2.Biden Officials Likely Violated First Amendment on Social Media: 5th Circuit Court

The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled on Friday that several Biden administration officials had likely breached the First Amendment by pressuring social media companies to moderate or take down content they deemed problematic.

But the three-judge panel of the New Orleans-based 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals narrowed much of an injunction issued by a Louisiana judge that restricted Democratic President Joe Biden’s administration from communicating with social media companies.

The court said that the White House, Surgeon General, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the FBI “likely coerced or significantly encouraged social media platforms to moderate content” in violation of the First Amendment.

3.Fulton County Grand Jury Recommended Charges Against Sen. Lindsey Graham, 2 Former GOP Senators

Graham responds, says report is ‘troubling for the country’

A grand jury in Fulton County, Georgia, had recommended criminal charges against Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) as well as former GOP Sens. Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue, according to a report that was released Friday.

Portions of the report were released earlier this year (pdf), but a judge had delayed its release until last month’s indictment of former President Donald Trump and 18 others. The panel also recommended charges against retired Lt. Gen Michael Flynn, a former Trump national security adviser, and Boris Epshteyn, also a top adviser to the 45th president.

The special grand jury panel said it heard from some 75 witnesses before completing a report in December with recommendations for Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis on charges related to efforts after the 2020 presidential election. Ms. Willis had said she needed the panel’s subpoena power to compel the testimony of witnesses who might otherwise not have been willing to appear.

4.House Judiciary Probing Office of Special Counsel Jack Smith

The special counsel’s office allegedly coerced a lawyer to influence his client in a Trump case

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) sent a letter to special counsel Jack Smith after launching an inquiry into one of Mr. Smith’s top aides.

Mr. Smith was appointed special counsel last November on matters related to the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol breach events, and the Department of Justice has since brought cases against more than 1,000 citizens who were present at the Capitol that day. He is also prosecuting two criminal cases against former President Donald Trump, who is now campaigning for a 2024 presidential run.

The probe comes after the former lawyer of a witness in one of the Trump cases revealed in a new filing that he was threatened with prosecution by Mr. Smith’s office.

5.IRS Launches ‘Sweeping, Historic’ Tax Enforcement Crackdown Using AI

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has announced that, thanks to a new funding boost, it’s launching a “sweeping, historic” tax enforcement initiative using artificial intelligence and other cutting-edge technologies to catch tax evaders more effectively.

“There is a sea change taking place at the IRS in every aspect of our operations,” IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel said in a Sept. 8 statement, which notes that the tax agency has completed a top-to-bottom review of its enforcement efforts and is girding to catch people “abusing the nation’s tax laws,” thanks in part to cutting-edge tech.

“The changes will be driven with the help of improved technology as well as Artificial Intelligence that will help IRS compliance teams better detect tax cheating, identify emerging compliance threats and improve case selection tools to avoid burdening taxpayers with needless ‘no-change’ audits,” Mr. Werfel said.

China-Based Hackers Impersonated US Voters With AI-generated Propaganda During 2022 Elections: Microsoft

China-based hackers impersonated American voters online and used artificial intelligence (AI) to create and promote divisive online content during the 2022 midterm elections, according to a report by Microsoft.

The effort was part of a series of covert influence operations by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) intended to mimic U.S. voters from across the political spectrum and create controversy along racial, economic, and ideological lines, according to the Sept. 7 report.

“Ahead of the 2022 U.S. midterms, Microsoft and industry partners observed CCP-affiliated social media accounts impersonating U.S. voters—new territory for CCP-affiliated [influence operations],” the report reads.

U.S.-Vietnam relations = It takes one communist to know another communist. In Hanoi, Biden Deepens Relations With Vietnam, Hoping to Expand Economic Reach Into China’s Backyard

President Joe Biden arrived in Vietnam on Sept. 10 after wrapping up his meetings at the G20 summit in India. Upon his arrival, the president participated in a bilateral meeting with Communist Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong, and both leaders formally announced an elevated partnership, sending a strong message to China.

