The Power Hour

Knowledge is Power

Today’s News: June 27, 2023

Today’s Top 5:

1.Congress is losing its testosterone! Rep. Jordan Demands Answers on Hunter Biden Prosecutor’s Refusal to Provide Documents

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) wants to know why U.S Attorney David Weiss, the prosecutor who struck a plea deal with Hunter Biden, is denying requests on Attorney General Merrick Garland’s behalf.

In a May 25 letter (pdf) to Garland, Jordan had requested documents and communications related to the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) alleged retaliation against IRS whistleblowers investigating Biden.

In reply, Jordan received a letter from Weiss declining to accommodate his requests—a fact the congressman described as “unusual” in his June 22 response.

2.New Email Contradicts Garland on Hunter Biden Probe as Impeachment Talk Heats Up

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) has raised the idea of possibly opening an impeachment inquiry into U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland as a new email contradicts Garland’s testimony regarding the Hunter Biden investigation.

U.S. Attorney David Weiss recently brought several tax charges against Hunter Biden, President Joe Biden’s son, resulting in the younger Biden admitting guilt.

However, IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley has alleged in testimony to Congress that Weiss told top officials during a meeting in 2022 that he wasn’t the person deciding whether charges would be filed and that requests for charges to be brought in Washington and California had been rejected.

3.NEW: Judge Denies DOJ’s Motion for Special Conditions of Release and to Seal Witness List in Trump Classified Docs Case

When last we left the proceedings in U.S. v. Trump, the federal case regarding former President Donald Trump’s purported improper retention of classified documents, Special Counsel Jack Smith had moved for a continuance of the trial date from August 14, 2023, to December 11, 2023, and further disclosed the existence of 84 witnesses, the list of which the government sought leave to file under seal.

4.Get Your One Health Token From the World Health Organization

The World Health Organization and their “One Health” approach are coming for the world’s food systems, aiming to meld them with the health insurance and medical fields. The outcome will be food tokens, medically tailored meals and prescription food programs that both dictate what you eat and have the power to impose penalties if you stray too far off course.

“How do you get people to break? Control their food and money,” investigative journalist Corey Lynn explains. “What is the weapon? Controlling your identity through digital means. The smart phone, QR codes, digital identities, biometrics, AI, and chips are all weapons being used against humanity.”1 You can listen to Corey discuss this on Spotify by going to her channel Dig It! Episode #189

5.CNN Obtains Audio Of Trump Discussing Classified Documents And ‘Secret Information’

CNN obtained audio which allegedly depicts former President Donald Trump talking about classified documents.

On Monday’s edition of Anderson Cooper 360, the host claimed that the audio, which has never been heard publicly, exposes Trump sharing US military war plans against Iran with people not cleared to have access to that information. He alleged the recordings were from July 2021 at Trump’s Bedminster, New Jersey, club.

Cooper said that Trump shared documents with a writer working on Mark Meadows’ memoir, a publisher, and two Trump staff members. He claims the audio recordings play a “central piece” in federal prosecutor Jack Smith’s case against the former president

Putin Speaks Publicly for 1st Time Since Wagner Mutiny Ended

Russian President Vladimir Putin pledged in a televised address that the leaders of the Wagner rebellion would be brought to justice, in Putin’s first public comments since the mutiny by the mercenary group ended in an uncertain truce on June 24.

Putin’s remarks on June 26 were his first since a fiery speech several days ago while the apparent rebellion was still playing out and in which the Russian leader called the Wagner chief’s actions a “stab in the back” and pledged to crush what he described as a “rebellion.”

Yevgeny Prigozhin, the Wagner leader, on June 24 ordered his fast-advancing troops to stand down and return to base as part of a reported deal in which criminal charges against him would be dropped as he agreed to go into exile in neighboring Belarus.

But in his speech on June 26, Putin appeared to take aim at the Wagner chief while denouncing the leaders of the rebellion and their “criminal activity that aims at weakening the country” while vowing to bring “organizers of this rebellion to justice.”

