3.FDA RECALL WARNING:

FDA Notice: Ice Cream Products Recalled Over Bacterial Contamination

An ice cream company confirmed it is recalling ice cream products due to a possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

An ice cream company confirmed it is recalling ice cream products due to a possible Listeria monocytogenes bacterial contamination, according to a notice posted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Life Raft Treats said it expanded a recall of its Not Fried Chicken 64-ounce bucket, Not Friday Chicken 2.5-ounce bar, and Life Is Peachy six-pound box ice cream products. The expiration dates for the products go up to Aug. 8, 2024, the notice said.

On Sept. 18, the company was notified by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control that an additional lot of one of the products tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes, which can cause a potentially deadly bacterial infection. The company then recalled additional lots of its products, according to the notice.

So far, no illnesses associated with the recalled items have been reported.

Trump found liable?

4.Donald Trump found liable for fraud in New York civil case

A New York judge ruled that Donald Trump and his family company inflated the value of Trump Organization properties over the years, including Mar-a-Lago, to get better deals from banks and insurance companies. It’s a win for New York Attorney General Letitia James, who is seeking a $250 million penalty in her civil suit against the ex-president, because it determines before they head to trial that Trump is liable for fraud. Before this ruling came down, Trump already had a lawsuit pending to get the judge thrown off the case, but if that fails, a trial is scheduled to begin next Monday.

5.Five key takeaways from Donald Trump’s financial fraud case ruling

A New York judge ruled Tuesday that Donald Trump committed financial fraud by overstating the value of his assets to broker deals and obtain financing.

  1. A big win for Letitia James

Though the trial is technically not over, the ruling is a huge win for the New York attorney general, who started her investigation into the Trump Organization in 2019.

  1. A bench trial will still take place, but it will be shorter

Engoron initially scheduled the trial to go from 2 October to 22 December. But his judgement on Tuesday will dramatically shorten the trial since he already ruled in agreement with James’ main case against Trump: that he and his allies wrote up “false and misleading” financial statements and that they used these doctored financial statements to conduct business transactions.

  1. Doing business in New York will be difficult for Trump, and his company could still face a $250m fine

Engoron ruled that the New York business certificates of the Trump Organization and other Trump subsidiaries listed in the suit will be cancelled. Certificates of companies owned by the named defendants, including Trump and his two sons, Donald Trump Jr and Eric Trump, will also be cancelled.

  1. Trump is a real estate ‘genius’ only in a ‘fantasy world’

In pre-trial hearings before the ruling, Trump lawyer Christopher Kise told the judge that the former president is “an investment genius” and “probably one of the most successful real estate developers in the country”.

“President Trump is a master at finding value where others see nothing,” Kise told Engoron.

  1. The ruling is just another legal woe that is teed up for Trump

Trump has been actively campaigning for the 2024 presidential election and is leading the polls among his peers in the Republican primaries. But his campaign may be interrupted by more trials set to take place next year in New York, Washington DC and Florida.

German police carry out sweeping raids as neo-Nazi group banned

Police have carried out raids across Germany as ministers announced a ban on a far-right group described as a “cult-like, deeply racist and antisemitic association” that sought to indoctrinate children with Nazi ideology.

Officers stormed 26 apartments belonging to 39 members of the Artgemeinschaft network in 12 states including Bavaria, Baden-Wüerttemberg and Brandenburg.

The association has about 150 members and has links to several far-right groups, said the interior ministry.

UK Home Secretary Calls for Overhaul of ‘Absurd’ International Immigration Rules Facilitating Migrant Crisis

Home Secretary Suella Braverman called for radical reforms to the “absurd” international regulations surrounding asylum seekers, arguing that it has become a promise that the “West cannot fulfil”.

Speaking before the American Enterprise Institute think tank on Tuesday morning in Washington D.C., Braverman — a child of immigrants herself — argued that both the United States and the United Kingdom are falling victim to radical modern interpretations of the 1951 Refugee Convention established by the U.N. in the aftermath of World War II, which she said is no longer fit for the realities of the present day.

Is the U.S. government going to reinstitute the draft?  What about all of those young, fighting age male illegal immigrants?

The US Military Is Laying the Groundwork to Reinstitute the Draft

The most recent edition of the US Army War College’s academic journal includes a highly disturbing essay on what lessons the US military should take away from the continuing war in Ukraine. By far the most concerning and most relevant section for the average American citizen is a subsection entitled “Casualties, Replacements, and Reconstitutions” which, to cut right to the chase, directly states, “Large-scale combat operations troop requirements may well require a reconceptualization of the 1970s and 1980s volunteer force and a move toward partial conscription.”

