Populist-Left Slovakia Election Winners Deny ‘Pro-Russian’ Claims in Establishment Media

We’re not pro-Putin, we’re just anti-war, claims incoming Slovak government as left-wing-populist Robert Fico wins national elections on a promise to suspend deliveries of military aid to Ukraine.

Robert Fico, the anti-mass-migration, anti-coronavirus lockdown two-time Prime Minister of Slovakia won the national elections at the weekend at the head of his left-wing party and will soon attempt to form a coalition government, returning to power again on a populist platform vowing to disentangle the nation from the war in Ukraine, which borders Slovakia to the east. Media reports have called this a propaganda coup for Putin by the “pro-Russian” Fico.

Indian Foreign Minister Accuses Canada of Fostering ‘Climate of Violence’ Against Indians

Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on Friday denounced the “climate of violence” and “atmosphere of intimidation” against Indian diplomats in Canada, which he said was created by Canada’s indulgence of Sikh separatists, such as Hardeep Singh Nijar, whom Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau recently accused the Indian government of murdering.

“Because there is freedom of speech, to make threats and intimidate diplomats, I don’t think that’s acceptable,” Jaishankar said.

Is the reason Bill Clinton is “breaking ranks” because he’s a NIMBY and now all of this is “in this face”?

Bill Clinton Breaks With Democrats, Makes Concession on Illegal Immigrant Surge

Former President Bill Clinton conceded a change is needed to New York’s “right to shelter” law as top state officials have sounded the alarm about illegal immigrants arriving in New York City in recent months.

“It’s broken. We need to fix it … it doesn’t make any sense,” the former president told host John Catsimatidis on WABC radio’s Cats Roundtable show on Sunday.

He added: “They come here, and we’re supposed to shelter people who can’t get work permits for six months. We need to change that. They ought to work. They need to begin working, paying taxes, and paying their way. Most of these people have no interest in being on welfare.”

Even New York Gov. Hochul is now seeing what the real truth of being a NIMBY is all about!

US Border ‘Too Open Right Now,’ Warns New York’s Hochul

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul has made fresh comments on the current immigration crisis facing New York City, warning Congress that the “country’s border is too open right now,” and calling for limits “who can come across the border.”

In an interview on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” she remarked that the country’s border is currently too much of a free-for-all. She said that people from all over the world are being allowed into the country for “simply saying they need asylum” and ending up the streets of New York City.

The comment comes on the back of New York’s ongoing struggle with an unprecedented influx of illegal immigrants. According to New York City officials, over 110,000 illegal immigrants have come to the city over the past year, with around 60,000 living in the city’s shelter system, costing billions of dollars per year.

In the CBS interview, Ms. Hochul said the number is now closer to the tune of 125,000.

“We are always so proud of the fact that we have the Statue Liberty in our harbor,” she said. “We are one of the most diverse places on Earth because of our welcoming nature; it’s in our DNA to welcome immigrants.

“But there has to be some limits in place. Congress has to put some more controls at the border and not in this budget threat, shut down threat talk about eliminating positions from Border Patrol where we actually need to double our quadruple of those numbers.

New York isn’t the only place affected by immigrant surges!

Exclusive: Biden Admin Moves 2K Migrants from Packed Border Facility to Release Elsewhere in Texas

The Biden administration is in the process of moving 2,000 migrants from an overcrowded Border Patrol processing facility in Eagle Pass, Texas, according to a CBP source. The mass transfer of detainees began early Monday and is aimed to alleviate the strain on Border Patrol facilities and a non-government shelter overwhelmed by the influx of more than 1,000 migrants into Eagle Pass daily.

As reported by Breitbart Texas, the sudden surge of migrants began two weeks prior as more than 1,500 migrants crossed the Rio Grande within six hours. The migrants traveled to the border area from southern and central Mexico by freight train. Within days, single groups of mostly Venezuelan migrants numbering more nearly 3,000 strong arrived almost daily in the same manner.

Although the pace of the entries has slowed in recent days to, at times, 1,000 to 1,500 migrants daily, the surge has brought detention numbers to record levels. At the height of the current migrant surge on Thursday, more than 20,000 migrants were being detained by the Border Patrol nationwide, according to the CBP source. The soft-sided processing facility in Eagle Pass, commonly referred to by Border Patrol agents as “Firefly,” is meant to accommodate 1,000 migrant detainees. It has been holding roughly 5,000 migrants of late.

US Supreme Court’s Term Starts Monday: What You Need to Know\

The U.S. Supreme Court’s next term is scheduled to start Monday, and a number of significant cases await—including some that could threaten federal regulatory agencies as well as efforts targeting content on social media platforms.