Putin’s remarks appear to run counter to earlier reports that criminal charges against Prigozhin would be dropped.

A planned transfer has been announced by the military in the wake of last week’s insurrection

The Russian Defense Ministry has announced preparations for the handover of heavy weapons from the Wagner private military company to units of the national Armed Forces.

A brief statement posted by the ministry on social media on Tuesday offered no further details on the arms transfer. The

Wagner Group currently has many of the same weapons as regular troops, including tanks, anti-aircraft systems and attack aircraft. Some of them were used by the contractors during their short-lived mutiny last weekend.

The security agency cited ‘relevant circumstances’ and the mercenaries’ decision to end their mutiny as reasons for its decision

The criminal investigation into the mutiny by the Wagner private military company has been dropped, Russia’s

Federal Security Service (FSB) has announced. Russian President Vladimir Putin previously promised immunity to participants of the insurrection, which was led by Wagner chief Evgeny Prigozhin.

‘Null’ Votes Win Guatemala Presidential Election, Prompting Runoff Between Two Leftists

Guatemala held the first round of its presidential election on Sunday, resulting in more “null” votes than the total for any single candidate.

The Central American nation is now slated to hold a runoff presidential election on August 20 between the top two candidates after “null”: Former First Lady Sandra Torres and outsider Bernardo Arevalo, both leftists. The winner will succeed incumbent hardline conservative President Alejandro Giammattei after his term ends next year.

Supreme Court Throws Out Louisiana’s Appeal, Making Way for New Congressional Map

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled on June 26 that another congressional map may have to be redrawn amid claims that it inappropriately dilutes the influence of black voters in the state.

“The writ of certiorari before judgment is dismissed as improvidently granted. The stay heretofore entered by the Court on June 28, 2022, is vacated,” the court wrote (pdf), before it said that the case needs to be resolved before congressional elections in Louisiana in November 2024. “This will allow the matter to proceed before the Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit for review in the ordinary course and in advance of the 2024 congressional elections in Louisiana.”

It isn’t clear if there were any dissents. The order was unsigned.

Low test scores persist in reading and math nationwide, new data shows

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a long-term impact on grade-school education, as new data released Wednesday shows 13-year-olds nationwide tested significantly lower in reading and math, with math scores facing the single largest drop in 50 years.

“Most of these students were 10-years-old when the pandemic hit, and schools were disrupted,” Peggy Carr, commissioner of the National Center for Education Statistics, said in a call with reporters. “The bottom line is these results show that there are gaps in basic skills.”

Carr explained that these assessments focused on basic reading and math skills, such as locating information in a passage of text or calculating the area of a square. Most questions were multiple choice or required short answers, she said.

Pentagon’s ‘Woke’ Agenda Dividing, Weakening the Military: Former Space Force Officer

Military service members have been increasingly exposed to a “hyper-politicized and sexualized work environment,” according to a former lieutenant colonel, who said the resulting divisiveness is weakening the U.S. armed forces.

The Pentagon’s diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies have drawn increased and intense scrutiny in recent years, especially from conservatives, who dub these moves part of the “woke” agenda.

Lt. Gen. DeAnna Burt, deputy chief of space operations for the U.S. Space Force, said that “anti-LGBTQ+ laws” introduced by state legislatures are affecting hiring decisions.

“Transformational cultural change requires leadership from the top, and we do not have time to wait,” she said at a recent Pentagon Pride event.

Since January of this year, more than 400 anti-LGBTQ+ laws have been introduced at the state level.

“That number is rising and demonstrates a trend that could be dangerous for service members, their families, and the readiness of the force as a whole.”

Former Space Force Lt. Col. Matthew Lohmeier was removed from his command in 2021 for expressing opposition to Marxist-rooted critical race theory (CRT). He told The Epoch Times that there’s no place in the U.S. military for the kind of advocacy that Burt participates in.

“Americans should know that when someone signs up to wear the uniform of their country, they’re trained early on to leave political baggage at the door and to be rather apolitical while acting in an official capacity.”