The Vietnamese government, promoting the United States to its highest level of relations, referred to it as a “comprehensive strategic partner.”

So far, only China, Russia, India, and South Korea have achieved this degree of partnership with Hanoi.

‘Future Is Digital’ — EU Chief Calls for Global Digital IDs and New U.N. Body to Govern Artificial Intelligence

The world needs international digital ID systems like coronavirus passports and Artificial Intelligence should be regulated by a global body similar to the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Sunday.

Speaking before the “One Future” session of the G20 Summit in India, the top Eurocrat declared that the “future will be digital” and therefore more globalist institutions will be needed to set boundaries and regulations.

The German politician, who before ascending to her unelected role as EU Commission President served as Berlin’s Defence Minister, said: “Today I want to focus on AI and digital infrastructure. As it has been described, AI has risks but also offers tremendous opportunities. The crucial question is how to harness a rapidly changing technology.”

Powerful Earthquake in Morocco Kills More Than 2,000

A rare, powerful earthquake in Morocco has killed more than 2,000 people and injured another 2,000 or more, with the death toll expected to rise as rescuers struggle to reach survivors through the rubble of toppled buildings.

The magnitude-6.8 quake, Morocco’s deadliest in more than 60 years and the strongest in 120 years, struck the country’s High Atlas mountains late on Sept. 8, damaging buildings in Marrakech, the closest city to the epicenter, which was some 45 miles southwest.

The country’s Interior Ministry said on Sept. 9 that at least 2,012 people had been killed and another 2,059 injured, with most of the fatalities in mountain regions. Among the injured, 1,404 were in critical condition, the ministry said

G20 Summit Concludes, Exposing Increased Tensions Between US and China

President Joe Biden concluded his meetings on Sunday at the Group of 20 (G20) summit, which was held in India’s capital New Delhi, after paying tribute to the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi, alongside other world leaders. The president left India to travel to Vietnam, where he will announce a strengthened partnership with the communist nation on Sunday.

The president traveled to Asia at a time when competition between the United States and China was intensifying. This year’s summit revealed heightened tensions between two powerful countries, as evidenced by Chinese leader Xi Jinping’s absence from the summit and Beijing’s objections to the United States hosting the G20 Summit in 2026.

Some argue that Mr. Xi’s absence means that it is abandoning the G20 and establishing an alternative world order. To counter that notion, President Biden sought to fill the void left by Mr. Xi at this year’s summit by presenting America as a more reliable partner than China and capable of uniting the world’s richest countries around common goals, including providing “non-coercive” development financing options to developing countries.

“It would be nice to have him here,” President Biden told reporters in India when asked about whether Mr. Xi’s absence impacted the summit.

“But, no,” he added. “The summit is going well.”

Brazil advances digital currency with asset-freeze capability

Brazilian banks last week successfully completed pilot transfers using Drex, the country’s central bank digital currency (CBDC).

A central bank digital currency (CBDC) is a digital currency issued and governed by a central bank. Drex, a digital Brazilian real issued and controlled directly by the Central Bank of Brazil, is expected to be rolled out to the public next year.

Critics of CBDC have expressed concern that such currency, at the very least, would lack the anonymity of cash, a fact confirmed by Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell. But it could also open the door for authorities to control the funds of private citizens, a possibility already put forth by International Monetary Fund (IMF) Deputy Managing Director Bo Li in April.

Caixa Econômica Federal and Banco do Brasil announced last week that they had successfully completed the last of three test Drex transfers to each other throughout the month of August.

In July a developer discovered that Drex has been designed with a hidden feature that allows the central bank to freeze taxpayers’ funds and adjust balances.

Iora Labs Founder Pedro Magalhaes found the feature by reverse engineering the CBDC’s source code after examining API documents the central bank had posted to GitHub. Magalhaes told Decrypt that the Central Bank of Brazil was not very responsive to his inquiry about the feature.

