  1. White House Demands Media Outlets Target Republicans With More ‘Scrutiny’ Over Biden Impeachment Probe

The White House has asked media outlets to subject House Republicans to greater scrutiny after they launched an impeachment inquiry against President Joe Biden, focusing on allegations of corruption.

In a memo to media outlets obtained by The Epoch Times, White House spokesperson Ian Sams said that “it’s time for the media to ramp up its scrutiny of House Republicans for opening an impeachment inquiry based on lies.”

Mr. Sams said in the memo that Congressional Republicans have for years tried to “muddy the waters” by making supposedly spurious allegations against President Biden and attracting media coverage that only serves to “generate confusion, put false premises in people’s feeds, and obscure the truth.”

4.Judge Denies Fulton County DA Request to Try All 19 Defendants Together in Trump Election Case

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee officially severed the cases of defendants Kenneth Chesebro and Sidney Powell from former President Donald Trump and 16 co-defendants on Thursday in a new order.

“Severing the remaining 17 co-defendants is simply a procedural and logistical inevitability,” Judge McAfee wrote, while reiterating the order that Mr. Chesebro’s and Ms. Powell’s cases will not be severed from each other and denying any request to pause state proceedings while removals to federal court are ongoing.

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, who is prosecuting the case, has repeatedly asked to try all 19 defendants together, previously arguing that was the correct procedure since the judge did not officially sever their cases.

5.Breitbart Business Digest: The UAW Is Fighting Bidenomics and Bidenflation

The looming strike by the United Auto Workers is as much a protest against Bidenomics as it is the policies of General Motors, Ford Motor Company, and Stellantis.

More than a decade ago, as U.S. automakers were teetering on the verge of collapse and two in the grip of bankruptcy amid the Great Recession, the unions and the autoworkers they represent made many concessions to keep the Big Three afloat. A big one was the agreement to accept contracts that no longer tied worker pay to inflation.

The pressure put on the unions at the time was tremendous. The Obama administration relentlessly pushed for acceptance of its program, largely because it wanted to claim credit for rescuing the auto industry. The workers were threatened with economic ruin if they did not sacrifice to prop up their failing employers. Politically, the unions were left adrift, abandoned by the Democrats who had long been their allies and finding little welcome among a Republican party still dominated by establishment types enthralled to the agenda of big business and Wall Street.

At the time, the concession on automatic inflation adjustments for wages did not seem too costly. The Federal Reserve had a hard won credibility on its promise to keep inflation low. Since the early 1990s, annual inflation mostly bounced around near three percent. Over time, prices were still climbing, but there were no sudden jolts that threatened to bury negotiated wage increases below unmanageable cost of living increases

Dutch Farmer Party Calls for Hard Asylum Seeker Cap and Opt-Out of EU Green Agenda in Election Manifesto

The Dutch pro-farmer populist party has set out a vision of self-determination for the people of the Netherlands, arguing in its election manifesto that the country should have the right to “opt-out” of European Union agreements on the climate and mass migration.

Firmly planting its flag on the populist right of Dutch politics, the Farmer-Citizen Movement (BoerBurgerBeweging, BBB) has called for a radical overhaul of the current asylum system, which it has argued has left villages throughout the Netherlands being “terrorised” by so-called refugees.

The BBB party also noted the strains put on the housing market, saying: “Newcomers to our country should no longer be given priority for housing. It is inexplicable that a 30-year-old Dutch person cannot get a house, but someone who just comes here immediately gets a house.”

Vladimir Putin Accepts Invite to North Korea During Kim Jong-un’s Russia Tour

The governments of Russia and North Korea confirmed on Thursday that communist dictator Kim Jong-un invited Vladimir Putin to visit Pyongyang — and the strongman “accepted the invitation with pleasure.”

Kim is currently in far-east Russia, traveling by train for an entire day to reach his destination for an ongoing visit to the country. North Korea and Russia are longtime traditional allies. Kim has recently elevated the importance of the bilateral relationship in the post-pandemic era. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu became the first high-level foreign official to visit Pyongyang in July since the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic began in China in 2020. The current visit to Russia is Kim’s first trip outside his country in the same period of time and his first engagement, in person, with another head of state since his meeting with former American President Donald Trump on the mutual Korean border in June 2019.

Give Ukraine More Missiles, Urges Boris Johnson, as Ukraine Hammers Russian Black Sea Fleet at Anchor With Strikes

The United Kingdom should keep handing over its stocks of advanced cruise missiles, former Prime Minister and key Zelensky ally Boris Johnson has said, as Ukraine continues to strike Russia’s navy.