VP Kamala Harris to Teen Girls: ‘Counting on You’ to Push Abortion Agenda Forward

Vice President Kamala Harris charged up-and-coming young voters with pushing Democrats’ abortion-on-demand agenda in an exclusive interview with Teen Vogue.

The outlet reported that Harris gave an exclusive interview on the Dobbs anniversary because she “want[s] the readers of Teen Vogue to know that [they] are leaders.” Harris spoke with the outlet via phone after giving a Dobbs anniversary speech in North Carolina on Saturday, where she bemoaned the end of Roe v. Wade and called pro-life Republicans “extremists.”

Foreign nationals overstaying their visas, and thus becoming illegal aliens, has reportedly hit a “record number” under President Joe Biden’s watch, new Department of Homeland Security (DHS) data suggests.

Biden’s DHS released its annual visa overstay report for Fiscal Year 2022, revealing that nearly 854,000 foreign nationals overstayed their visas from October 2021 through September 2022 — more than 795,000 of which remain illegal aliens in the United States, while close to 59,000 left the U.S. only after their visas expired.

Leftists Stage Cyberattack on Fort Worth, Texas, over Restrictions on Child Transing Procedures

The City of Fort Worth, Texas, suffered a cyberattack in which internal systems were compromised, and a leftist organization called SiegedSec has reportedly taken credit. The leftist hacker group has previously attacked the government systems of pro-life states, and has now reportedly targeted Fort Worth over strong Texas laws preventing the mutilation of children in the name of “gender-affirming care.”

WFAA reports that internal systems of the City of Fort Worth, Texas were reportedly compromised in response to Texas state laws restricting child sex-change practices. Hackers broke into the city’s computer systems on June 23 and stole data, though it was not considered sensitive.

Andrew Warren waited too long to seek relief from state, Florida Supreme Court says

Former Hillsborough County State Attorney Andrew Warren waited too long to ask the Florida Supreme Court to reinstate him, most of the high court justices said Thursday.

In a 6-1 decision, the court’s majority dismissed Warren’s petition to get his job back, with Justice Charles Canady noting that “the time for our review has passed.”

DeSantis suspended Warren in August 2022, citing “neglect of duty” and “incompetence.”

Nolte: Crime Surges in Left-Wing Fairfax County, Cops Get Beanbag Shotguns

Fairfax County, Virginia, an elite, left-wing enclave right outside Washington, DC, is dealing with a crime surge, and now police officers will be shooting beanbags instead of shotgun shells.

According to Wikipedia, Fairfax County “has the third-highest median household income of any county-level local jurisdiction in the U.S.” and went nearly 70 percent for His Fraudulency Joe Biden in 2020. In other words, this is a county run by Democrats without serious opposition from Republicans.

The result? Between 2021 and 2022, crimes against persons increased by ten percent, and crimes against property jumped by 19 percent.

Newman Castillo Delgado, a 20-year-old migrant who recently arrived in Chicago, was arrested and charged, according to CWB Chicago, with felony retail theft after he allegedly attempted to steal about $3,100 of Ralph Lauren products from a Macy’s along with three others.

One of the others who allegedly joined Delgado in the shoplifting scheme ran off as security guards arrived on the scene. One of the men with Delgado was allegedly attempting to steal $1,650 worth of Ralph Lauren merchandise.

Supreme Court Dismisses Lawsuit Over Trump’s Former DC Hotel

The U.S. Supreme Court on June 26 dismissed an appeal over a long-running dispute between former President Donald Trump and congressional Democrats over the former Trump International Hotel in the nation’s capital.

The dispute focused on documents related to the lease of the government property in downtown Washington that housed the hotel. Democrats claimed that Trump received a sweetheart deal and demanded documentation from the government, which refused their request.

Trump left the presidency in January 2021, and The Trump Organization sold the lease to the property in May 2022 to CGI Merchant Group for an undisclosed sum. The hotel is now known as the Waldorf Astoria Washington D.C. and is part of Hilton Worldwide.