“They tend to keep things closed off and usually don’t communicate with non-bankers,” he said. “Honestly, they don’t even need to care about public opinion.”

Court Finds Arizona’s Signature Matching Process Unlawful in ‘Massive Win’ for Election Integrity

A judge has found that Arizona’s signature matching process for mail-in ballots is unlawful, delivering what the plaintiffs in the lawsuit called a “massive win” for election integrity.

Yavapai County Superior Court Judge John Napper issued a ruling last week (pdf) in a lawsuit against Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes brought by public interest group Restoring Integrity and Trust in Elections (RITE), which alleged that Mr. Fontes broke the law regarding mail-in ballot signature verification procedures.

Specifically, the group argued that Mr. Fontes’ interpretation of “registration record” in the Secretary of State’s Elections Procedures Manual was unreasonably broad and improperly expanded the pool of signatures to which an early ballot affidavit signature could be compared, increasing the risk of false positives.

“While state law requires county recorders to match mail-ballot signatures with signatures in the voter’s ‘registration record,’ the Secretary instructed them to use a broader and less reliable universe of comparison signatures,” RITE said in a Sept. 5 statement on the court ruling.

Supreme Court Taking ‘Concrete Steps’ to Address Ethics Allegations: Justice Kavanaugh

The Supreme Court is working on “concrete steps” to address alleged ethics issues at the nation’s highest court following multiple reports alleging shortcomings, Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh has said.

Justice Kavanaugh made the comments at a judicial conference in Ohio on Sept. 7 where he appeared before judges and lawyers and was questioned by Judge Stephanie Dawkins Davis of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit about “perceived ethics issues” at the high court, The Washington Post reported.

“The chief justice spoke about that in May and said that we are continuing to work on those issues and that is accurate, we are continuing to work on those issues,” Justice Kavanaugh responded, referencing a speech by Chief Justice John Roberts in which he vowed to ensure the court adheres to the highest standards of conduct.

Sidney Powell Attorney Hints at Defense in Georgia RICO Case

The lawyer for Sidney Powell is trying to extricate her from the criminal case against former President Donald Trump in Georgia. Ms. Powell, a lawyer and former federal prosecutor who unsuccessfully challenged the 2020 election results, wasn’t really involved in the activities alleged in the indictment, her lawyer, Brian Rafferty, told the Fulton County court.

The sprawling indictment brought on Aug. 14 by Fulton County district Attorney Fani Willis alleges that the efforts of President Trump, Ms. Powell, and 17 others to challenge the election results amounted to a racketeering conspiracy.

The brunt of the charges focuses on their efforts to set up alternative slates of electors in several states, including Georgia, and then use them “for disrupting and delaying” the counting of electoral votes by Congress.

Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin Pardons Parent Arrested at Loudoun County School Board Meeting

Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) granted an absolute pardon to a father arrested at a school board meeting for coming to his daughter’s defense after she was reportedly raped in the school bathroom by a boy wearing a skirt.

During a Loudoun County School Board meeting in June 2021, Scott Smith was arrested and charged and later found guilty of obstruction of justice and disorderly conduct when he started to swear at a community member threatening to spread false and malicious information about his business, the Daily Wire reported. His daughter was just about to share on a megaphone about how, just weeks before, she was sexually assaulted in a school bathroom, which the school board had allegedly attempted to cover up.

Judge Denies Meadows’s Request to Transfer Georgia Racketeering Case to Federal Court

A federal judge rejected former Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows’s motion to hear state racketeering charges from Georgia in federal court.

The ruling is a victory for Fulton County, Georgia, District Attorney Fani Willis, a Democrat, who initiated the racketeering prosecution.

Judge Steve C. Jones of the Northern District of Georgia ruled at the end of the business day on Sept. 8 that the case should be sent back to Fulton County Superior Court in Atlanta because he lacked jurisdiction in the matter.