The West needs “strategic patience” and a “far greater sense of urgency about our programme of military assistance” towards Ukraine, former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has written for a British news magazine, as he urged more missiles for Ukraine, and as soon as possible. The shopping list of missiles he has in mind is broad, from UK Storm Shadow cruise missiles, ‘ATACM’ tactical missiles, man-portable air defence missiles, and more Patriot air defence missile batteries.

Hunter Biden was charged with one count of false statement in the purchase of a firearm, one count of possession of a firearm by a person who is an unlawful user of or addicted to a controlled substance, and one count of false statement related to information required to be kept by federal firearms licensed dealer.

Supreme Court Halts Order Blocking Biden Admin’s Contact With Social Media Firms

Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito on Sept. 14 temporarily placed on hold a lower court ruling that restricted federal agencies from contacting social media firms with requests to remove content while the justices consider how to handle the case.

His order froze a recent appeals court decision that found that federal officials likely violated First Amendment protections by coercing some platforms into deleting certain posts and content. A lawsuit was filed by Missouri and Louisiana last year against the Biden administration, accusing federal officials of trying to censor people with certain viewpoints.

A district judge in July blocked a multitude of federal agencies from communicating with social media firms, while the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Sept. 8 partially upheld the ruling. The appeals court allowed certain agencies to still contact those companies and argued that the lower court’s order was too broad.

IRS Warns of Sept. 15 Deadline to Avoid Tax-Time ‘Surprise’

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has issued a reminder that some taxpayers face a looming deadline to pay estimated tax payments in order to “stay current and avoid a surprise at tax time” in the form of potential penalties for underpayment.

Certain categories of taxpayers that do not have taxes withheld from their income through an employer or other withholding agent face a Sept. 15 deadline to submit their third quarter estimated tax payments.

Estimated tax payments are typically made by individuals and entities that do not have taxes withheld from their income, including gig workers, sole proprietors, retirees, partners, and S corporation shareholders. Retirees and individuals with irregular income (such as those with seasonal) income could also be required to make estimated tax payments if their income is not subject to withholding.

Milley: Waiting to Evacuate American Citizens, Afghan Allies Was a Huge Mistake

During a portion of an interview with ABC News Chief Global Affairs Correspondent Martha Raddatz set to air on Sunday’s edition of “This Week,” Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley stated that he agrees with former CENTCOM Commander Gen. Frank McKenzie (Ret.) that it was a massive mistake to not evacuate American citizens and at-risk Afghans sooner.

Raddatz asked, “Gen. McKenzie said it was a serious mistake not to begin to evacuate our embassy personnel, our American citizens, and at-risk Afghans earlier. Do you agree with that?”

Milley answered, “Yeah, I agree with that, sure.”

Raddatz then asked, “So, that was a mistake in the withdrawal?”

Milley responded, “I think as you look back on it, I think that some decisions with respect to moving the embassy and Department of State could have been made a little earlier, sure.”

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson Wants to Open City-Owned Grocery Stores

hicago Mayor Brandon Johnson (D) is looking into opening taxpayer-funded, city-owned grocery stores in areas in which businesses have pulled out due to rampant crime.

Johnson announced a partnership with the Economic Security Project to look into the possibility of opening city-owned grocery stores. The first step in the partnership will be to perform a feasibility study, but the city did not provide a timeline, the Chicago Tribune reported

Johnson claimed his administration is “committed to advancing innovative, whole-of-government approaches to address these inequities.”

The mayor said in a statement:

All Chicagoans deserve to live near convenient, affordable, healthy grocery options. We know access to grocery stores is already a challenge for many residents, especially on the South and West sides. A better, stronger, safer future is one where our youth and our communities have access to the tools and resources they need to thrive. My administration is committed to advancing innovative, whole-of-government approaches to address these inequities.

On Thursday, the Fulton County District Attorney’s office handed over the names of 30 unindicted co-conspirators listed in the 98-page racketeering indictment that charges 19 defendants for their challenge of the 2020 election results.

Two of the 19 defendants charged go to trial next month and will receive more documents and information from the prosecution in discovery.

The remaining 17 defendants will later receive the list as well, according to the judge.

IN-DEPTH: What’s Next in the Biden Impeachment Inquiry

Republican leaders in the House of Representatives have announced some of the next steps in the impeachment investigation into the activities of President Joe Biden.

Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) announced on Sept. 13 that his committee would hold a hearing on the matter next month. Mr. Comer has been tasked with leading the overall investigation in cooperation with Reps. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Jason Smith (R-Mo.), who chair the Judiciary Committee and Ways and Means Committee, respectively.

Mr. Comer said investigators will look for additional emails from President Biden during the time he served as vice president, from 2009 to 2017, and witness testimony from those claiming that the Biden family profited millions of dollars through influence peddling to foreign nationals.

McDonald’s Scrapping Self-Serving Drink Machines For All US Customers

McDonald’s will be eliminating self-serving drink machines from all of its restaurants in the United States within the next 10 years, the company has confirmed.

The decision means customers will now have to get their refills from employees at the counter as opposed to filling up their drinks by themselves.

“McDonald’s will be transitioning away from self-serve beverage stations in dining rooms across the U.S. by 2032,” the company confirmed in a statement to multiple media publications.

“This change is intended to create a consistent experience for both customers and crew across all ordering points, whether that’s McDelivery, the app, kiosk, drive-thru or in-restaurant,” the spokesperson added.

It is also not immediately clear exactly how the change will impact drink refills, as every McDonald’s franchise location has its own refill policies.

The McDonald’s USA spokesperson also did not state if the decision will also impact McDonald’s restaurants in international locations.

UN Cybercrime Treaty Talks End Without Consensus on Scope And Deep Divides About Surveillance Powers

As the latest negotiating session on the proposed UN Cybercrime Treaty wrapped up in New York earlier this month, one thing was clear: with time running out to finalize the text, little progress and consensus was reached on crucial points, such as the treaty’s overall scope of application and the reach of its criminal procedure mandates and international cooperation measures.

Instead, a plethora of proposed word changes was added, further complicated by additional amendments published in informal reports well after the two-week session ended September 2. We saw many of the same highly dangerous criminal offenses and surveillance measures that had not made it into the zero draft reintroduced back into the text. The original zero draft, as well as the last set of amendments discussed in behind-closed doors negotiations, turned into a sea of redlines.

It became apparent that many nations, including Russia, Eritrea, Burundi, Sierra Leone, Zimbabwe, Ghana, Korea, and others, were vying to expand the proposed treaty’s surveillance scope to cover practically any offense imaginable where a computer was involved, both at home and abroad.

House passes bill targeting California’s EV mandate

The U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday passed a bill targeting California’s efforts to phase out gas-powered cars.

The legislation, which passed the House 222-190, would bar states from limiting the sales of gas-powered cars and rescind any federal approvals for states to do so that were issued since the start of 2022.

While the vote was largely along party lines, eight Democrats voted with Republicans in favor of the bill. They are Reps. Yadira Caraveo (N.M.), Jim Costa (Calif.), Henry Cuellar (Texas), Donald Davis (N.C.), Jared Golden (Maine), Brian Higgins (N.Y.), Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (Wash.) and Gabe Vasquez (N.M.)

The bill does not explicitly mention California.

However, under the Clean Air Act, the state can pursue clean car rules that are stricter than those from the federal government if they get permission from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Last year, the EPA reinstated a waiver allowing a California rule aimed at limiting vehicular pollution to take effect. Since then, the state has also eyed a complete phaseout of new sales of gas-powered cars to increase electric vehicle usage.

Other states often adopt California’s rules, giving them additional power beyond the state’s borders.

Despite its House passage, the Republican-led legislation is not expected to advance or become law. It would face opposition in the Democratic-led Senate, and the White House recently released a statement outlining its opposition.

GOP lawmakers fear reliance on China in shift toward electric school buses

The Biden administration’s attempt to shift to electric school buses runs the risk of making the U.S. more reliant on China, according to what some GOP lawmakers said during a hearing Wednesday.

“The administration’s forced electric transition will also make us more reliant on China, which dominates the EV [electric vehicle] battery market and the supply chains for critical materials necessary to build electric vehicles,” House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.) said.

Can Pumpkins Actually Grow Vertically?

Pumpkins are among the most beloved fall vegetables, good for both for eating and decoration, and lots of folks like to take up the challenge of growing pumpkins themselves at home.

But for a gardener, pumpkins can be a huge commitment, quite literally! Most pumpkin varieties tend to be really large and they take up lots of room on the ground.

This means that you might have to commit to them instead of your other plants. But is it possible that pumpkins might be grown vertically like some other squashes? Can pumpkins grow vertically?

Yes, you can grow pumpkins vertically so long as they’re a smaller variety and supported with a sling on a sturdy structure.

