Vaccinated Minnesota Vikings player was hospitalized for COVID-19

USA Today – A Minnesota Vikings player was hospitalized Tuesday night due to COVID-19 as the team continues to struggle with the virus throughout the week.

“One of our players that was vaccinated, he had to go to the ER last night because of COVID. It’s serious stuff,” head coach Mike Zimmer said Wednesday at a news conference. “Like 29 guys are getting tested because of close contact, including myself.”

Zimmer declined to name the hospitalized player, but ESPN and NFL Network reported that it was offensive lineman Dakota Dozier. Dozier, who is vaccinated, was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list last Friday.

Dozier is now in stable condition, according to Zimmer, who said the situation was “scary.”

Enforcement a Huge Challenge for Biden’s Vast Vaccine Mandate

Daily Signal – If the Biden administration’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate for private employers survives legal challenges, it will include criminal prosecution for employees who lie about their vaccine status and thousands in fines for companies that don’t comply.

But enforcing the mandate covering 84.2 million Americans working for 164,000 different businesses and other organizations could pose a significant challenge and might rely on employees’ snitching on bosses and colleagues.

The designated enforcer for the vaccine mandate is the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA, a relatively small federal agency with 1,850 inspectors, as The Wall Street Journal reports. These include federally approved state inspectors.

“To help with implementation, they are requiring employers to collect and retain documentation of every worker’s vaccination status and COVID test results,” Doug Badger, a senior fellow for policy studies at The Heritage Foundation, told The Daily Signal. Elon Musk’s Net Worth Takes $50 Billion Hit in Two Days After CEO Contemplates Selling Off 10 Percent of Company Stock

Epoch Times – Elon Musk’s net worth has plunged $50 billion in just two days after the Tesla CEO asked his Twitter followers whether he should sell 10 percent of his stake in the company, Bloomberg reports.

Musk, the world’s richest person, took to the social media platform on Nov. 6 to pitch a poll with his 63.1 million followers in response to a “billionaires’ tax” proposed by Senate Democrats.

The proposed legislation, unveiled in late October, would require roughly 200 U.S. companies to pay a minimum 15 percent tax rate and aims to prevent the largest and most profitable company’s across America from avoiding having to pay taxes.

Specifically, the bill would ensure that companies making more than $1 billion in profits annually pay the 15 percent minimum tax rate on those profits.

Lawmakers believe it will create a more even playing field and fair tax system and generate “hundreds of billions in revenue” over the next 10 years, which can be reinvested into the U.S. economy and give it a much-needed competitive boost

“Much is made lately of unrealized gains being a means of tax avoidance, so I propose selling 10% of my Tesla stock,” Musk wrote on Twitter, adding, “Do you support this?”

“I will abide by the results of this poll, whichever way it goes,” Musk said, before informing his Twitter followers, “I do not take a cash salary or bonus from anywhere. I only have stock, thus the only way for me to pay taxes personally is to sell stock.”

Approximately 57.9 percent of Musk’s Twitter followers said they supported him in selling off 10 percent of his company’s stocks, while 42.1 percent said they did not.

As of June 30, Musk’s shareholding in Tesla came to about 170.5 million shares and selling 10 percent would amount to close to $21 billion based on Friday’s closing, according to Reuters calculations.

NJ Senate President Stephen Sweeney concedes election loss to GOP trucker Edward Durr

Democratic New Jersey Senate President Stephen Sweeney bowed to the inevitable Wednesday night, finally conceding that he had lost his bid for reelection to Republican furniture truck driver Edward Durr — a political novice who spent a relative pittance on his campaign.

“I of course accept the results,” Sweeney said during a news conference at the State House in Trenton. “I want to congratulate Mr. Durr and wish him the best of luck.”

Sweeney, the most powerful Democratic politician in New Jersey over the last decade and the longest-serving state Senate president, blamed his loss on a “red wave” that also saw Gov. Phil Murphy barely hold off Republican challenger Jack Ciattarelli to become the first Democrat re-elected governor of the Garden State since Brendan Byrne in 1977.

Though most media outlets had called the race for Durr last week, Sweeney held off on conceding, insisting that he would wait until all the votes were counted.

In the end, Sweeney lost about 2,000 votes after spending approximately $305,000 on his campaign. Durr, by contrast, spent around $2,300, according to a state Election Law Enforcement Commission document filed online last week.

On Wednesday, Sweeney declined to say whether he would try to win back his soon-to-be former state Senate seat in 2023 or run for New Jersey governor in 2025 — but he did say that he plans to stay “fully involved in public affairs.”

Arrests of Illegal Immigrants at US–Mexico Border Set New October Record

Epoch Times – Apprehensions along the U.S.–Mexico border in October set a new record for the

month, unpublished data obtained by The Epoch Times show.