RFK Jr. as Third Party Candidate Will Make It Harder for Democrats to ‘Cheat’: Kari Lake

Former GOP gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake is expecting a potential third-party candidate like Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to make it harder for candidates to “cheat” in the upcoming 2024 presidential race.

Her comments came following RFK Jr.’s suggestion that he may consider “other alternatives” rather than simply pursuing a Democratic nomination.

“Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is talking about running as a third party candidate,” Ms. Lake said on “The Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show” on Sept. 9. “That’s going to make it really hard when there’s three people, three parties running in any election, whether it be the senate seat in Arizona, the presidency. It makes it a lot harder for these people to cheat because they don’t know what’s going to be on the inside of the ballot. It might be a Democrat voting, but that Democrat might be voting independent this time around to vote for RFK Jr.”

Police: Tennessee Teacher Arrested for Raping 12-Year-Old Boy

A fourth-grade teacher in Covington, Tennessee, has been arrested for allegedly raping a 12-year-old boy and befriending other young students online.

Alissa McCommon, 38, was arrested outside her home for allegedly sexually assaulting a student in 2021, WREG reported.

New Mexico Lawmakers Call For Governor’s Impeachment Over 2A Overreach

New Mexico State Representatives Stefani Lord (R-22) and John Block (R-51) called for the impeaching of Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) after she issued a public health emergency to strip the right away for law-abiding citizens to carry firearms in public in and around Albuquerque, the state’s largest city.

“This is an abhorrent attempt at imposing a radical, progressive agenda on an unwilling populous. Rather than addressing crime at its core, Governor Grisham is restricting the rights of law-abiding gun owners,” Lord wrote in a press release shared on X.

Appeals Court Upholds Injunction Blocking CDC, FBI, White House from Censorship

A federal appeals court on Friday upheld a modified version of an injunction in the landmark Missouri v. Biden case, blocking the White House and federal agencies from pressuring social media companies to censor American citizens.

However, two major arms of the federal government, the sprawling State Department and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) were exempted from the modified injunction, which was upheld by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

The Patriot Act: 20 Years of Government Spying on YOU

Twenty years ago today President George W. Bush signed the Patriot Act into law. The 52,000-word act sailed through Congress under the Orwellian title, “Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism (USA PATRIOT) Act of 2001.” It passed the House of Representatives within 24 hours and was subsequently rubber stamped by the Senate the very next day with only one lone dissenting vote.

President Bush said the “carefully drafted and considered” measure was “essential not only to pursuing and punishing terrorists but also preventing more atrocities in the hands of the evil ones.”

With the stroke of a presidential pen, the War on Terror began. The Patriot Act ushered in the wholesale evisceration of a myriad of protections allegedly guaranteed by the Fourth Amendment. Ostensibly written to “to deter and punish terrorist acts in the United States and across the globe,” the Patriot Act has instead become a tool of terror in its own right.

Geoengineering Watch Global Alert News, September 9, 2023, #422

The latest installment of Global Alert News is below. – “Apocalyptic food price rises”, a statement from the governor of the Bank of England. All over the world crops and fisheries are spiraling toward collapse, what happens when the food shelves in the local market are empty? Over a thousand fires are still raging in Canada, Greece has gone from total firestorm incineration to a year’s worth of rain in a day. Geoengineering is further fueling an ever more destructive cycle of droughts followed by firestorms followed by deluges. “Rainwater everywhere on earth is unsafe to drink due to PFAS forever chemicals”. Are the toxic heavy metal and polymer particles in our air connected to the recent official warnings about “fire brain” and “smoke brain”? Where did the “flesh eating” bacteria in our seas suddenly come from? How much longer can we survive on a completely contaminated planet? “We won’t be the first civilization to collapse, but we may well be the last”.

Nobel Winner Refutes Climate Change Narrative, Points Out Ignored Factor

Nobel Prize laureate John Clauser has recently been in the spotlight for challenging prevailing climate models, which he says have ignored a key variable.