Judge Orders 2 Special Hearings in Trump Documents Case

Judge Aileen Cannon, who is presiding over the case against former President Donald Trump for allegedly mishandling classified documents, has granted special counsel Jack Smith’s motions to hold Garcia hearings for two of the former president’s co-defendants.

Mar-a-Lago property manager Carlos De Oliveira and butler Waltine Nauta were charged alongside President Trump, and their legal representation is the subject of the new hearings.

A Garcia hearing, named after a 1975 case, is a proceeding to ensure that a defendant understands the conflict of interest at play when they are represented by an attorney who is also representing another defendant or witnesses in the case.

More Politicians Are Leaving the Democratic Party

When Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson announced his switch from Democrat to Republican in a Wall Street Journal op-ed, he wrote he had “no intention of changing my approach to my job” but that American cities needed the fiscal conservatism and law enforcement that Republicans push for.

And he’s not alone. This year has already seen five state lawmakers switch affiliation from Democrat to Republican. Last year, Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-Ariz.) switched from Democrat to Independent. Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) has said he’s giving serious consideration to leaving the Democratic Party, and is reportedly aiming for a third party bid in 2024 for the Oval Office. In 2022, it was reported that 1 million voters had switched to the Republican Party, compared to 630,000 who became Democrats.

House Passes Resolution Against Biden’s Attack on School Hunting Programs

On Tuesday night, the U.S. House passed a resolution against President Joe Biden’s attacks on school hunting and archery programs by a vote of 424-1.

The clerk for the U.S. House listed the one lone “nay” vote as being cast by Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-TX).

Breitbart News pointed to reports in late June indicating the Biden administration was blocking funding to schools with hunting and/or archery programs under the guise that the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) of 1965, in combination with the Bi-Partisan Safer Communities Act (BSCA), prohibited funding for schools if certain weapons are used.

More than a dozen people were arrested after multiple stores were looted around Philadelphia, police say

More than a dozen people were arrested after stores were looted when a large crowd gathered in Philadelphia’s Center City district Tuesday night, police said.

The looting began shortly after the conclusion of peaceful protests against a judge’s decision to dismiss all charges against a former Philadelphia police officer, Mark Dial, in the fatal shooting of 27-year-old Eddie Irizarry on August 14, authorities said. The city’s police commissioner said he believes the looters were “opportunists” that were not directly connected to the protests.

Mike Lindell Says MyPillow ‘Crippled’ by Major Credit Card Company

MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell said Monday that his company has been “crippled” by American Express after it allegedly cut MyPillow’s credit line by about 90 percent.

Mr. Lindell, a vocal supporter of former President Donald Trump, has long said that extensive campaign is being waged by retailers and financial institutions to cancel him and his business ventures following his claims after the 2020 election.

“We really need everybody’s help right now. We have things going on I’m going to let you all know this week,” he told Steve Bannon on his “War Room” Rumble show. “American Express, I wasn’t going to say this, we’ve been with them 15 years and we do all of our online marketing, all our shipping with them, out of the blue they took our credit line from a million dollars down to $100,000, just cripples MyPillow.”

US Government, States File Lawsuit Against Amazon for Monopolistic Practices

The U.S. government, along with 17 states, is suing e-commerce behemoth Amazon for maintaining an alleged monopoly which they claim has resulted in lower product quality and inflated prices.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), on behalf of the government, alleges that Amazon’s initiatives prevent rivals as well as sellers on its platform from lowering product prices, degrades overall quality for customers, overcharges sellers, suppresses competition, and prevents rival companies from fair competition.

By stifling competition, “Amazon ensures that no current or future rival can threaten its dominance,” said the FTC in a Sept. 26 press release. “Amazon’s far-reaching schemes impact hundreds of billions of dollars in retail sales every year, touch hundreds of thousands of products sold by businesses big and small and affect over a hundred million shoppers.”

Why You Should Never Take Antacids for Digestive Reflux

Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) inhibit acid production in your stomach and are routinely used to treat acid reflux. An estimated 15% of the U.S. population are on PPIs. Antacids like Tums neutralize acid in your stomach but don’t block production. They’re the least harmful, as their effects are temporary. Be sure to read the ingredients list, however, as many acid neutralizing medications contain aluminum hydroxide, a toxic compound that impairs your body’s zeta potential

If you regularly suffer from heartburn or acid reflux, inhibiting acid production is actually the last thing you want to do

Acid reflux occurs when contents from your stomach back up into your esophagus, causing stomach acid to irritate the lining of your esophagus. However, excess acid is not the problem. Low acid is, because the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) is pH sensitive and only closes once sufficient acidity is present in the stomach

Other causes of heartburn include hiatal hernia, medications and foods that relax the LES, foods that irritate the stomach, obesity, smoking and helicobacter pylori infection

PPIs and antacids are inadvisable as none of the potential underlying causes involves excess stomach acid. What you need is more acid. Long term use of PPIs can compromise your health, as insufficient stomach acid has been linked to asthma, GI-related issues, skin diseases, depression, gallbladder disease, migraines, macular degeneration, osteoporosis and a variety of autoimmune conditions

Feeling the Heat: Hot Flashes Are an Early Indicator for Alzheimer’s Disease

Hot flashes, especially during sleep, might indicate a higher risk of Alzheimer’s disease in women, as revealed by a study utilizing AD blood-based biomarkers. This significant correlation will be presented at the 2023 Annual Meeting of The Menopause Society.