Border Patrol logged about 163,000 arrests of illegal immigrants at the northern and

southern borders, according to preliminary data that doesn’t include Customs and

Border Protection’s Office of Field Operations (OFO). While arrests at the U.S.–

Canadian border are typically less than 100 each month, the OFO has recently

recorded at least 5,096 arrests per month.

While the total apprehensions are down from the previous month, they established a

new record for October, easily clearing the 91,410 arrests recorded in October of 1999

and well above the figures seen during recent administrations.

“It’s an improvement, but it’s still four or five times the level that we saw during the

Obama or Trump administrations,” Steven Kopits, president of the Princeton Policy

Advisors, told The Epoch Times.

900,000 Children 5-11 Have Gotten Pfizer’s COVID-19Vaccine: White House

About 900,000 kids aged 5 to 11 will have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in their first week of eligibility, the White House said Wednesday, providing the first glimpse at the pace of the school-aged vaccination campaign.

Final clearance for the shots was granted by federal regulators on Nov. 2, with the first doses to kids beginning in some locations the following day

The estimated increase in vaccinations in elementary school age children appears similar to a jump seen in May, when adolescents ages 12 to 15 became eligible for shots.

Now nearly 20,000 pharmacies, clinics and physicians’ offices are administering the doses to younger kids, and the Biden administration estimates that by the end of Wednesday more than 900,000 of the kid doses will have been administered. Additionally about 700,000 first-shot appointments are also scheduled for the coming days.

About 28 million 5 to 11 year-olds are now eligible for the low-dose Pfizer vaccine. Kids who get their first of two shots by the end of next week will be fully vaccinated by Christmas.

The administration is encouraging schools to host vaccine clinics on site to make it even easier for kids to get shots. The White House is also asking schools to share information from “trusted messengers” like doctors and public health officials to combat misinformation around the vaccines.

An initial surge in demand for vaccinations was expected from parents who have been waiting for the chance to protect their younger kids, especially before the holidays.

Texas Pharma Company Inflated Prices Over 400 Times Above Cost to Claim Fraudulent Reimbursements: DOJ

Epoch Times – The Department of Justice has filed a complaint against a Houston-based company for falsely inflating pharmaceutical ingredient prices to over 400 times the actual cost for the purposes of defrauding TRICARE, a federal health care program. According to a press release on Nov. 8, the DOJ filed the complaint under the False Claims Act against Professional Compounding Centers of America Inc. (PCCA), for blowing up Average Wholesale Prices (AWPs) of pharma ingredients that are used in compound drugs. After purchasing ingredients from PCCA, compounding pharmacies would then submit these inflated prices for reimbursements from TRICARE. Suppliers like PCCA establish and report the AWPs for ingredients to pricing compendia used by health care programs like TRICARE and insurance companies. TRICARE provides insurance for active-duty military personnel, military retirees, and military dependents. Based partially on the reported AWPs, TRICARE would calculate the amounts of reimbursements distributed to pharmacies.

Veterans Day History

What is Veterans Day?

Veterans Day gives Americans the opportunity to celebrate the bravery and sacrifice of all U.S. veterans. However, most Americans confuse this holiday with Memorial Day, reports the Department of Veterans Affairs.

What’s more, some Americans don’t know why we commemorate our Veterans on Nov.11. It’s imperative that all Americans know the history of Veterans Day so that we can honor our former service members properly.

History of Veterans Day

Veterans Day, formerly known as Armistice Day, was originally set as a U.S. legal holiday to honor the end of World War I, which officially took place on November 11, 1918. In legislation that was passed in 1938, November 11 was “dedicated to the cause of world peace and to be hereafter celebrated and known as ‘Armistice Day.'” As such, this new legal holiday honored World War I veterans.

In 1954, after having been through both World War II and the Korean War, the 83rd U.S. Congress — at the urging of the veterans service organizations — amended the Act of 1938 by striking out the word “Armistice” and inserting the word “Veterans.” With the approval of this legislation on June 1, 1954, Nov. 11 became a day to honor American veterans of all wars.

In 1968, the Uniforms Holiday Bill ensured three-day weekends for federal employees by celebrating four national holidays on Mondays: Washington’s Birthday, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and Columbus Day. Under this bill, Veterans Day was moved to the fourth Monday of October. Many states did not agree with this decision and continued to celebrate the holiday on its original date. The first Veterans Day under the new law was observed with much confusion on Oct. 25, 1971.

Finally on September 20, 1975, President Gerald R. Ford signed a law which returned the annual observance of Veterans Day to its original date of Nov. 11, beginning in 1978. Since then, the Veterans Day holiday has been observed on Nov. 11.

The difference between Veterans Day and Memorial Day?

Memorial Day honors service members who died in service to their country or as a result of injuries incurred during battle. Deceased veterans are also remembered on Veterans Day but the day is set aside to thank and honor living veterans who served honorably in the military – in wartime or peacetime.