Mr. Clauser, who recently became a recipient of the 2022 Nobel Prize in Physics for his contributions to quantum mechanics, holds degrees from Caltech and Columbia University. He served in roles at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and the University of California, Berkeley. In 2010, he was honored with a portion of the Wolf Prize in Physics.

Recently, Mr. Clauser joined another Nobel laureate and over 1,600 professionals in signing the World Climate Declaration (WCD) organized by Climate Intelligence (CLINTEL). This declaration asserts that there is no “climate emergency,” that climate change science is not conclusive, and that the earth’s history over thousands of years shows a consistently changing climate.

5 Simple Ways To Avoid Exposure To Cancer-Causing Chemicals In Your Home

While we push our policymakers to pass chemical regulations that will protect us, there are also simple steps we can take in the meantime to lower our exposure to cancer-causing chemicals.

Here are five meaningful changes you can make to reduce your exposure to cancer-causing chemicals in your home:

1.Upgrade to non-toxic cosmetics and personal care products

Chemicals found in cosmetics and personal care products that can raise our cancer risk include heavy metals2, formaldehyde3, phthalates4, parabens5, 1,4-dioxane6, and PFAS (per- and polyfluoralkyl substances, a.k.a. “forever chemicals”).

Some of these chemicals, like parabens, may show up on ingredient lists, but others aren’t always listed. For example, formaldehyde often isn’t listed, but it can be released when other chemicals commonly found in hair products combine and are heated during styling. When “fragrance” shows up on an ingredient list, that product possibly contains dozens of unlisted chemicals (including phthalates, which can be used to make fragrance linger on our skin and hair for longer periods of time).

Thankfully, there are a number of third-party organizations that verify products as nontoxic and free of harmful ingredients, including the Healthy Living App, MadeSafe, and Clearya

You don’t have to throw away all of your products and start over. This process is less daunting if you wait until you’re about to run out of something like shampoo, hand cream, or mascara, and use that as an opportunity to pick a new, nontoxic upgrade.

  1. Eat organic whenever possible

Many of the pesticides used in the U.S. raise our risk of certain cancers, and research has found that people who eat more organic produce have lower levels of pesticides in their bodies7

Eating fully organic can be pricey, so it can be helpful to prioritize fruits and veggies that are most likely to absorb pesticides, including strawberries, leafy greens, peaches, pears, nectarines, apples, grapes, bell and hot peppers, cherries, blueberries, and green beans.

Crops that are least likely to absorb pesticides include avocados, sweet corn, pineapple, onions, papaya, frozen sweet peas, asparagus, honeydew melon, kiwi, cabbage, mushrooms, mangoes, sweet potatoes, watermelon, and carrots.

>> Check out the EWG’s Dirty Dozen Guide to Food Chemicals: The top 12 to avoid

3.Stop heating food in plastic

A 2021 study8 by researchers in Switzerland identified more than 10,000 chemicals used in plastics manufacturing, and found that about a quarter of them are “substances of potential concern,” for endocrine disruption, reproductive harm, organ damage, cancer, or environmental toxicity.

More than half of the chemicals the researchers identified as potentially concerning are unregulated in the U.S., and 901 of those chemicals are approved for contact with food in the U.S. At least 1,000 of these concerning chemicals, including some carcinogens, are harmful even in very small doses. An additional 39% of the chemicals used in plastics manufacturing haven’t been studied enough to determine whether they’re hazardous, according to the study.

When plastic containers are heated, toxic chemicals can leach into food and make their way into our bodies. When products are labeled “microwave safe,” that means they won’t melt or fall apart in the microwave—it does not necessarily mean they won’t leach toxic chemicals into food when heated. The same goes for things like plastic crockpot liners.

When heating food, I recommend sticking to glass, metal, or ceramic for this reason.