New study suggests that hot flashes experienced during sleep may be a biomarker of women at higher risk of dementia.

As if hot flashes alone weren’t bad enough for women going through the menopause transition, a new study suggests that, especially when they occur during sleep, hot flashes may be early indicators of a woman’s increased risk for Alzheimer’s disease (AD). And, the more hot flashes, the greater the disease risk. Study results will be presented during the 2023 Annual Meeting of The Menopause Society in Philadelphia on September 27-30.

Alarming spike in ADHD medication errors: One drug’s role under scrutiny

ow’s this for a jaw-dropping statistic: research from the past decade suggests that medical error is responsible for more than a quarter million deaths in the United States each year.  This makes medical error the third leading cause of death – and that data came from before the absolute mess that was the pandemic!

But aside from death, many Americans are being temporarily or permanently harmed as a result of medical errors, as well.  Just consider the results of a new study on medications for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).  Read on to learn more about this study and learn about some signs and symptoms of ADHD, which is becoming more and more rampant among our nation’s youth.

300 percent INCREASE in poison control calls for errors related to ADHD medications over last two decades, study finds

The study in question can be found in the latest volume of Pediatrics, the journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics.  The objective of the study was to investigate the trends in out-of-hospital calls made to poison control centers for ADHD medication-related therapeutic errors among children and youths under 20 years old.

ADHD, the study co-authors note, is one of “the most common pediatric neurodevelopmental disorders and pharmacotherapy is a first-line treatment.” About 5 out of 100 American kids (3.3. million children) are currently prescribed medication for ADHD!

Using data from the National Poison Data Center and the U.S. Census Bureau, the authors found that between 2000 and 2021, the incidence of “pediatric out-of-hospital therapeutic errors related to ADHD medications increased by almost 300 percent” (emphasis ours).

The majority of those calls (about 83 percent) did not escalate to children needing treatment in a health care facility – but some kids weren’t so lucky.  The study authors noted that “2.3% [of affected individuals] were admitted, and 4.2% had a serious medical outcome.” The authors defined serious medical outcomes as moderate or major effects that were more pronounced, prolonged, or systemic than minor effects with potentially life-threatening symptoms that could result in significant disability or disfigurement.  (Fortunately, no deaths were reported.)

The authors note that most of these errors were attributable to issues such as “inadvertently took or given medication twice” or “inadvertently took or given someone else’s medication.” They also hypothesize that the overall rise in reported medication errors could be explained by the rising rates of ADHD diagnosis and subsequent rise in prescriptions for these medications.

Newly discovered deep-sea enzyme breaks down PET plastic

Plastic pollution is increasingly affecting the health of coasts and oceans. One well-known problem is plastic bottles made from polyethylene terephthalate, or PET.

A new study involving scientists from Professor Ruth Schmitz-Streit’s research group at Kiel University has shown for the first time, using microorganisms from the deep sea, that polymers such as PET are continuously degraded by an enzyme. Researchers from the University of Hamburg and the Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf played a major role in the microbiological study.

The results fundamentally expand the knowledge of PET-degrading enzymes, the underlying mechanism and the evolutionary understanding of the diversity of putative PET-degrading enzymes throughout the global ocean. The research team published the results in the journal Communications Chemistry, where they discuss both biotechnological applications and the high relevance for biogeochemical processes in the ocean and on land.

SURVEILLANCE STATE

The New Abnormal: Authoritarian Control Freaks Want to Micromanage Our Lives

Authoritarian control freaks out to micromanage our lives have become the new normal or, to be more accurate, the new abnormal when it comes to how the government relates to the citizenry.

This overbearing despotism, which pre-dates the COVID-19 hysteria, is the very definition of a Nanny State, where government representatives (those elected and appointed to work for us) adopt the authoritarian notion that the government knows best and therefore must control, regulate and dictate almost everything about the citizenry’s public, private and professional lives.

Indeed, it’s a dangerous time for anyone who still clings to the idea that freedom means the right to think for yourself and act responsibly according to your best judgment.