If the case had been heard and Democrats had prevailed, the minority party in Congress would have gained a great deal more power going forward to investigate a president’s administration of the opposite party, even if the minority party lacked the committee votes required to issue a subpoena

Bud Light Will Permanently Lose Nearly a Fourth of Its Business: Analysts

Some of Bud Light’s problems in the wake of a boycott over its partnership with Dylan Mulvaney could be permanent, according to an analyst in a new note about the beleaguered brand.

“We believe recent underperformance implies a permanent reduction in ABI’s U.S. business,” Deutsche Bank analyst Mitch Collett wrote for Barron’s, referring to Anheuser-Busch InBev, the parent company of Bud Light. “Our proprietary survey data suggests these headwinds are likely to fade even if we do not expect the U.S. business ever to fully recover from its current challenges.”

Collett also upgraded shares of AB InBev to “buy” from “hold,” increasing the price target to $65.92 from $64.83, according to Barron’s.

In a note to analysts, Collett wrote that data gathered by Deutsche Bank suggest that 24 percent of Bud Light’s consumers no longer purchase the brand. Another 18 percent are buying less, he said.

Data also show that 21 percent of consumers are buying more, while 37 percent are buying the same amount, according to the report.

“Taken together, our survey data shows that Bud Light as a brand faces significant challenges—particularly with older consumers. However, we believe the forward-looking data sets imply that the challenges will at least partially fade,” he wrote, noting that data show the firm hasn’t lost shelf presence.

Troy Aikman Knocks Beer Brands Trying to ‘Cash In’ on Independence Day by ‘Slapping an American Flag on Their Packages’

NFL Hall of Famer Troy Aikman knocked beer brands capitalizing off the Fourth of July by simply “slapping an American flag on their packages.”

In a video posted to Instagram on Monday, the current ESPN commenter touted his own beer company, EIGHT, and took shots at other beer brands that feign American authenticity.

“At EIGHT, we believe in truth and authenticity. Our company is proudly based right here in Texas and all of our beer is brewed right here in the good ‘ol USA. So, I’ve gotta call it like it is,” he said. “There are a lot of beer brands out there that are trying to cash in on this holiday by slapping an American flag on their package.”

“Regardless of whether or not they are truly American. So this July 4th, drink American – whether it’s EIGHT beer or any other American-owned beer brand. And on behalf of all of us out here, we appreciate your support. Cheers,” he concluded.

Is The Next Wuhan Biolab At Colorado State University In Fort Collins?

When I wrote The Evil Twins of Technocracy and Transhumanism, some objected that the cover picture was too evil looking. Let me assure you that the evilness of true evil is just getting started, as evidenced by this shocking story about yet another gain-of-function biolab is being constructed in the West. There is much more to this story, to be revealed in coming days and weeks.

Plan to Build NIH-Funded Bat Research Lab in Colorado Sparks Fears of Lab Leak

Colorado State University in Fort Collins is totally stonewalling public protest over its new NIH-funded biolab and bat research facility to be completed by the end of summer 2023. CSU’s horrible track record of lab leaks in the past should be sufficient to ban it from ever conducting or being involved with gain-of-function research.

Australia considers fining social media companies for fake news

Australian officials are set to introduce legislation that would implement fines for social media companies that fail to remove disinformation and misinformation from their platforms.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported on Sunday that the parliament’s Communications Minister Michelle Rowland plans to release the draft legislation, giving the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) new powers to hold digital platforms accountable for spreading fake news.

According to the proposed legislation, the AMCA would be able to impose a new “code” on specific companies that repeatedly fail to combat the spread of false information and fake news on their platforms.

The maximum penalty for systemic breaches of a registered code would be $2.75 million and the maximum penalty for breaching an industry standard would be $6.88 million, according to the Herald.

The proposed legislation would also let AMCA be allowed to obtain information and documents from digital platforms relating to misinformation and disinformation on their services, though the government says the authority may not have a role in determining what’s true or false.