  1. Invest in a good water filter

Contaminants in tap water that can raise our cancer risk include PFAS, arsenic, disinfection byproducts, and hexavalent chromium. Many of these chemicals are unregulated in the U.S., and the Environmental Working Group estimates that more than 100,000 cancer cases in the U.S. are caused by carcinogens in tap water.

>> Power Mall Products of Interest: James McCanney whole house water filters or DuraFlo waters (fit Berkey water units)

5.Start filtering indoor air

Americans on average spend 90% of our time indoors, and carcinogens from our cleaning products, gas stoves, and outdoor air pollution can build up and linger in the air in our homes.

We can easily reduce carcinogens in the air in our homes by periodically running an indoor air filter. HEPA filters are best. HEPA systems can be expensive, but there’s an inexpensive DIY version that involves affixing HEPA filters to a box fan.

The takeaway

Exposures to small amounts of toxins at home can add up over time. However, you don’t need to panic. Simple steps like swapping your shampoo the next time you run out or starting to use an air or water filter can go a long way in keeping your home a safe haven.

Eating This Way Could Lower Risk Of Gastric Cancer By Almost 30%, Study Find

As Hippocrates once said, “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” Indeed, certain foods can help keep your health where you want it—but which foods, exactly? According to new research published in the journal Frontiers in Nutrition1, the answer can be found in the Mediterranean. Here’s what to know.

Studying the impact of the Mediterranean diet on gastric cancer risk

As a refresher, the Mediterranean diet is broadly based on the diet of the countries lining the Mediterranean Sea, and focuses on antioxidant-rich fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, legumes, seafood, nuts, seeds, olive oil, and plenty of herbs and spices.

For this study, researchers wanted to assess the impact of the Mediterranean diet on gastric cancer risk. Namely, they conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of existing Mediterranean diet research.

They gathered 11 different studies which included a cumulative of over 1,300,000 people, looking for any significant patterns between the diet and instances of gastric cancer.

And based on their findings, it would appear the Mediterranean diet is a good diet to adopt if you want to stave off gastric cancer, because those participants with the highest adherence to the Mediterranean diet had a 29% lower risk of gastric cancer on average.

First case of recurrent multiple evanescent white dot syndrome (MEWDS) shown in woman following both COVID-19 vaccination and subsequent infection

A recent study from New Zealand found a woman diagnosed with multiple evanescent white dot syndrome (MEWDS) twice due to COVID-19 vaccination and subsequent infection.1

MEWDS, first described in 1984, is an idiopathic inflammatory disease of the outer retina that is thought to be a transient, viral-induced autoimmune reaction.2 The pathogenesis is not yet fully understood, but it is associated with flu-like symptoms and has been reported following a number of different vaccinations – Hepatitis A, B, human papillomavirus (HPV), influenza, measles-mumps-rubella, varicella virus, rabies, yellow fever and COVID-19.3

Boosted People More Likely Than Unvaccinated to Be Infected: Study

People who received a new COVID-19 vaccine booster were more likely to contract COVID-19 than people who received no COVID-19 vaccine doses, according to a new study of prisons in California.

Researchers analyzed data from 33 state prisons from January to July 2023 to try to assess the effectiveness of the bivalent shots, which were introduced in the fall of 2022.

Among 96,201 inmates with data on COVID-19 testing and vaccination, researchers identified 2,835 cases.

They found that 1,187 of the cases were among people who had received a bivalent vaccine, versus just 568 cases among the unvaccinated.

The rest were among people who received only monovalent, or old vaccines. That group was excluded from further analysis.

New COVID Wave Will Test How Well America Learned About Pandemic Propaganda: Dr. Robert Malone

With new variants of the COVID-19 virus on the rise and government officials pushing the return of public health mandates, Americans will be tested on whether they have learned anything about propaganda over the past three years, according to Dr. Robert Malone.