Second Amendment

The court agreed to take up U.S. v. Rahimi, a case that could determine whether a federal law banning people from possessing firearms while under a domestic violence-related restraining order violates the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

Social Media Cases

Last week, the Supreme Court agreed to decide the legality of Republican-backed state laws in Texas and Florida that constrain the ability of social media companies to curb content on their platforms that these businesses deem objectionable.

Federal Regulatory Agencies

One case challenges the funding for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and if the top court rules against the government, some analysts have said it could limit the power of other independent federal agencies such as the Federal Service.

Election Cases

Earlier this year, the Supreme Court agreed to take up another U.S. House redistricting case, this time in South Carolina. A lower court ruled that the state must redraw its congressional map because a district was intentionally redrawn to reduce the number of Democratic-leaning black voters.

Trump Cases

Even larger election issues could be coming to the court soon as a multitude of federal judges have weighed a handful of appeals related to the indictments of former President Donald Trump in federal courts in Washington and Florida as well as state courts in New York and Georgia. It’s not clear if the court will ever be asked to issue a decision on the cases.

Black Democrats Furious at Newsom for Not Picking Barbara Lee

Several leading black Democrats are criticizing California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) for nominating Laphonza Butler of Maryland to fill Dianne Feinstein’s Senate vacancy instead of current Senate candidate Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA).

Butler has lived in California, and owns a home in the state, but lives in Maryland and must register to vote in the Golden State before becoming constitutionally eligible to replace Feinstein, who died Friday at the age of 90.

Lee has been running to replace Feinstein, whose retirement was announced earlier this year. Butler may be able to run for the post as well, once she has taken office, angering Lee’s backers.

ECONOMY & BUSINESS

Now you can’t get a non-smoking king for an overnight stay without being hacked … Credit card thieves target Booking.com customers

Staff in the hospitality industry are trained to accommodate their guests, and when they have a few years of experience under their belt you can be sure they’ll have received some extraordinary requests.

Which is something that clever cybercriminals are taking advantage of. Researchers at Perception Point recently documented a sophisticated phishing campaign targeting hotels and travel agencies.

The campaign raised alarm because of the clever scheme deployed to trick staff into installing an information stealer. This part of the campaign is made up out of highly targeted attacks.

The first stage of the attack typically sees the attackers send a query about a booking or make a reservation. The bookings will always have low or no cancellation costs so the attackers can minimize their investment.

Once the attackers receive a response, they’ll come up with a persuasive reason for the hotel staff to print or study something ahead of their arrival. Examples include medical records for a child or an important map they would like to print out for their elderly parents.

To add a touch of legitimacy and to evade detection, they even provide the hotel representative with a password to unlock these so-called “important files.”

Donald Trump: ‘Businesses Are Fleeing New York’ Because of Attorney General Letitia James

Former President Donald Trump addressed reporters on the first day of New York Attorney General Letitia James’ civil fraud case against him and said “businesses are fleeing New York” because of James, and “anybody that does business” in the state is “crazy.”

Trump appeared in court Monday for the first day of James’ civil fraud trial against him. The former president gathered reporters and criticized the court’s proceedings, Judge Arthur Engoron, and James.

Trump claimed that businesses are leaving New York due to James and said, “anybody that does business in New York State is crazy.”

He said:

And you ought to go after this attorney general because she’s turning off everybody from coming in. You know, I don’t know if you take a look at the outflow of business. Businesses are fleeing New York because of horrible, horrible attorney generals and judges like we have.

“Anybody that does business in New York State is crazy,” Trump declared.

Trial of former cryptocurrency star Sam Bankman-Fried to start in Manhattan

A federal court in Manhattan will start hearing the case against erstwhile crypto star Sam Bankman-Fried, with jury selection beginning on Tuesday.

Bankman-Fried, who founded cryptocurrency exchange FTX and associated hedge fund Alameda Research, is facing trial on finance crimes stemming from the shocking collapse of FTX.

Bankman-Fried faces seven conspiracy and fraud counts for allegedly siphoning investors’ money into risky trades and other unlawful purposes.

The Manhattan US attorney’s office, which is pursuing the case, has also accused Bankman-Fried of using FTX customer funds to foot the bill for swelling loan expenses at Alameda. Authorities have also contended that he snapped up fancy real estate and made extensive political donations with their money.

CDC to Propose ‘Morning-After’ Antibiotic for STDs

U.S. health officials plan to endorse a common antibiotic as a morning-after pill that gay and bisexual men can use to try to avoid some increasingly common sexually transmitted diseases.

The proposed CDC guideline was released Monday, and officials will move to finalize it after a 45-day public comment period. With STD rates rising to record levels, “more tools are desperately needed,” said Dr. Jonathan Mermin of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The proposal comes after studies found some people who took the antibiotic doxycycline within three days of unprotected sex were far less likely to get chlamydia, syphilis or gonorrhea compared with people who did not take the pills after sex.