White House announces $40B in funding to boost internet connectivity nationwide

President Biden on Monday announced roughly $40 billion in funding to be allocated across the country in an effort to bring areas without internet access online in the coming years.

The White House billed the announcement as the kickoff of a three-week “investing in America” blitz, in which Biden and other officials will highlight how money from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and other legislation passed under Biden are boosting infrastructure around the country.

“Just like Franklin Delano Roosevelt delivered electricity to every home in America through his Rural Electrification Act, the announcement is part of President Biden’s broader effort to deliver investments, jobs, and opportunities directly to working and middle-class families across the country,” a White House official said.

Roughly 8.5 million locations across the country currently are not connected to the internet, the White House said.

Vice President Harris on Monday said 24 million people in

the U.S. do not have access to high-speed internet either because they can’t afford it or because they live in communities without a fiber optic connection.

Funding for the ambitious connectivity plan will mainly come from the Broadband Equity Access and Deployment (BEAD) Program.

“With this funding, along with other federal investments, we’re going to be able to connect every person in America to reliable, high-speed internet by 2030,” Biden said in remarks from the White House on Monday.

NYC Tells Coal, Wood Oven Pizzerias to Cut Carbon Emissions by 75%

New York City has told pizzerias that use coal or wood-burning ovens to slice their carbon emissions by 75 percent or else face hefty fines.

Ted Timbers, spokesman for the New York City Department of Environmental Protection, confirmed the new rules on Sunday.

“All New Yorkers deserve to breathe healthy air and wood and coal-fired stoves are among the largest contributors of harmful pollutants in neighborhoods with poor air quality,” Timbers said in a statement. “This common-sense rule, developed with restaurant and environmental justice groups, requires a professional review of whether installing emission controls is feasible.”

How to Attract Beneficial Insects and Repel Pests Through Garden Design

Most of us have this idea of how gardens are supposed to look.

Everything needs to be kept in boundaries, arranged in rows, and kept free of dead plants, sticks, debris piles, etc.

Yet keeping things neat is great in the kitchen, at the office, or in the workshop—but it isn’t helping your garden. Sure, it might look nice and utilitarian, but functionality usually goes deeper than surface appearances.

Nature is a mess—a raucous, deliberate, incredible, outrageous mess. If you let some of that mess into your garden, your plants will benefit.

How to Identify Atrial Fibrillation and What Might Help

Atrial fibrillation (Afib) is an abnormal, often rapid, heart rhythm that can lead to serious complications, including stroke and heart failure

Symptoms of Afib include lightheadedness, dizziness, fatigue, chest pain and a feeling that your heart is fluttering or pounding; sometimes Afib causes no symptoms

Obesity, sedentary lifestyle, poor sleep and stress may increase your risk of Afib

Lumbrokinase, a complex fibrinolytic enzyme extracted from earthworms, naturally thins the blood, which is useful for Afib patients, who are at increased risk of blood clots

Oxidative stress and increased reactive oxygen species (ROS) can play a role in the development of Afib; ubiquinol and CoQ10 supplements help reduce oxidative stress

PSA: This Anti-Inflammatory Spice Could Soothe Arthritis Symptoms, Study Finds

Turmeric is a delicious spice that has been used for centuries in traditional medicine to treat a wide range of ailments, and research has begun to uncover its potential benefits for bone and joint health. A recently published review of curcuma, the active ingredient in turmeric, set out to document some of the most compelling research on how it may affect bone and joint health, especially pertaining to the treatment of osteoarthritis (OA).

Could turmeric soothe osteoarthritis?

Scientists certainly seem to think so. A recent review of studies1 published in the National Library of Medicine found that curcuma helps reduce inflammation and may be particularly useful for treating the symptoms of osteoarthritis. The authors of the review found that the most commonly researched dose of curcumin (around 1,000–2,000 mg daily) has strong antioxidative and anti-inflammatory effects.

The authors also noted that because curcumin is quite safe in high doses, it’s a more promising treatment option than other inflammation- and pain-management pharmaceuticals, which often come with a host of unwanted side effects.

