal FBI messages, which were revealed in court when Nick Smith, a defense attorney representing Ethan Nordean, cross-examined FBI Special Agent Nicole Miller on Thursday last week.

The judge denied all but one of the defendant’s arguments about the leaked messages. That leaves a narrowed space for the defendants to maneuver should they wish to upend the trial based on these messages alone.

Watch: Left-Wing Activists Smash Windows, Are Arrested at UC Davis Charlie Kirk Event

Left-wing and LGBTQ activists at UC Davis were arrested after vandalizing university property on Tuesday during an event featuring Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. The incident came just hours after UC Davis chancellor Gary S. May declared Kirk a “proponent of hate” and encouraged students to “neutralize and negate” TPUSA’s influence on campus.

Protestors carrying banners that read, “Queers Bash Back,” and, “Bash Fash,” were seen on video smashing glass windows while police officers tried to fend them off.

Joe Biden Goes Around Congress, Directs AG Garland to Pursue Universal Background Checks

During a Tuesday gun control announcement, President Joe Biden asked Attorney General Merrick Garland to act where Congress has not and take the U.S. “as close as possible” to universal background checks.

The Guardian reported that Biden continues to call on Congress to pass universal background check legislation but noted that he is not waiting on Congress. Rather, his executive order directs the AG “to take every lawful action possible to move us as close as we can to universal background checks without legislation.”

NPR noted Biden saying his executive order promotes “the safe storage of firearms” and “expands public awareness campaigns” regarding red flag laws, which can be used to have firearms seized from a gun owner.

EXCLUSIVE: Investigations Accuse Family Court Judges of Sending Children Into Danger

The murder of at least a dozen children in the past three months puts a tragic spotlight on a disturbing pattern of an American court system that appears to be deliberately putting custody in the hands of a dangerous parent.

According to the Center For Judicial Excellence, a national organization that closely tracks the trend, more than 900 children have been killed by one of their parents in the United States since 2008.

A study of the murders shows that a vast majority of the children were killed by a parent who was granted either sole or shared custody by a judge despite there being either strong evidence or a conviction of child abuse against them.

It also shows that the murders are mostly committed by fathers. Out of the 53 children murdered since 2022 after a custody switch to the fathers, only 7 were mothers.

Lyme: The Government Has Been Making Bugs More Deadly

In her book, “Bitten: The Secret History of Lyme Disease and Biological Weapons,” Kris Newby reviews the circumstantial evidence suggesting the organism that causes Lyme disease may originally have been developed as a biological weapon

An estimated 476,000 Americans are diagnosed with and treated for Lyme disease each year, and prevalence is rising

Lyme disease is transmitted by ticks (and sometimes other biting insects) infected with the bacteria Borrelia burgdorferi. There are about two dozen species of B. burgdorferi with hundreds of strains worldwide, many of which are resistant to antibiotics

Ticks can also carry other pathogens, and coinfections are another reason why Lyme disease is so difficult to treat

A major challenge with Lyme disease is that its symptoms imitate so many other disorders, including multiple sclerosis (MS), arthritis, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia and even Alzheimer’s disease, making proper identification difficult and time consuming

Vaping Causes More DNA Damage Than Regular Cigarettes

A 2023 study demonstrates that vaping triggers more DNA damage in the mouth than traditional cigarettes; those who used sweet, flavored pods had the highest DNA damage followed by those using fruit or mint flavors

Vaping affects multiple organ systems, including nearly immediate changes to endothelial cells, which is one of the first changes seen in developing heart disease. Other data show flavored pods may trigger changes in the brain, lungs, heart and colon

During the COVID-19 pandemic, young people who vaped had an increased risk of testing positive for SARS-CoV-2 and having symptoms of COVID-19. A 2022 study found those who vaped also had more severe complications, including death, than those who did not smoke or vape

Data also show that bystanders are affected by vape toxins, demonstrating an increase in bronchitis-type symptoms and shortness of breath; another study showed bystanders had similar levels of cotinine — a measure of the amount of nicotine the body absorbs — as people who are exposed to traditional secondhand cigarette smoke

Moody’s Cuts Outlook for U.S. Banking System to Negative

Moody’s Investors Service cut its outlook for the U.S. banking system to negative from stable and placed six U.S. banks on review for potential credit rating downgrades.

“We have changed to negative from stable our outlook on the US banking system to reflect the rapid deterioration in the operating environment following deposit runs at Silicon Valley Bank (SVB), Silvergate Bank, and Signature Bank (SNY) and the failures of SVB and SNY,” Moody’s said in a report released Monday.

The ratings agency warned that there was still a risk of bank runs at U.S. banks with substantial unrealized losses.

Should You Be Worried About Your Money in the Bank? Experts Sound Off

Some financial experts weighed in on whether Americans should feel worried about the safety of their money amid several bank collapses in recent days as some consumers expressed concerns about their deposits, their bank, and the American banking system.

While President Joe Biden said Monday that “Americans can have confidence that the banking system is safe. Your deposits will be there when you need them,” that hasn’t stopped people from speculating on social media and elsewhere. At the same time, the Federal Reserve, U.S. Treasury Department, and Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation have said they moved quickly to stop contagion after Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank collapsed in a bid to ease possible “bank runs.”

FBI Admits to Buying Location Data on Americans Without Obtaining Warrants “for a specific national security pilot project”

Collecting data on people of all ages and often without their full knowledge and/or consent has become commonly referred to as “Surveillance Capitalism”.  Businesses have been doing it for many years and often selling and/or sharing this data with whoever wants it.  Since an increasing number of American municipalities have officially become “smart cities” and/or are installing data collecting technologies in them, including utility “smart” meters (electric, gas, and water), 5G, etc., companies as well as government agencies will have more opportunities to collect, analyze, share, and/or sell data on Americans including to the FBI which has purchased it before.  Creeped out yet?