Up to 40% of Consumer DNA Tests Are Inaccurate

Sales of direct-to-consumer DNA testing kits rose sharply in 2017, driven in part by large advertising budgets and a growing interest in discovering ancestral lineage

Although only one company is approved to share information about medical risk for some health conditions, nearly all companies share the raw data; research finds nearly 40% of medical data from these tests may be false positives

Clinical confirmation is vital before undergoing further tests or treatments based on DNA testing from at-home test kits as these tests were never intended for medical use

Your DNA contains profoundly personal information about your health, personality and family history, which may be used to discriminate against you in the workplace, affect your ability to acquire health insurance and is often sold to research companies

What does a car need to know about your sex life? Lock and Code S04E20

Kia says it can collect information about a consumer’s “sex life.” Subaru passengers allegedly consent to the collection of their data by simply being in the vehicle. Volkswagen says it collects data like a person’s age and gender and whether they’re using your seatbelt, and it can use that information for targeted marketing purposes.

But those are just some of the highlights from the Privacy Not Included team. Explains Zoë MacDonald, content creator for the research team:

“We were pretty surprised by the data points that the car companies say they can collect… including social security number, information about your religion, your marital status, genetic information, disability status… immigration status, race. And of course, as you said.. one of the most surprising ones for a lot of people who read our research is the sexual activity data.”

Green Energy Stocks Rocked by High Interest Rates

Green energy stocks have dropped significantly in the last few months, underperforming compared to oil and gas companies, as high interest takes its toll.

The S&P Global Clean Energy Index, which comprises 100 of the biggest companies in green energy, has dropped over 20 percent in the last two months, Financial Times reported Monday. In contrast, the oil and gas-rich S&P 500 Energy Index has grown by six percent.

Venezuela, Syria, Iran Team Up to Jointly Build Oil Refinery

The rogue governments of Iran, Syria, and Venezuela have signed an agreement to build an oil refinery in the former rebel stronghold of Homs, Syria, Iran’s Tasnim News Agency reported on Sunday.

Tasnim, which is favorable to Iran’s Islamic theocracy, claimed that the proposed oil refinery would process 140,000 barrels per day (bpd) once completed, issuing a significant boost to production under Syrian dictator Bashar Assad. Iranian officials claimed that “studies” indicate the Homs area has unmet fuel demands that require such a project. Reports did not indicate whether the oil refined at this proposed facility would be domestic or come from either Iran or Venezuela.

List of Appliances the Energy Department Plans to Target Within the Next 12 Months

The Biden administration’s energy department has plans to regulate a wide range of appliances used by Americans under the agency’s evolving “energy conservation standards.”

According to the semiannual Unified Agenda, a list prepared by federal agencies detailing the regulations they plan to undertake within the next 12 months, the Department of Energy (DOE) will be pushing ahead with proposals to regulate several more appliances in the United States.

Just a few days back, the DOE announced new energy efficiency standards for residential gas furnaces—the latest in a wave of restrictions, which had earlier covered pool pumps, battery chargers, ceiling fans, dehumidifiers, gas stoves, and incandescent light bulbs, among others.

Judge Orders New York To Pay $447K in NRA’s Legal Fees From Bruen Fight

In the latest fallout from the New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen decision, a New York judge has ordered the State of New York to compensate the National Rifle Association (NRA) almost half a million in legal fees.

In a case decided last summer, the Supreme Court ruled that a New York public carry licensing law was unconstitutional and that the ability to carry a pistol in public was a constitutional right guaranteed by the Second Amendment.

The NRA was a party in that case, New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen, and last week a New York judge ordered the state to pay $447,700.82 in legal fees.

“The NRA regards the $447K award in the NYSRPA V. Bruen case as a pivotal victory, a symbol that justice is definitively on our side,” Michael Jean, NRA’s director of the Office of Litigation Counsel, told Fox News Digital in a statement.

Purring, parasites and pure love: what exactly makes someone a cat person?

Devoted to cats, but not entirely sure why? Here are the qualities in felines – and in you – that help explain it

My moggy Larry is the very best of cats. Affectionate, loyal, endlessly patient – even when my baby son whacks him with a hairbrush, or yanks his tail, he never swipes. Sometimes, when my son is crying in his cot, Larry reaches a paw through the bars, to comfort him. Beautiful, of course. Clever green eyes, and a pink button nose. I think of him as a sort of honoured house guest. He really is the very best of cats.

The two kings of the pet world, dogs and cats, inspire desperate tribalism from their respective camps. In the cat arbour: Albert Einstein, Abraham Lincoln and Florence Nightingale. But what is it about cats that makes someone a cat person? And what can our love for these animals teach us about ourselves?