CHD Moves Congress to Act on Unvaxxed NYC Teacher Problem Codes

This is fantastic news! A clear step in the right direction.

Congress has written a formal letter asking NYC DOE to explain why they placed “Problem Codes” on educators for being unvaccinated. You can download the original letter at the end of this post in .pdf format.

Special thanks to Rep. Nick Langworthy for spearheading this effort! And thank you to Langworthy’s legislative director Will Smith for putting in the legwork to make this happen. I’ve been in touch with Smith for over 3 months about this issue and know first hand he has put a ton of work into making this happen.

This is only happening because Mary Holland sent a letter to the entire New York Congressional Delegation 3 months ago (as then-acting President and General Counsel for Children’s Health Defense) asking for an investigation into NYC Problem Codes that were used as a “Scarlet Letter” for unvaccinated educators, preventing many from obtaining other employment.

I also want to thank Reps. Nick LaLota, Mike Lawler, Anthony D’Esposito, Elise Stefanik, Claudia Tenney, Andrew Garbarino, Marcus Molinaro and Brandon Williams. Special thanks to Rep. Lawler for tweeting out the Daily Caller article which broke the story

Now we need to see what NYC’s response is going to be, and whether or not this is going to spark Congressional Hearings.

Harvard Scholar’s Study on Honesty Retracted After She Is Accused of Faking It

A Harvard scholar who studies honesty has been accused of fabricating her findings on a research paper on the subject that has been highly cited by behavioral scientists. Harvard has placed Francesca Gina on administrative leave after her famous paper was retracted, a highly ironic position for an honesty expert to find herself in.

A famous study by Francesca Gino of Harvard Business School about a clever way to prompt honest behavior was retracted because it had relied on fraudulent data, according to a report by the Chronicle of Higher Education. The fraudulent study, which was published in 2012, has reportedly been cited hundreds of time by scholars.

While details about the falsifications remain unclear, Harvard has recently placed Gino, a world-renowned professor who studies dishonesty, on administrative leave after discovering that the study contains even more fraudulent data than what was previously revealed in 2021.

School Principal Quits Job to Homeschool Her 3 Kids on a 10-Acre Homestead: ‘I Wanted to Raise Thinkers’

A former school principal who grew frustrated with the school system quit her job and instead chose to homeschool her three kids on a 10-acre (4.05-hectare) homestead. Merging her children’s learning with their land and home, she has created an immersive “real world” educational experience based on her kids’ unique needs.

Mandy Davis, 37, lives in Central Oregon with her husband, Josh, 38, and their children Emma, 11, Clara, 9, and Cruz, 1. For Mandy, who was adopted from Seoul, South Korea, and who later grew up in Nebraska, her own public school experience was “not all roses.” Neither was Texas native Josh’s since he moved often as a child and suffered from huge learning gaps as he moved between state education systems.

Big City Investor Flees to Texas Plot to Restart ‘Biblical’ Life, Grow Own Food, Homeschool—Here’s How

He was a young, successful investor and family man who had it all. Although he owned property investments, was able to pay $350,000 in cash for a huge house, and lived an affluent lifestyle, Joe Wilder, a religious man, saw the “shenanigans” in his workplace and became disenchanted with the whole deal.

He conceded he had gotten “sucked in” by ego. Now he wanted out. He wanted his family out. It would be a hard, Biblical restart for all their lives, but the northeastern United States family pulled up, moved to Texas despite knowing no one, and found freedom on a small, unfinished plot.

Nearly ten years on, Joe and his wife, Faith, have six kids and a farm that feeds them wholesome, unprocessed food where their kids don’t get spoiled, because they have to work, and are homeschooled as biblical Christians. It’s the lifestyle Joe had wanted for them—one he believes aligns more closely with God’s word.

Their paradigm shift is one society at large might learn from, as the family of eight—having become content creators—share their agrarian exploits on YouTube, teaching the truth about how things are, and how they might be. You needn’t live in the rat race like you were taught!