“We’ve heard all of this about how lethal this coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, is, and how we’re at such great risk for hospitalization or death associated with it. Most of that has turned out to be false,” the virologist said during a recent interview for EpochTV’s “American Thought Leaders: NOW.”

Promise or Peril: COVID-19 mRNA Vaccine Issues Series (Part 4)

In this series, “Promise or Peril: Alarming COVID-19 mRNA Vaccine Issues,” we explore how the introduction of mRNA technology lacked an adequate regulatory framework, setting the stage for serious adverse events and other concerns related to inadequate safety testing of lipid nanoparticles, spike protein, and residual DNA- and lipid-related impurities, as well as truncated/modified mRNA species.

Previously: In Part 1, we introduced how the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) relaxed the rules for mRNA vaccines compared to mRNA therapies and discussed the available data regarding LNP distribution throughout the body based on animal testing, the fact that human testing was not done, and the lack of mRNA or spike protein biodistribution data. In Parts 2 and 3, we explored how the LNPs are constructed and how they behave in the body and affect health.

COVID-19 Stay-at-Home Policies Resulted in Excess Deaths: Study

Public health officials’ efforts to protect citizens from COVID-19 infection and avert death may have backfired, a new study published in Health Economics suggests. What’s more, the efforts could be linked to excess deaths.

Mandatory masking and social distancing became everyday directives for millions worldwide when the COVID-19 virus exploded onto the scene in 2020. Shelter-in-place (SIP) or stay-at-home orders quickly followed despite evidence supporting the protocol remaining mixed.

Now, a cross-collaborative team of scientists from California, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts is expressing confidence based on results from rigorous research examining whether stay-at-home orders may not have been as effective as health officials initially hoped. In fact, they may have resulted in both short- and long-term health consequences.

Florida Surgeon General goes on anti-vaccine rant against new COVID-19 booster

Florida’s Surgeon General went on a rant during a press conference slamming vaccines like the ones for COVID-19, painting them as dangerous despite their support from most doctors.

Longtime masking opponent Joseph Ladapo stood alongside Gov. Ron DeSantis to rip the latest shot, which is expected to be available this month.

“There’s essentially no evidence for it,” Ladapo said at a “Mandate Freedom” press conference in Jacksonville.

“These new RNA COVID-19 vaccines include the fact that they actually cause cardiac injury in many people … call it subclinical myocarditis, its clinical significance is really unknown,” he said, referring to a condition that medical experts say is a “very rare” side effect of Moderna and Pfizer vaccines.

CDC Says Existing COVID Antibodies Work Against New Variant

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Sept. 8 said research shows that antibodies produced by a prior COVID-19 infection or existing vaccines were good enough to protect against a new variant that has been found in the United States.

The CDC suggested in its update that the data are “encouraging” for the latest COVID-19 vaccine booster shot, which is currently being reviewed by federal health agencies. The Food and Drug Administration is scheduled to authorize updated vaccines that target subvariants of Omicron.

“Early research data from multiple labs are reassuring and show that existing antibodies work against the new BA.2.86 variant,” the CDC stated in an update on Sept. 8. “These data are also encouraging because of what it may mean for the effectiveness of the 2023–2024 COVID-19 vaccine, which is currently under review. That’s because the vaccine is tailored to the currently circulating variants.”

Poll: California Voters Deliver Resounding ‘No’ to Cash Reparations for Slavery

The concept of the state delivering cash payments as reparations to the descendants of enslaved African Americans is opposed by California voters by a 2-to-1 margin, a poll released Sunday reveals.

This insight into public reaction to offers of cash settlements shows difficulties await state lawmakers when they begin to consider the idea already flagged for action next year.

The UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies poll, co-sponsored by the Los Angeles Times, found some 59 percent of voters oppose cash payments compared with 28 percent who support the idea. The lack of support for cash reparations was resounding, with more than four in ten voters “strongly” opposed.

“It has a steep uphill climb, at least from the public’s point of view,” said Mark DiCamillo, director of the IGS poll.