From ArsTechnica:

FBI finally admits to buying location data on Americans, horrifying experts

FBI director denied that the agency currently purchases location data.

At a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing yesterday, FBI Director Christopher Wray confirmed for the first time that the agency has in the past purchased the location data of US citizens without obtaining a warrant, Wired reported.

This revelation, which has alarmed privacy advocates, came after Sen. Ron Wyden (D–Ore.) asked Wray directly, “Does the FBI purchase US phone-geolocation information?” Wray’s response tiptoed around the question but provided a rare insight into how the FBI has used location data to surveil Americans without any court oversight.

“To my knowledge, we do not currently purchase commercial database information that includes location data derived from Internet advertising,” Wray said. “I understand that we previously—as in the past—purchased some such information for a specific national security pilot project. But that’s not been active for some time.”

Americans are protected against unreasonable searches under the Fourth Amendment, and the Supreme Court has said that government agencies accessing location data without a warrant can be considered in violation of Fourth Amendment rights. But privacy advocates like the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) have continually found evidence that federal agencies, including the FBI, have relied on a legal loophole to continue purchasing location data that agencies otherwise may not legally be able to access.

EXCLUSIVE: ATF Gains Financial Information on Potential Gun Buyers for Warrantless Tracking, Documents Show

The federal government has been using Americans’ income and gun purchases to conduct warrantless tracking and deny Second Amendment rights. Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) gave salary estimates to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as the reason to have people’s firearms purchases monitored.

Erich Pratt, senior vice president of Gun Owners of America (GOA), told The Epoch Times that the ATF’s activities “monitoring innocent people” is a serious problem. “Congress needs to rein in this rogue agency by either exercising oversight over it or abolishing the unconstitutional agency altogether,” said Pratt.

These revelations come from new documents, viewed by The Epoch Times which it received from its Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit. The latest production from the FOIA has hundreds of pages—many redacted—showing ATF agents requesting warrantless surveillance by the FBI for lawful reasons such as low salaries, past firearm purchases, and sending “bizarre” messages.

The Epoch Times exclusively reported in January about the FBI’s secret monitoring service that tracks people by the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) for gun purchases for mere “potential violations of law.”

Credit-Card Companies Think Twice About Tracking Purchases at Gun Stores
Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover have decided to pause plans specifically designed to track purchases in gun stores.

This comes after Discover previously announced it intended to move forward with the implementation of a new merchant category code (MCC) created for tracking any purchases made through stores that sell, among other things, firearms.

The decision to pause comes after pushback in the forms of bills designed to prevent financial institutions from requiring the use of a firearms-specific MCC to track purchases began making their way through various state legislatures.

“There are bills advancing in several states related to the use of this new code. If passed, the result will be an inconsistency in how this ISO standard could be applied by merchants, issuers, acquirers, and networks,” said a Mastercard spokesman. “It’s for that reason that we have decided to pause work on the implementation of the firearms-specific [MCC].”

Discover, meanwhile, said its reasoning for the pause was “to continue alignment and interoperability with the industry.” Visa said it did so because of “significant confusion and legal uncertainty.”

The gun-purchase-tracking scheme, if it were it implemented, would “create a registry of gun owners that [gun-control groups] have long sought and provide them with another tool to attack lawful industry when firearms are used in crime,” as reported by the NRA Institute for Legislative Action (ILA).

Legislation to counter this disingenuous attempt at a gun registry has been moving through multiple states, including Florida and Texas.

Biden’s Green Energy Clampdown on Washing Machines, Refrigerators Sparks Concern

The Biden administration’s new “energy-efficiency standards” for refrigerators and washing machines have sparked concern among industry experts who say the rules could end up costing manufacturers and consumers more at a time when energy costs have soared.

The Department of Energy (DOE) last month proposed new efficiency standards for washing machines, claiming that they would “lower household energy costs” while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and helping to combat the “climate crisis.”

Under the proposed rules (pdf), which would take effect in 2027, washing machines and refrigerators would be required to meet a more stringent set of energy efficiency standards and use considerably less water.

The department would also prevent manufacturers from “undercutting those playing by the rules” by providing “inferior-quality products.”

Ohio Sues Norfolk Southern over Toxic Train Derailment

Ohio filed a lawsuit against railroad Norfolk Southern to make sure it pays for the cleanup and environmental damage caused by a fiery train derailment on the Ohio-Pennsylvania border last month, the state’s attorney general said Tuesday.

The federal lawsuit also seeks to force the company to pay for groundwater and soil monitoring in the years ahead and economic losses in the village of East Palestine and surrounding areas, said Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost.

GARDENING, FARMING & HOMESTEADING

An Invasive Worm That Could Destroy Your Garden

Please read this post and make note of it so you won’t have to spend hours researching if you end up having the problem of what some call “jumping worms” . This destructive invasive worm is making its way across the United States and even into Canada.

They rapidly

  • eat all of the organic matter near the surface,
  • sucking up nutrients,
  • often eating through plant roots,
  • undermining plants by loosening the top layer of soil, and
  • totally destroying good soil structure and
  • leaving the soil bare.

At the same time adults are laying cocoons (that encase the eggs and are the size of a mustard seed) into the soil to hatch next year’s worms.

They can destroy your garden. At the very least it can make gardening difficult.