You might be as surprised as I was to learn that particular bit of trivia. So long as you’re working with a variety of pumpkin that isn’t too big, it is actually possible to grow them vertically, although you’ll never be able to pull that off with the most massive varieties.

With a little bit of preparation and the right setup, your vertically-grown pumpkins can be just as nice as the ones that grow traditionally on the ground.

Keep reading and I’ll tell you everything you need to know about growing pumpkins vertically

HEALTH

Quercetin for Heart Health: MD Says It’s Key To Lowering Blood Pressure + Cholesterol — and It Costs Just Pennies a Day!

Wouldn’t it be amazing if there were a simple way to to strengthen your heart without overhauling your diet or breaking a sweat at the gym? There is! Doctors say quercetin, an antioxidant compound found in certain fruits and vegetables, is key to improving your heart health. The reason: It lowers your cholesterol and blood pressure naturally to ease strain on your ticker, plus it curbs stroke risk. And the the health-boosting benefits don’t end there. Research proves quercetin also tames allergy symptoms, soothes pain, boosts immunity and more. (Is there anything it can’t do?) Read on to learn how to reap the rewards of this multitasking antioxidant.

ONE TO TRY: GLOBAL HEALING CENTER QUERCETIN (60 CT)

How quercetin improves heart health

When it comes to improving heart health, quercetin works in multiple ways. Here’s where the compound really shines.

  1. Quercetin reduces uric acid levels

You may have heard of uric acid being the culprit behind gout pain. But it turns out elevated levels of this compound can also raise the risk of stroke as well as unexplained weight gain.

Quercetin works by attacking an enzyme key to uric acid production, which helps keep your levels in check so that they don’t harm your heart.

  1. Quercetin lowers LDL cholesterol

Cholesterol-lowering statins are the most prescribed drug in the US, according to GoodRx.com. But research in JAMA Internal Medicine shows they’re less effective than once thought, cutting heart attack and stroke risk by less than 1%. While the drugs can still be helpful, you can also rein in levels of “bad” LDL cholesterol naturally with the help of quercetin.

Quercetin works by blocking the liver’s production of cholesterol and reducing how much cholesterol is absorbed in the intestines, explains Trista Best, RD. In fact, research in the British Journal of Nutrition found that taking quercetin daily noticeably lowered LDL levels within six weeks.

  1. Quercetin lowers high blood pressure

Folks who have a reading of 120/80 mmHg or less are considered to have healthy blood pressure. But when those numbers creep upward, it cause trouble. Elevated BP readings of up to 129/80 mmHg are considered prehypertension, whereas readings above 130/80 mmHg are deemed hypertension. That’s a problem when it comes to your ticker, since high blood pressure makes your heart work harder. Plus it can damage the lining of arteries, making it easier for fatty plaques to build up and clog blood flow. Quercetin to the rescue!

Research in the British Journal of Pharmacology suggests that increasing your daily quercetin intake can lower your blood pressure in a big way.

More health benefits of quercetin

Aside from improving your heart health, quercetin plays a role in everything form easing allergies to reducing pain.

  1. Quercetin reduces allergy symptoms

New York City allergist Jennifer Collins, MD, estimates more than 1 in 4 women with allergies don’t know they have them, as symptoms often don’t appear until later in life. “Allergies are becoming increasingly common for reasons we don’t fully understand,” she says. “In fact, many of my female patients think their allergy symptoms, like fatigue and fog, are just part of daily stress.”

Instead of reaching for antihistamines, which can trigger weight gain and increased appetite in some women, reach for nature’s allergy cure: quercetin. “It works by calming the mast cells that trigger allergic reactions,” says David C. Leopold, MD, network medical director of Integrative Health and Medicine at Hackensack Meridian Health.

  1. Quercetin tames joint aches and pains

Whether it’s stiff knees or an achy back, anti-inflammatory quercetin can help. The compound shuts down the pain-trigger enzyme known as COX-2 and encourages the growth of healthy new joint cartilage. And simply working more quercetin-rich foods into your diet is enough to tame pain now plus cut your risk of future aches in half, according to research in the journal Krager.

