During a press briefing on Nov. 7, State Department deputy spokesperson Vedant Patel said the United States does not support “any forced relocation” of Palestinian people outside of war-torn Gaza.
“Our viewpoint is that Palestinians must be at the forefront of these decisions, and Gaza is Palestinian land and it will remain Palestinian land,” Mr. Patel told reporters.

“The President has no higher priority than the safety of U.S. personnel, and he directed today’s action to make clear that the United States will defend itself, its personnel, and its interests,” Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said in a statement.

The DFC loan of $553 million for the West Container Terminal will “expand its shipping capacity, creating greater prosperity for Sri Lanka — without adding to sovereign debt — while at the same strengthening the position of our allies across the region,” said DFC Chief Executive Officer Scott Nathan.
The announcement comes as Sri Lanka is struggling to recover from a dire financial and economic crisis.

Hollywood actors are set to end a near-four-month strike after a labor union representing them agreed a “tentative deal” with movie studios, bringing to a close the longest work stoppage in its history.
The actors’ union SAG-AFTRA voted unanimously to end the 118-day strike on Wednesday following the latest round of deliberations with the Alliance of Motion Pictures and TV Producers (AMPTP). The dispute, coupled with a separate months-long writers’ strike that ended in late September, had caused major disruption to the lucrative film and television industry in the US for the past several months.
The union had been seeking various assurances for its members, including better pay and safeguards against the use of artificial intelligence (AI).
In a statement, SAG-AFTRA said the deal agreed with studios was of “extraordinary scope” and is “valued at over $1 billion.” It added that the strike would end at 12.01am US Pacific time on Thursday and that all picket lines would cease.
“We have arrived at a contract that will enable SAG-AFTRA members from every category to build sustainable careers, many thousands of performers now and into the future will benefit from this work,” the union said.

From Consumer Financial Protection Bureau – Today, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) ordered Citi to pay $25.9 million in fines and consumer redress for intentionally and illegally discriminating against credit card applicants the bank identified as Armenian American. From 2015 through 2021, Citi singled out for discrimination applicants for certain credit card products, based on their surnames, whom it suspected of being of Armenian descent. Citi supervisors conspired to hide the discrimination by instructing employees not to discuss the discriminatory practices in writing or on recorded phone lines. Citi employees also lied about the basis of denial, providing false reasons to denied applicants. Under today’s order, Citi will pay $1.4 million to harmed consumers along with a $24.5 million penalty.
“The CFPB found that Citi purposefully discriminated against applicants of Armenian descent, primarily based on the spelling of their last name,” said CFPB Director Rohit Chopra. “Citi stereotyped Armenians as prone to crime and fraud. The Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) on Wednesday said the average contract rate on a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage dropped in the week ended Nov. 3 by a quarter percentage point to 7.61%, the lowest in about a month. It was the largest weekly drop since late July 2022.

The federal government is running massive deficits, which are becoming more unsustainable as interest rates rise. Congress should dig through the budget looking for low‐value programs to cut. Any new spending for foreign crises or other priorities should be offset, and I propose some spending and revenue options below.
Some policymakers favor spending more on Internal Revenue Service (IRS) enforcement to raise added revenues. But that approach would create collateral damage on taxpayers and the economy. Tax compliance is important, but the Biden administration’s plan to more than triple IRS enforcement spending over the next decade is overkill.1
A better way to boost tax compliance is to improve IRS customer service and technologies. More importantly, Congress should simplify the code and pare back the growing thicket of tax subsidies, which encourage abuse and make IRS administration more difficult. Repealing tax subsidies can raise federal revenue while supporting economic growth.

CDC Issues Warning About Ancient Disease Increasing Across US

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Tuesday reported that there has been a significant increase in syphilis cases among newborns across the United States.
More than 3,700 babies were born with congenital syphilis in 2022—or 10 times more than a decade ago and a 32 percent increase from 2021, the CDC warned, saying it’s part of a “rapidly accelerating epidemic.” Syphilis caused 282 stillbirth and infant deaths, nearly 16 times more than the 2012 deaths, according to the agency’s report.
The federal agency wants medical providers to start syphilis treatment when a pregnant woman first tests positive, rather than waiting for confirmatory testing, and to expand access to transportation so the women can get treatment. The CDC also called for rapid tests to be made available beyond doctors’ offices and sexually transmitted disease clinics to other places.

The team uncovered skullcap’s genomic sequence, revealing clues about how it produces anticancer compounds. Study author Cathie Martin with JIC explained, “We have found that the primary metabolite has activity against cancer cells but not non-cancer cells, which is especially important for an anticancer metabolite. Now we are looking to develop synthetic methods for producing more of the lead compound.”
While the team is hoping to create synthetic versions of the compound using a host such as yeast, skullcap has a long history of medicinal use. Scutellaria barbata, known as barbed skullcap, is used in TCM cancer treatments, particularly for advanced metastatic cancers.

An industrial robot crushed a worker to death at a vegetable packaging plant in South Korea, police said Thursday, as they investigated whether the machine was unsafe or had potential defects.
Police officials in the southern county of Goseong said the man died of head and chest injuries Tuesday after he was grabbed and pressed against a conveyor belt by the machine’s robotic arms.
Police did not release his name but said the man was an employee of a company that installs industrial robots and was sent to the plant to examine whether the machine was working properly.
The machine was one of two pick-and-place robots used at the facility that packages bell peppers and other vegetables exported to other Asian countries, police said. Such machines are common in South Korea’s agricultural communities.

The U.S. government, under Joe Biden, has handed out some $4.1 billion in taxpayer money to promote the LGBT ideology and lifestyle choices around the globe in just three fiscal years, according to a new report.
The Epoch Times said its investigation of federal spending, mostly under Joe Biden, revealed that the U.S. as awarded more than 1,100 grants “to fund LGBT-promoting projects round the world.”

‘Absolutely Amazing’: High School Student Donates 7,000lb of Fresh Produce From Her Own Garden
From The Epoch Times – A teenager from Iowa on a mission to help feed those in need has donated a mountain of fresh produce to community groups.
Over a period of less than two years, Lauren Schroeder—who is still in junior high—delivered 7,000 pounds of top-quality organic vegetables to various nonprofits around her neighborhood in Eastern Iowa. That’s the equivalent weight of seven cows, seven grand pianos, or a full-size pick-up truck.
The juicy red tomatoes, plump pumpkins, flavorful potatoes, brightly-colored peppers, as well as all manner of organic green vegetables and herbs are all lovingly grown by Lauren herself. It was during the pandemic, living out in the country near Dixon, that she had the spark of an idea. While helping to pack food boxes at a community pantry, the enterprising teen noticed there was no fresh produce.

There’s an extraordinary auction coming up featuring 56 Porsches all painted white, and all from the same owner.
The aptly named “The White Collection” being offered by RM Sotheby’s boasts a total of 63 vehicles, including 56 Porsche sports cars and two Porsche tractors.
The auction will take place over two days in Houston, Texas, on Dec. 1 and 2, 2023, in a warehouse-style venue that according to RM Sotheby’s can “only be described as a Porsche sanctuary.”
The auctioneers further explain that the vehicles represent “over a decade of dedicated collecting by one perfection-focused owner.”
The owner’s identity is being kept anonymous.