And quercetin is especially helpful when it comes to back pain. “Dwindling estrogen levels as women age lead to the degeneration of spinal discs, which can irritate nerve roots, causing pain,” says spinal surgeon Ken Hansraj, MD,

Consider pairing quercetin with bromelain if you suffer from joint pain

While quercetin plays a big role in tamping down pain, a pineapple enzyme known as bromelain can boost the benefit even more. In a study in Phytomedicine, scientists found taking 400 mg. of bromelain twice daily reduced joint pain by 59% in four weeks. Bromelain breaks down protein-coated molecules responsible for pain, explains Michelle Schoffro Cook, PhD. Eating fresh pineapple can help, but a pill offers a more concentrated bromelain dose. For relief that sets in within 20 minutes, she advises taking 2,000 mg. bromelain daily. Tip: Bromelain acts a digestive enzyme when taken with food. To coax it into working as an all-body healer, take your supplements on an empty stomach.

ONE TO TRY: GROWN BY NATURE BROMELAIN OR OPTIVIDA DIGESTIVE ENZYMES

  1. Quercetin boosts immunity

Sail through sick season free of colds, viruses and even COVID? Yes! Quercetin is one of the best natural ways to shore up your immune system, plus speed recovery if you do fall ill. It neutralizes harmful free radicals, tamps down inflammation and nourish the beneficial bacteria in your gut that ward of bacterial and viral invaders. Fred Pescatore, MD, advises taking 500 mg. quercetin daily as a preventative measure.

If you do develop symptoms that could signal COVID, Dr. Pescatore recommends adding another 500 mg. qercetin daily. In a study in the International Journal of General Medicine, COVID patients who took 1,500 mg. of quercetin daily recovered up to 7 days faster than those who didn’t supplement.

  1. Quercetin strengthens bones

Calcium may get all the credit for keeping your skeleton strong, but research proves quercetin is a powerful bone-booster, too. Scientists reporting reporting in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that folks who ate 10 mg. of quercetin daily, the amount found in one apple, cut their risk of frailty by 20%. And doubling the dose lowered their risk by 35%. Frailty is characterized by weaker bones that reduce mobility and increase fracture risk. But quercetin is known to strengthen bones and ward off osteoporosis, which is key for staying strong and mobile as we age.

California Costco Worker Returns Envelope Containing Nearly $4,000 in Cash

A Costco employee as honest as the day is long is being celebrated after returning an envelope of $4,000 cash to a shopper.

John Sotelo had set himself a goal of working hard enough through August to make Employee of the Month, and thanks to his selfless act, he now has a plaque hanging on the wall of the store.

At the Costco on Shaw and Clovis Avenue in Clovis, California, Sotelo was putting away cases of bottled water when something on one of the pallets caught his eye. It was an envelope it seemed.

It contained $3,940, and Sotelo immediately notified his managers. Together, they tracked down the member who misplaced it using surveillance footage and her member ID.

“It was crazy because my manager walked me outside, and the member was right there,” Sotelo told KFSN ABC News 30. “So yeah, she told me like, ‘Oh, you know, I’m so glad you found this. That’s for my kids to go to school.’ I’m like, ‘Okay,’ you know, ‘well I’m happy to help.’”

Kind thrift store worker finds $5,000 in a donation bag, tracks down the owner to return it

Thrift stores are an excellent place for shoppers to get a deal and, occasionally, find something extremely rare that’s worth a lot of money. CBS News reports that the owner of Pick of the Litter thrift store in Burlingame, California, just outside of San Francisco, came across an extraordinary discovery in a bag of donated clothes and did the right thing by giving it back.

Pick of the Litter is a thrift store that sells various second-hand items, including clothes, household items, art, jewelry and watches, books, records and musical instruments.

Oliver Jolis, Pick of the Litter’s owner, was organizing a bag of donated clothes when something unexpected happened. “Money just started falling out,” Jolis told CBS News. “It kept falling and falling. I was like, ‘This is a decent amount of money here.’”

When Jolis counted up the cash, it came to $5,000. The donor must have put the money in with the clothes for safekeeping and then forgotten.

But instead of pocketing the cash or splitting it with his coworkers, Jolis and the other folks at the thrift store got to work trying to find the person who mistakenly donated the money.

Luckily, they left a clue to their identity in the bag of donated clothes.

Jolis found an old scrap of paper in the bag with car insurance information. The information was enough to track down the person who donated the bag of clothing. They realized it was a woman who regularly donates to the store. The woman told CBS News that she prefers to remain anonymous.

The thrift store staff reached out to her and asked a series of questions to be sure she was the person who dropped off the bag. She passed the test with flying colors.

“I said come on down I’ve got something for you. She came back, and I gave her $5,000 in a paper bag and said, ‘Thank you for supporting us,'” Jolis said. “He could have just put the money in his pocket. Nobody would have known. But he didn’t,” said the woman who donated the clothes.
